19.8 Sunday Confessions 5070

Taps: 13. Total: 5070.

Update: 52 y.o. / Brown 3 Stripes.

Get there a little late, barely warmed up and first roll is with Monster Brn Nick ... and it's only half of the 6 min round, but he still gets in THREE quick taps, just from Straight Ankle Locks, and i think he got a couple more.

Purp Ira, gave me the Ryan Hall Open Elbow vids -- helped me already. Open elbow and levers. Ira has such a wicked Gi wrap game too. But i'm also seeing how he's constantly attacking the Elbow, getting it open and away from the body.

Been working the Cross Collar Grip BREAKS ... having some success. 2 main ones.
 1. from Ninja -- open thumb, then pull back and arch back.
 2. from Arman - grip fleshly part of hand, just below thumb, then pull and arch back.

Both work great. Just need to remember to break grips before moving on.

Also, got Ira a couple of times with Palm Down Push Sweep from Open Guard even.

Misc -- two Main counters when Top Mount and he's turning:
 1. Crossface and flatten.
 2. Abandon Mount, swivel/Wiper leg to KoB, then Side or stay KoB.

Tonon Backpack Turtle Turnover -- when they Turtle ... i can get turn them and take the Back. Fairly successful at it, sometimes can't get Both hooks in, and have trouble finishing from Back.

Next: Back Finish System.

Boredom -- sometimes a tech is so successful that i get bored. no surprises. Then i abandon the tech for a new shiny one that i need to learn all over again. then i come back to the original one much later and think, why did i abandon it?

19.7 Thur Am 5057

Taps: 6. Total: 5057

BB Chris ... I. Over/Under Pass with Pants Grip
 a. Left hand, left side pants Pistol grip on the inside of his leg
 b. Right hand under his other leg, grip belt or under thigh.
 c. Head to his chest, left shoulder on his chest ...
 d. Pass to side the Pistol Grip.
 e. bottom knee gets bent against his hip and crossface to solidify Pass into Side Control.

II. Continuation into N/S Choke
 a. instead of crossface, come over to other side of his head and get under
 b. don't get N/S, get 45 degree angle (if his feet/head are 12 and 6, then my head is 10 o'clock)
 c. bring my knees in close to his head, that will lift his head up and cinch my grip under and adjust.
 d. sprawl out my left leg as i start to move N/S and get low as possible
 e. my detail: rotate my choking hand left/right and right/left -- that will flex my biceps and tighten into his neck.

a little bit of progress:

Side ESC ... S. Whitt -- turn and shrimp but he will follow. Connect the other leg and elbow and shoot for the underhook and come up on my knees. Forgot to do that.

Where do i place my other hand at beginning? hard to see, but looks like it is checking his hip.

19.4 Saturday Breakfast Club 5038

Taps: 3. Total: 5038.

Taps are slowing down. Starting to attack a little more, getting a little bit better on defense.

BB Arman running the class.

Passing Focus ... love it. Coincidentally that's what's been on my mind. Also, he was at the Mendes Seminar. Love the Mendes' footwork when they pass.

I. Open and DLR Pass
 a. Break collar grip, grip flesh part of hand, turn it open, then arch back
 b. step back and get non-Dlr leg past me on my thigh
 c. grip outside the Dlr leg, turn my toes and knees 3 o clock, squat, staple the Dlr leg down.

Closed Guard 19.1

* Aggressive Closed Guard (effortless bjj)

1. My HIPs tight against his belly button. My BUTT off the mat and on his thigh even.
2. Break Posture - two-on-one, bring my legs in, My right hand grabs wrist, Left hand goes over and grabs Lat / Sweep to the Left with my legs.

** Upside Down Armbar

1. Control double hands/Palms ... can't post and Stand / bring in in with my legs, Break Posture
2. Grip: instead of Cross Collar, four finger IN -- he uses THUMB IN, PALM DOWN.
  a. other hand, goes UNDER, grip lower on gi, open UP my elbow, get closer, and better grip.
** Come up on my Hand, push with Grip and Get HIP BUMP SWEEP.

3. When he counters and pushes me back down -- Attack the Arm, my left Knee traps his shoulder/arm ... halfway to Omoplata ... my left foot on his HIP, my knee pinch/CLAMP
 a. from his arm under my armpit ... let him get his arm in front of me -- shoulder lock, lift his wrist up, get my leg over his head
 b. turn belly down, both hands PUSH UP position, he will roll and into Spider WEB.

Armbar Finish - 10:30 -- cross my leg with leg closest to his head on TOP, that keeps his shoulders flat / my butt tight, close to him.
** BREAK -- grab FINGERS (12:00). Fingers are the weakest. When fingers can't hold, the entire defense falls.

Judo 19.1

I. Kouchi Gari - N. Adams
 a. standard grips, Cross foot sweep, my right foot sweeps his right foot as i push into him with my right collar grip

... if he steps back or out of it, then his Left foot is forward, and

II. Ouchi Gari - Matt AQ
 a. footwork, back step into him, same side foot inside trip, my right foot inside out his Left foot.

III. Harai Goshi - Sambo Vlad
 a. standard grips or even underhook on right hand or over the back
 b. footwork same as Ouchi
 c. like an Outside Uchimata, my right foot on outside his right foot.

19.3 Sunday Confessions 5035

Taps: 4. Total: 5035.

Rolled with big, strong 3 stripe White, and of course he tried Strong man Subs on me, aka Kimura, Americana, and Arm Triangles ... he got very close several times. I always get lazy with new people, and i let him get too close and crossface me in Half Guard ...

One other interesting note: he had stubby fingers on his right hand, like Machado (can't remember which one) but he did pretty well.

Saw a Gator Roll Takedown (from the Knees) which was new, Brown against a BB.

Gonna buy some Pool Noodles and Drill the Sky Circle Knee Cut, to the right. So the Lepri Knee Cut to the right will be my two Main Passes.

Side ESC.

19.2 Sat Breakfast Club 5031 / 3 stripe White for Em

Taps: 2. Total: 5031.

And since she's not keeping track, i will: Em is 14, almost 15, training once a week for a year now, just got her Third Stripe, White at Legacy.

Back to the reg programming.

BB Chris ... I. Takedown from Knees -- into Butterfly Sweep with standard grips, same side collar, same side elbow grip.

II. Takedown 2 - foot crosses to opposite side, steering wheel.

III. Counter to the Steering Wheel, re-Steer him before he can complete move.

BB Mike showing Wolfie KoB escapes ... 1. bump to half; 2. under ankle to sweep. He makes it look so simple.

And later, a headlock to D'arce.

Wolfie was showing a sneaky Half Guard Choke, kinda rnc the other guy's arm? Have to ask him next time.

Review:

1. Telles Sweep Counter to Knee Cut. Third of the time i'm getting choked.
2. Mount Mastery.

Drill: 1, Sky Cut Pass.  2. Ghost.

Find: Counter to Pipe Choke.

19.1 Thur Am - 1st Sesh of Year

Taps: 0. Total: 5029.

Start of year ...
Weight -  146.5
Color - 3 Stripe BROWN

BB Chris ... Tech I - Basic Scissor Sweep from Closed Guard into Mount and Cross Choke
 a. deep collar grip
 b. load him up

i was partnered with BB Gerald, who's coming back from shoulder surgery, that my Bread n Butter Rev Scissor/Butterfly Sweep was a nice complement to this ... only change is the sleeve from from same side to Cross Sleeve.

He liked it a lot. Everyone i've shown it to seems to like that it's so simple and effortless.

Lots of BBs now ... today it was: Vince, Morde, Steve G, Gerald.

Don't really have a plan/goal for 2019 yet, other than:

1. Mount Mastery
2. Side ESc
3. Closed Guard Attacks
4. Passing

Thinking about Danaher's concepts ... path to Submission ... 1. get Dominant POSITION; 2. Pin/Control; 3. Isolate a limb; 4. Finish.

It works well for Armbars but i'm sure how it applies to Chokes, ie RNC, Triangle etc.

Saw Blue Gunth working on his Side ESC and gave him my two cents worth.
 1. top guy's position of the Knees, and bridge into him and away to Roll him. Conversely, if he's sprawled, you can't move him that direction.
 2. Get on side and establish outside leg Tripod so you don't get flattened again.
 3. if he MOUNTS, recover Half with the trailing leg.
