Tap: 432

Taps: 1. Total: 432

No techs. Just line drill, down the line, 3 min for about 6 or 7 rounds. Awesome. Love these classes. Just sweatin' buckets. Good workout, which means I was not happy that I was using so much Muscle, Muscle, Muscle and Strength and Strength. I could feel the lactic buildup in my body and my grips were shot from holding on so much.

Rolling misc:

  • Got to N/S choke again from Side a couple of times. Couldn't finish.
  • Lapel Punch escape from Kesa worked. Hurray.
  • Got an ugly, ugly Hip bump sweep.
  • Couldn't pull off Kimura sweep from Guard or Half Guard.
  • Brown Vince -- he just lets me into Half Guard, then he goes Deep Half and Sweep. Every single time. Maybe I need to go Reverse Half before he goes Deep?
  • Tried an ugly, sloppy Armbar from Mount. His arm slipped out. Lazy. Should have went for the far arm.
  • Got a sweep off a Iron Hook/Monkey Guard set up. Total fluke that I was only half a step ahead of the White belt, but still it's the first time I was able to string together more than 2 moves.
Details:

  1. 1. I'm in Guard and get the overhook and collar grip and I'm thinking I should shrimp out and get space to arm bar him, but he's keeping me close. (I realized now I needed to push his head with my free head to make space for the shrimp).
  2. With my free hand, I fake the choke and he brings his other hand to defend, which I grab and get across my centerline. He pulls back but I use technique -- my hip up and away as I get his arm on the other side.
  3. I hip out and get control of that arm by wrapping it over his head and I get the Flower Sweep.

Taps: 431

Taps: 3. Total: 431.

Tech. - Closed Guard Attack.
1. Closed to Open Guard, Frankl hook, then free leg shoots through and I spin around into an Omoplata.

Tech. 2 - if he rolls out of the Omo, then sit on his chest, spin and come down on other side for the Omo again.

Tech. 3 - Loop choke from Seated Guard.

Tired. Sick and tired of getting smashed under Side Control and Kesa. I am really going to focus on the escapes.

1000 rep drill just for the first movement of the Side Control Esc -- block near hip or prevent crossface; other hand on his shoulder and forearm under his neck, then bridge hard to create space for my knee to shoot in. 500 each side.

1000 rep drill -- Kesa ESC - bridge into him then roll the other way.

1000 rep drill - Kesa ESC - collar frame then shrimp away, away.

Also getting smashed under Half Guard, although managed to get Deep Half then a sweep from there, but  it was against a White, so not that impressive.

For fun: Closed Guard series -- Blake Bridge Series; Hauteur Wrap Attack; Williams Guard.

Taps 428

Taps: 2. Total: 428.

Techs - Brown Vince -- Side Control Maintenance.
1. If he bumps into you, put my near top elbow on inside of his top elbow and swing around to Side Control on the other side.

Mount Maintenance
1. From Standard Mount, with grapevines in legs, move knees up into his armpits and both legs on his hips, pressing as I get High Mount.
2. Right leg swivels onto his belly, come up on Knee on Belly.
3. Right hand underhooks and arm crawls, lifting his arm toward his head, left hand crossfaces and grabs under his shoulder/armpit near my right hand.
4. Drop my right hip, right and toward the mat and swing my leg back down for the Mount.

Black Chris -- Half to Deep Half Sweep.
1. Standard Half as I'm on my side facing to the right, right hand cups his left hand preventing the cross face.
2. I have underhook with the left hand. If he pummels and gets underhook on that side, I frame across his neck and shoulder so he can't come down and pressure me.
3. I dive under for his right trapped leg and hug it with both hands and get to Deep Half.
4. Trap and control his right hand and hug it along with his leg.
5. Left hand lifts up his trapped leg to get my right foot under it and replace the triangle I have on that leg.
6. Open my legs, left leg on mat, small hip out to the left and his butt should now be on the mat a little off balance.
7. Lift his trapped leg up with my right leg hook, swing around for the sweep and come up in Side Control.

Quick Review:
1. Clock Choke (Robson and A. Crane).
2. Mount to Side Choke (Saulo).
3. D. Asche's Sneaky Sweep from Under Side Control.

Taps 426

Taps: 5. Total: 426.

Tech: From Guard - Butt Straddle Series. (kind of like A. Blake's Bridge Sweep Series.)
1. Sweep: a. start from same grips - I have a two on one on his left sleeve, my right lets go and grabs knee pants on his left leg.
               b. my right leg on his left hip, hip out and to the right, onto my right shoulder and an angle to him.
               c. my left leg is dangling and swing it like a flower sweep movement, swing it over his left shoulder, my butt coming down on his bicep.
               d. sweeping him over to my right and finish with wrist lock.

2. Omoplata option: a. If he doesn't go over and i'm stuck on my side and can't sweep, go the other direction for the Omo.

3. He postures back into me, transition to Triangle.

4. Bonus: from the original sweep, just keep rolling into armbar from side. My drilling partner discovered it.

Review: Saulo Pass. Kept getting swept into bottom Mount. I was too low and didn't have my head on other side?

Nice After Class Bonus from Brown Vince.
Half Guard Bottom. -- His first option is to go for Deep Half, by underhooking the knee, but they will move that knee back. Then he frames and keeps that knee from coming back up and puts his knee in for Full Guard.

Taps: 421

Taps: 3. Total: 421

Less than 3 taps a class is crappy class. Means I wasn't rolling with tough guys.

Techs by Shark Mike.
Tech 1 - Mount Maintenance / Posture.
1. He goes for Elbow Escape and turns to side, I counter with S Mount, keep my foot tight, heel tight against his belly.
2. Grab outside/bottom leg at knee, and bottom/outside sleeve and fall forward to flatten him back to Mount.

Tech 2 - Ezchiel Choke from Mount.
1. Left hand cross faces.
2. My head against his, on the right side of his head so that he can't see the choke coming.
3. My right hand, elbow down tight against his shoulder, left hand grabs sleeve - four finger in, thumb out.
4. Right hand goes in, across his neck like a blade.
5. Straighten both elbows for the finish.

Tech 3 - Ezchiel Counter
1. When he goes to swim in with the second hand, get my left hand inside, reach reach, and overwrap and trap that hand.
2. Left leg traps his leg on that side, right leg to the center and out of his grapevine.
3. Upa and roll for the reverse into Guard.

Bonus (from Brown Vince) - Deep Half.
1. If he tries to Reverse Pass or puts his hand on other side of my head, grab under his knee that's near my head with my right hand -- this is key.
2. Left hand framing just under his armpit.
3. Hip into him to get leverage and come up for the reverse.

Quick Review (missing a couple details).
1. Half Pass: Great Grappler Tripod Pass and Scully's Foot Wedge.
2. Side Control to Armbar: Shogun's SC series (just the first part) and Ralek's secret armbar.
3. Loop choke: Robson's and Spinning Circle choke, Part 1 and Part 2, and Oli Geddes'.
4. Saulo's Turtle: remember to straighten leg out before I roll to Guard.

Homework:
1. Back Escapes.

2.My knee that's under his head, move it down his body and sprawl.
3. Wait for him to bridge to try to reverse and kick trapped leg free into KoB or Side Control.

1. Saulo Pass.
2. Machado Weave Pass. (Man, can't get this to work. Finally, just gave up and tried Single Under and had better luck.).

4. Spinning Circle Choke.
5. Deep Half Counter 1, and Back Take 1 and 2.
