Taps: 748

Taps: 4. Total: 748.

Tech - Loop Choke review.

Tech 2 - Counter, ducking head under. Over/Under Chris Pass.

Tech 3 - Collar Drag.

1. One hand goes under his leg; other side/hand grips his pants leg.
2. Put shoulder pressure on his stomach as I go around for the pass. Either side.

It's a half Torreando, half over/under.

Review:

1. Lovato Smash Pass.
2. Spider Pass.
3. Omoplata Esc (Robson)
4. Spinner Takedown.
5. Marcelo Passing Drill
6. 1/2 Guard Modules (new breed privates).

Taps: 744

Taps: 2. Total: 744.

Tech. - Loop Choke from Open Guard.

Ryron has a nice detail of kicking out the knee to get his head dead. Very nice, efficient.

Details: 1. Get the head under his chin; 2. Get his head down.

Counter - duck under the cross collar grip before going around for the pass.

Taps: 742

Taps: 4. Total: 742.

Armbar ESC - new.
I usually stick up knee up against his butt preventing him from raising his hips, but Brown Vince showed this where you go the other way and wrap your free hand behind his head and twist in that direction. Nice.

Back Esc - double flip.
1. Arch back and flip your legs one way, then flip over him the other way and come up in Side Control.

Tozi Pass - failed. He kept turning and we ended up going around in circles. Did I have my head on the wrong side?

Oli does a grab knee and step back.  The original Tozi Pass has him pushing down on the shoulder, going around that side, then crunching on the other side of his head.

Either way, I need to keep him from turning with me.

Taps: 738

Taps: 2. Total: 738.

Brown Vince - Pre-Class:

Grip breaks Closed Guard - Bottom - always have two grips, and if a grip is broken, that's the one to re-grip; don't let go a grip, re-grip on the lost one.

Top Closed Guard -- Break grips and when he has none, then that's the time to break open his guard.

Concept: Offense techniques "offer clues" to Defense. Example: Knee Cut Pass. Need three things.
1. Knee in middle.
2. Get Underhook.
3. Cross face.

So the defense is to deny any one of those things.

Bonus: asked Vince how to break Black Joel's cross collar -- Use both hands, keep in place and USE MY BACK, pull back with my Back, not the hands.

Class - Black Chris.
Tech 1 - Lockdown to Deep Half Sweep A.
1. Get Lockdown, get underhook.
2. Rock him and grab under his thigh, get Deep Half.
3. Grab behind him, his belt, scissor legs and come up.

Sweep B. - if he bases forward, go other way come out the back and grab his knee and ankle and push him down.

Tech 2 - Deep Half Pass.
1. Get underhook.
2. Straighten near leg, get heavy and down on the mat on that hip, like a sprawl.
3. Grab his top knee at the pants, scoot back toward his head and free my leg.

Two Mistakes
1. Standing Pass - kept getting swept because I was stepping back with the wrong leg. Step back my right leg. Right leg. Right leg. Do Michael Jackson.

2. Not breaking grips before I do low passes.

Movement drills - Torreando -- all four directions:
1. Pull
2. Push
3. Side to Right
4. Side to Left
Bonus: one right, one left.

Taps: 736

Taps: 7. Total: 736.

Just open mat with one other new Blue and Black Joel. Guess no one wanted to train on Father's Day. Black Joel is sneaky in his subs and setups. He goes for the B submission, when all along he wants the A sub. Then gets it because I was defending the B.

He gets the cross collar grip in Open Guard, making it hard to pass. And I almost got the Pass with the Torreando, but my head dips a little going around the corner and he quickly snaps on the Guillotine. And from there I'm defending my neck the whole time.

Taps: 729 - No Excuses, No Ego

Taps: 3. Total: 729.

Tech - Open Guard Sweeps.
A. Ankle Grab.
   1. from Double sleeve, my right hand goes to his left angle and grabs; right leg on his left hip, left leg hooks inside low on his right leg.
   2. Push into his hip with my right leg and he should fall and I come up on top.

B. var. He steps back.
  1. If he steps back and out of my left leg hook, then I switch my sleeve grip from his right hand to his left.
  2. Switch legs on his hip, so my left leg on his left hip and push into him with that leg as my right leg swings down low and reaps his right leg.

C. Omoplata option.
  1. stretch him then go for the omo.

No excuses -- the mind goes to the Excuses room so easily. Haven't trained in awhile. I'm hurt. He's bigger. It's so much BS.

I'm going to try this new mindset -- "no excuses, no ego."

Rolling with a Brown, about my size and weight and he's doing all kinds of 50-50, and berimibolo crap and I wasn't too fussed because I really don't want to learn that stuff now. When I'm annoyed enough then maybe ... but right now, as a one-stripe Blue, I'm going to keep focusing on Escapes, Passing, Closed Guard sweeps, Half Guard and maintaining positions and setups for Subs.
