Taps: 620

Taps: 9. Total: 620.

That's what happens when there's four Brown Belts in class. And still trying to start most of my rolls from having my Back taken to work on Back ESC. Still hit and miss, especially with higher belts.

Tech. 1 - Step foot Take Down.
1. Standard judo grip setup: left hand elbow sleeve grip, right hand same side collar grip.
2. Timing: he steps forward and has all his weight on his left foot. I step/trap that foot with my right foot.
3. Lift left hand up, my right hand down (steering wheel to right motion).
4. Twist my right hip back, pointing at 6 o'clock. Then sit down at that angle, and pulling him down with my collar grip.
5. Takedown and come up in Side Control.
** If he doesn't have weight on that one foot, he will just come down on top of me, and I won't get that twist of the takedown.

Focus:
1. Back ESC.
2. Sitting inside Closed Guard -- Posture.
3. Half Guard.

Back ESC Vids

The first one is similar to Saulo's scoop, but he stresses the elbow to knee connection (which I always forget to do). Elbow to Knee. Elbow to knee. So that he can't get his hook back in. Elbow to Knee.

Taps: 611

Taps: 4. Total: 611.

Tech. 1 - Basic Side ESC -Prevent Cross Face.
1. Prevent cross face, get his arm over on the other side of your head.
2. Grip high on his top armpit, elbow frame so he can't bring his arm back.
3. Other hand, frame his hip.
4. Upa up and get knee in and reGuard.

Tech. 2 - Side Control to Triangle (if he gets Underhook trigger).
1. Get inside and trap his near arm with my knee.
2. Pin his underhook hand to his hip, step over and get my leg under his neck and grab that ankle.
3. Roll into triangle

Lil Bro's Clock choke from Side update: Can't pull it off, but having success with his Plan B suggestion. Since the guys are not respecting the KoB and defending the second hand, I just go straight to Mount. Sweet.

Drill update: Going to add a 30 min. of Drill day a few days a week.

Focus:

  • Back ESC.
  • Side ESC
  • Half Guard.

Actually started a few rolls with my Back taken. Still need to do that more.

Lots of people today, a little over 20 I think, with a tough warmup and I remember thinking, "I'm happy right this moment." To answer a question from my other blog. It made me smile. It didn't last that long though. Have to find more moments like this.

Mendes Turtle-Back-Choke Notes

A. Turtle Turnover
  1. Knee against his knee, hip against hip. Get knees off mat.
  2. Don't grab. Cup far side hip to help with pulling.
  3. Control hip. Lean in, push hip on hip, and when he resists or pushes back, pull back and get him in ...

B. Side Turtle.
* Can get to Side Control, too.
  1. If he tries to get back to Turtle, there's space to get near hook in, get Seatbelt grip.
  2. Other foot, jump out to side and pull him over to Back.
  3. Squeeze with Seatbelt, stretch him, roll over to my left and get 2nd hook in.

C. Back
  1. Squeeze with my legs (control hips), not with hooks.
  2. Stretch back with Seatbelt.
  3. Grab wrist with Underhook hand, trap that hand with my leg.
  4. Underhook hand now free to feed collar to top hand, then get 2nd bottom collar grip.
  5. Fall to my left side, get my other leg over his shoulder (cross feet), then finish cross collar Choke.
