Taps: 721 - Go Where the Fear Is

Taps: 8. Total: 721.

Open mat. Tried Henry's Side ESC, halfway there. No luck. Got my faced smashed. Hate rolling with the big, strong White Belts, but that's what I gotta do. This motto kept playing in my head: GO WHERE THE FEAR IS.

What can happen? I get hurt. Next best case? I get used to the fear.

Focus:
1. Bottom Half Guard.
2. Henry's Side / Top and Bottom.
3. Lo's Knee Slide / Posting.
4. Xande and Lovato Smash Pass.

Rolled with Instructor Black Chris. Total Dead end. He gets on top and his top pressure is insane. He doesn't move. Just sits there with pressure. Gives me no opening. So I have to move and he shuts down anything I try, and my moving makes him heavier. I'm just praying for him to sub me.

His Side pressure I've felt before. But his Mount was high and right across my chest and he had his legs out, knee bent like he was going for Triangle.

Taps: 713

Taps: 2. Total: 713.

Tech. 1 - Mount Chest Pressure to Armbar.
1. Get behind his left elbow, push it across and bring my chest pressure on top of it.
2. Get underhook with left hand, bring his right arm up as I bring my right knee tight against his head, and get my left leg from S Mount to flat on mat under his head.
3. Keep his hands away from each other, get my right hand under his left wrist (his left hand is one I'm attacking), lean weight forward a little, swing my right leg over his head and back for the armbar.

Var. - choke, and if he defends, then armbar.

Half Guard var.
1. if he gets hand to frame on my neck or shoulder, ie his left hand, then push it across.
2. Get underhook with my left hand, chest pressure will trap that hand.
3. Then either get my leg out to Side or Mount; or threaten arm triangle.

Taps 711

Taps: 2. Total: 711.

Been thinking about BJJ philosophy, being more efficient and not techniques per se. Henry and Rickson and Saulo -- talking about connection. Hidden JJ. Invisible JJ. But also trying to learn techniques related to each other so I can chain them together.

Chaining techniques.

Review:

Half Guard Bottom. So sick of getting smashed on the bottom of Half Guard.

Weird thing happened today. I was rolling with my partner and I see across the room a White belt, jiggling and lifting this Purple belt's legs. The White belt CHOKED OUT the Purple belt! I think he used the Magid Choke.

Sneaky. I just don't know if you can pull it off again.

Taps: 709

Taps: Total: 709

Tech - Triangle Escape.
1. Right arm is caught inside; so grab outside of his right leg with free hand and get that leg on the mat. Free hand side.
2. Get up a little, get left knee to his butt, get up and swing my right leg over his head.
3. Stretch my head back to break his leg grip; swing my leg over and come out other side in Cross Side.

Need to Review:

1. Deep Half Counter.

2. Henry Cross Side Top & Esc.
3. Henry Armbar movement and "bite."
4. Henry Triangle.

Misc -- I think I started a trend. There was two other guys with Head Gear today.

Rolling -- way too much straining. I hate that. Failed: Reverse Scissor Sweep; Deep Half Killer; Butterfly Pass.

Still 707 taps - Butterfly Passes

Taps: 0. Total: 707.

Butterfly Passes Series.
A. Leg Grab.
1. All the Passes start with getting double underhooks, pushing his chest with my head and getting him flat on his back.
2. Grab his foot with my left, pass it over to my right.
3. Drop my left hip down on that knee, and walk over left side as I press down on his knee for the pass.

B. Inbetween Grab.
2. If I can't reach his leg or pass it over, then just grab with the right hand, between his legs (rather than the outside and around his knees.)
3. Rest is the same.

C. Leg and Sleeve Pull
1. Same side sleeve and leg grip, and pull up and turn him.
2. Come on KoB.
3. Option: go to Armbar.

D. Flip Pass
2. Get both pants grips low.
3. Flip completely over, then turn back over for the pass.

* Very similar to Christian's Butterfly Pass. Need to review that.

This with the Double Jump without leg trap.

Tip for Kimura Finish:
*Wait til he relaxes, then pull.

Taps: 707 - High Shoulder Guard

Taps: 3. Total: 707.

Tech - High Closed Guard, setup to Armbar.
1. (attacking his right arm) With my right arm, reach under his left arm, grab outside his right elbow.
2. My left hand reaches over his left shoulder and pulls him down, break his posture.
3. Open my Guard, hip up and get my right leg over his left shoulder, then close guard.
4. Armbar from here: push his head with my left (my right still has grip on his right elbow), swing my left leg over his head.

Sneaky, Quick Hip Bump Sweep var.
* Blue Brian got me with this twice in one roll, and barely stopped him on the third one.
1. He had a cross sleeve grip, hipped out just a little to get on his side.
2. Then he pulled on the grip as he came up and bumped.

Work on:

** Half Guard Bottom -- keep ending up on the wrong side. Need to get on my side, but on the opposite side of his trapped leg. That's when I get flattened out.

Review
Tanquiho Sweep

Major fail. The guy just sat and mounted me.

Mild Success:
1. Reverse Scissor.
2. Keenan Kimura Hotdog Roll.

3. And hip toss, turning my head to the left. If done right, he should be light.

1. Slide outside his hip toss setup, get underhook with my left hand.

A. Side Attack - Brabo grip to Cross Collar Choke.
* Get underhook and control arm before passing the gi grip over to my right hand. (otherwise he can roll away.)

B. Side Attack - N/S to Armbar
1. Isolate arm by grabbing my own gi collar, then go N/S.
2. N/S, then my knee on his shoulder/bicep to trap his other hand (that would normally link his hands and defend).
3. Sit back for armbar.
4. If if turns, then go for Kimura.
5. If he flattens back, back to armbar.

Jacare Takedowns

* little success with them.
