Taps: 4. Total: 4036.
BB Vince ... Half Guard Basics
1. Get on my SIDE.
2. Knee Shield for space and keep him away.
3. Prevent Crossface. Right hand on the wrist, Left hand palm down, thumb in grip or frame on shoulder (if i frame on his bicep, he can twist shoulder and put pressure).
4. To bring him close ... Right hand cross collar grip, Left hand same side wrist or sleeve grip / Collar drag along with the wrist grip, Take the Back.
5. Any time he posts top hand on my hip, grab it, control that wrist.
6. If he gets low to Double link his hands, get my Right foot on his hip and go to Closed Guard. Don't let him link his hands together.
7. Tries got over my Right leg, got deeper and triangle my legs for Regular Half Guard from Knee Shield.
Half Guard Top ... Reverse Half to Kimura to Knee Bah.
1. With Kimura grip, step over his face with left leg (bend the knee and tuck under his butt).
2. Underhook his top leg, swivel into Knee bah, my right knee flares out, points toward him.
3. If he defends by Triangling his leg ... grab top foot (not knee bah leg), tuck it under my armpit like i'm going to footlock it.
4. Go under and gather the other foot, Knee bah original leg and shin slicer.
Brn Gorr ... rolled with him starting from feet. He hit the Fake Guard Pull to Ankle Sweep on me TWICE. I know it's a Mendes move. When he showed it to me ... he picked the same side ankle that he faked and put his foot on my hip, but i notice the Mendes picks the other foot.
Rant: My Closed Guard Sucks. My Passing Sucks. My Side ESC sucks. My Half Guard sucks Less.
Work on: Closed Guard (Huni Xande SweepVariation). Also, people are standing ... go to X Guard.
Passing (Buchecha, Lo Torreando, Leg Drag - Letitica drill app)
Side ESC (prevent crossface, get underhook)

My Takedown from Knees / Distract Ankle Pick
Starting Roll on Knees.
This is what I'm been trying and having some success. When they're sitting on their butt, the best thing is to just grab both ankles and pull up and put them on their back and initiate my Pass.
So this is my variation: my Right hand reaches in, near their face, like i'm going for a collar grip, or wave it near their eyes/face to distract them, while my Left hand reaches opposite ankle and pulls up and get them on their back.

17.18 Tues Am Club 4032
Taps: 6. Total: 4032.
One of those taps to the Big White Belt, who keeps wanting to partner with me. Strong, eager beaver. I should be more depressed than I am. Purple two stripe tapping to new White. But I've been lazy and complacent about letting these lower belts get deep dangerous grips. Need to address that.
BB Chris ... Double Under Pass.
1. pick one side, get low stomach gi grip.
2. Get that leg on my shoulder, get on my toes, pressure pressure, get his knee towards his nose.
3. Get the Pass.
Double Under Pass to the Choke.
1. Get low grip, other hand pants under his butt, stack him.
2. Then get higher grip, Paper Cutter grip.
3. Keep stacking the pants grip, Paper Cutter grip elbow on mat and raised towards his ear for the Finish.
Double Under Pass Counter.
1. Push elbow away, shrimp away and come for the Triangle/Armbar.
In Half and Side Control -- PREVENT CROSSFACE. PREVENT CROSSFACE. That's all i'm going to focus on. BEFORE i move on to anything else. Then ... Drill drill ... Side ESC Bridge 1000x.
Review: Armbar leg trap ESC ... half the time, they are transitioning to my back. I'm doing something wrong, or I'm not doing something.
*Keep working the Faria Overhook Omoplata ... rolling with Brn Chris: had a tough time getting my other leg and arm out bc he was blocking my leg and he had my gi wrapped on the arm for the under gi label Pass ... next time: get leg out and go for TRIANGLE. It's easier and it's there.

17.17 Simi Open Mat 4026
Tap: 4. Total: 4026.
Day 3 straight of 4 done.
*Brn Drew ... man his Mount was tight, and squeezing very hard. Must emulate.
*Side to Back Take ... three different peeps did the same on me. Must be a KennyB special. From Side, get Seatbelt or Kimura grip, swivel/wiper near leg against his back, step over other leg (a la Tech Mount), then pull him over to the other side and Back Take and get other hook in.
*Random Purp had a nice Lasso Sweep: Lasso and cross his legs or Triangle his legs, makes it even harder to pull hand out and more torque on the Sweep.
*My Half Guard EXPOSED and PASSED ... a couple of guys had good Half Passing ... near lapel grip denied my the space to get Underhook and they were good about pulling up on my far arm.
*My Half Passing ... Keep my HIPS DOWN.
* Purp Zach ... Fast-paced roll. Most fun i had in awhile. He flow-rolled but in hyperspeed, felt like I was surfing.
*Totally selfish: didn't roll with any White Belts lately. All about me. Well, Sunday there were no Whites. Today, conscious decision not to roll with any Whites. Although, if a White Belt had asked me to roll, I would have. I HAVE NEVER TURNED DOWN A ROLL from any belt, EVER.Unless I was injured or bleeding. That's just part of my personal philosophy.
*Immersion Vid watch: Felipe Pena, especially his BACK TAKING.

17.16 Sunday Confessions Open Mat 4022
Taps: 9. Total: 4022.
Day 2 of 4 Straight in the books.
Brn Steve had some nice concept advice: I was NOT escaping any positions. I was just transitioning from one bad spot to another -- Mount, Back, Armbar. So I need to CHANGE MY RHYTHM/PATTERN of movements. He was one step ahead of me the whole time because my rhyth m was predictable. Food for thought.
Caught in a few Omoplatas and in Mount Bottom kept getting my arm out there and in bad position when they lift their leg on that side, trapping my arm.

Long President weekend means 4 straight days of training. Day 1 of 4 done. Class, open mat, open mat, class.
BB Chris... Sit Up Guard
1. Sit on side, don't let go of Cross Collar grip. Back hand bases and follow guy if he tries to go around.
2. Break grips with off hand near knee; collar grip side turn my knee down to mat to break grip
3. Collar Drag into Turtle top into Clock Choke ... a. Underhook side open gi collar, top choking hand comes down behind husband ear to under his chin and get collar grip
3b. Underhook hand switches to same side wrist, pull down towards his belly.
4. Wrist flick on grip, take slide step, pressure pressure pressure on his shoulder; other leg comes over my first step counter clockwise.
II. Turtle Top to Back Take
1. He is protecting his neck, can't get any collar grips.
2. Right hand over his hip, normally the Underhook hand, get FAR SIDE (closer to me but far fro my hand) collar grip, middle to low on him.
3. My left leg, which was based way wide, comes behind him, wipers right over his near ankle.

17.14 Sunday Confession 4012
Taps: 8. Total: 4012
BB Tarca ... Holding Mount
*turn his head the opposite way his turning; Paper cutter choke grip on top to keep him turned; other hand comes under his head for the Ezekiel.
Purple reign ... 10 purples on the mat today, 3 brown, one blue plus BB Tarca.
Born David ... working that arm drag on me and dragging my arm across when I defend his brabo attempts.
Open Guard ... still looking for my go-to Open Guard... flirting with Shin to Shin, Lasso and DLR, but I really need to get back to X Guard. Having minor successes with it and I have abandoned it or keep forgetting about it all too often.
**Look up: Inverted Guard Pass to Back Take. (Japanese vid?)

17.13 Thurs Am 4004
Taps: 1. Total: 4004.
BB Chris ... review of 2 Triangle ESC and 1 Omoplata ESC.
2nd Hour ... BB Vince / Kimura series.
I. Half Guard Top, Kimura Counter to Stepover Armbar
a. Reach under, grab his top hand (one that's grabbing his own wrist).
b. Slide out of Half into Side, Step Over with left leg over his head.
c. My other hand goes under his wrist, Pivot, sit down into Armbar.
II. Half Guard Bottom, Kimura to the Back.
a. Kimura grip, push into him, or he grabs own thigh.
b. Release my own Half guard, go N/S and get my elbow down on the mat
c. Swing my hips over to take the Back.
options: a. he turns away ... there's room for Armbar.
b. he turns in ... Back Take.
** Flower Sweep with the Arm Across Center line ... finally understand WHY i haven't been able to sweep. I get to this position all the time and get stuck and can't sweep. One tiny little adjustment. ONE tiny little detail.
recap: 1. i have a grip over his shoulder, grip on his armpit; 2. his arm and elbow is across centerline and i have it trapped against my chest ... so I need to put LEFT LEG down to block that side and then Here's the Secret Sauce ... HIP into him, away from sweep, getting him under me a little and creating angle and space for the sweep, then kick him over with my Right Leg as usual and he's SWEPT.
Work on: Faria Omoplata from the Closed Guard ... works off the Overhook setup.

17.12 Sunday Confession 4003
Taps: 4. Total: 4003.
Wow, hit the 4000 mark.
Tarsis Mt attack -- getting better at it. S Mount maintenance ... "Forcing S Mount" vid by BQuick.
Huni Sweep and his two-on-one series.
Getting stuck in Side Guard, and can't quite get the Flower Sweep off of it. More perpendicular? More swing to my left leg? Practice.
Big purp got a Ghost Side ESC on me with the lapel. Man, I've been trying that and have given up on it. He started with deep, high Underhook, so maybe I should revisit.
Shin on Shin Guard - having trouble getting that other side grip to get Spider. Try transition to Triangle because i'm getting the lift but not much else.

17.10 and 17.11 Back to Back Training
Taps: 0. Total: still 3990 at the Sat Breakie Club.
Not many peeps today. And I was highest upper belt, other than the two BB.
BB Chris ... Triangle ESC 1.
1. ie my right hand inside, put that hand on his hip, my other hand on top of that wrist, and walk my knee up near his butt.
2. And posture up, look up at ceiling.
3. Then shoot outside hand inside, and back into Closed Guard.
Triangle ESC 2.
1. my inside right grabs his knee, other hand, too and get that knee on the mat to my left.
2. create angle, walk my right knee near his butt, to the right.
3. pull that knee down towards my belly, create a little space to get my outside hand through and back to Closed Guard.
Omoplata ESC.
1. my right hand trapped, lift up and post up my left leg, that gives me leverage to posture up and lift his butt off the mat and get him on his shoulder.
2. Go under his top leg, slide my right leg through to Side Control.
17.11 Noho MMA re-location Grand Opening, owned my Brn Steve who I know from Sunday Confessions Masters II Open mat. His grand opening was an Open Mat.
Taps: 9. Total: 3999.
First roll - BB Mike, a guy training for MMA career. Nice guy. Last roll - Purp Kip, complete leglock guy. He started every roll standing with his left foot forward and then sat down into some Honeyhole/411 type entry into various leglocks. I could only defend for so long before he got me with something.
Also, saw random purp giving a good Lasso Guard Passing tip ... step back and elbow HIGH to clear the Lasso. Guess it also works vs Spider. Anyway gotta remember and use it.
Man, four hours of training today.
