17.76 Thursday A.M. Club 4326

Taps: 2. Total: 4326.

First hour - open mat, just light rolling.

Second Hour - Q & A with BB Vince and BB Mike. And Positional Drilling. Then more rolling.

Didn't feel like training but glad that i did.

**Cross Sleeve Grip Hip Bump Sweep from Closed Guard. Hit that a couple of times vs Blue David.

* Shoulder Gable Grip and Half Butterfly Sweep -- could not finish. (Butterfly hook needs to be on opposite as the Grip and sweep to same side as Grip. Or just 100% Sweep - Bridge without hooks and take him to the right.)

BB Vince tip: Side Control Top
 1. Side to N/S Transition.
 2. If he turns into me -- immediately block with my knee up for KoB.
 3. Lift his bottom leg, go back to N/S and Side Control.
or N/S then Side Control on other Side.
** From KoB - Windshield Wiper to MOUNT.

Bonus: one thing i noticed Vince doing when he was under Side Control - he controlled the top arm as other guy tried to bring his arm back toward Vince's head, there was all that space for Vince Reverse Shrimp and recover Guard.
Important bc i have usually the regular way -- Shrimp and Turn in to Recover Guard, not the other way. feel i'm not explaining it right.

Been playing the Cross Collar Guard a lot. The series i learned in Taiwan. I knew all the pieces but PMA Chris put it together and it's kind of like Kron's Game.
 1. Push / Pull and Collar Drag to Back Take.
 2. Push to Angle Pick / Knee Pick.
 3. He tries to Grip Break with Two-on One -- Ankle Pick as he pulls back.
 4. If he goes left, follow; if he goes Right, let him Pass and into Loop Choke.
 5. Force Loop Choke -- getting above him, tucking his head under my elbow.

Really lovin' this series.

17.75 Sat Breakfast Club back at Home base 4324

Taps: 0. Total: 4324.

BB Chris .. Tech 1 - Closed Guard, Hip Bump Sweep with Cross Sleeve Grip.

Tech 2 - Closed Guard, Cross Collar grip, that side Lapel Tail wrap over Choke.
(could not get the finish on this in drills. perhaps the angle? This is the same tech shown by BJJ Ninja)

Tech 3 - Closed Guard, vs Standing, open my guard, grab both ankles, push my knees into hip to knock down. Come up into Mount.

No taps, but lots of Blues giving me fits, but did end up in Cruxifix with Blue Eddie, that was completely opportunistic and accidental.

Lots of Whites too i haven't seen before, must be a new crop coming up.

Roll call: Purp David giving me fits, too. Rolled with Brn Wolfie but not Brn Kennedy. BB Jason in the house. think he might be injured. didn't see him rolling with anyone. the rest were Blues and Whites.

17.74 Sunday OG OM 4324

Taps: 8. Total: 4324.

Back in the USA.

Saw a couple of cool techs.

Prof Crane showing a Closed Guard Lapel, foot under the armpit into Omoplata.

Prof Tarca ... Half Guard Sweep ... Cross Collar Frame, his top arm on Underhook side, control it and over under and roll to sweep. Need to get vid next Sunday.

Failed to finish Bow and Arrow couple of times that i got there ... weak grip. But he didn't escape because i kept my elbow down and near the mat.

Purp Ira good tips: i can't crossing my arms and legs the wrong way.

Caught in Arm Triangle a couple of times: got out once, the other, i think he transitioned to Ezekiel.

New Prof Steve ... small, old man jj and he always taps me with ANGLES. not much room for normal escapes.

17.73 Taipei Training 4...4316

Taps: 7. Total: 4316.

Back to PMA BJJ ... Open Mat and class. There is the BB and one Brown (who I didn't roll it's this time), so how is it possible to tap 7 times? Two or three were to the BB, but the rest were to lower belts??!!!

Uh, yes. Can't underestimate the Blues and Purple. I get lazy and tired and get myself in dangerous positions. Against Whites, I can usually get out, but not always against colors.

Class tech ... nice long sequence broken down into Four parts.
 I. Collar Guard Ankle Pick , when he tries to break collar grip and pulls back

II. Into Buchecha Pass, hand on hip, hand on outside knee, sprawl back, or even X Pass to Side Control.

III. In Side, crossface hand grips top gi for control and he Turtles
 1. Get my near knee in, outside foot between his leg, shovel/torque it out
 2. Get near leg in, hook other foot in place, shrimp out to get outside foot in for second hook.

 IV. Seatbelt control to RNC
 1. Underhook arm controls far arm, choking hand clamps on shoulder and start going for RNC.

Catalogue of aches
 1. Finger on left hand (jammed from last session)
 2. Right knee sore
 3. Back of neck -- bad gi burn, skin scrapped from people pulling on gi for the choke
 4. Right calf (thought it was a cramp), but just remembered that Calf Slicer that Purple got me with.
 5. Right elbow ... Armbar

Some of the taps ... Armbar, kimura, calf slicer and a couple of Ezekiels from Mount. People like the Ezekiel from Mount here.

17.72 Taiwan training 3: 4309

At Taiwan BJJ.

Taps: 3. Total: 4309.

Wednesday nooner, Beginners fundamental class, taught by Purple belt, all in Chinese.

Facilities were nice, bigger than PMA, so not bumping into walls or into others and having to reset often, and they even have showers.

Tech by Purple ... whole series on Half Guard bottom.
 I. Flattened, top guy has crossface and underhook... frame, frame, shrimp, shrimp, and get half Butterfly hook in

II. Option 2: shovel hook with outside foot, near elbow, same side as crossface -- elbow escape into Closed Guard.

III. Lockdown Sweep... Bridge into him to the right, underhook his thigh, sweep to the left.

IV. Vs Lockdown, he frames and stays back ... Leite Dogfight KneeTap Push Sweep
 1. Come up, sit up and get underhook, my right side is on my elbow.
 2. Come up to Dogfight, both knees on mat, tap his outside knee or pull his knee in, and push, lean into him for sweep.

Armbar Break from Spider Web series
 I. Top hand weaves in, lean down towards his feet, bottom right hand underhooks is leg.

Option II: switch hands, bottom hand weaves in between his arms - Triangle/ Armbar option
 1. Bottom leg between his arms, top leg comes off his face, S Mount figure
 2. Reach behind his head, grab my right ankle, let him come up, lock in Triangle.

Option 3: X Guard his arm to break
1. Back to top arm weaves in, top leg goes between his arms, then bottom leg comes on top and x Guard his off attacked arm.
2. Lean toward his feet again, extending with X legs, and lastly, start moving my top arm from his biceps, to his forearm, and close to his wrist (weakest point) ... that should break open his Armbar defense.

Lots of techniques, no positional drilling or rolling.

But I stayed for Open Mat, and so did most of the people in the class.

Man, I am so lazy with my Half Guard, giving up Underhooks and the crossface, just absolutely getting Knee Cut to death by the color belts

Played with the Collar Guard (series I learned at PMA), Drag, loop choke and ankle pick ... pretty effective with White, colored ... not so much. I going to keep playing with it.

Plan to go back to the Advanced class to see what that's like, since it's taught by resident BB.
