17.9 Sunday Confession 3990

Taps: 3. Total: 3990.

Blue Mike ... showed me a cool Simplied Version of Giggler Sweep from Half Guard. He hit it on me twice. I had to ask.
 1. He gets underhook, so I get a tight Overhook to block that side, the sweep side.
 2. My feet together, pinch his leg, bring both my feet down on mat, the swing, torque to the left for the Sweep.
 Crazy simple and easy.

Blue Shane ... another ex-wrestler pulled off a Fireman Carry from the knee and Turtle. Never seen it from low like that. Still pretty cool.

Side Control top ... need to move, transition. Liked how Prof Crane moved from side to side, KoB to KoB, foot tucked in, and mounted when he wanted. Need to drill that.

Look at: Lister Triangle counter, and Niccolini shin spider guard.

17.8 Thur Breakie Club 3987

Taps: 3. Total: 3987.

BB Chris ... Half Guard I / Knee Shield Choke
 1. Knee Shield, and Underhook my Left hand; Right hand dives deep to underhook his thigh and tuck in my head.
 2. He can't get Underhook; he has just enough space to Crossface ... stop the Crossface with my right hand, C-clamp on his bicep.
 3. Change my left Underhook to Cross Collar grip, framing on his neck, Palm Down-Thumb in Grip.
 4. Right hand comes under, grabs other collar, pulls out any slack, and then creeps higher up and pulls down as Left choking goes up with Elbow pointing up for the Finish.

II. Same but from the F%(%(*) Up Half Guard Position.
 1. I'm flattened, he's got Underhook and the Crossface.
 2. Get my right elbow inside his knee (on the Crossface side), push out to grip inside the knee, frame to make space.
 3. Shrimp back, left to get space to get my left knee in for the Shield and frame my left hand on his collar and we're at the above Position Step 3.

III. Standup ... Hip Toss Takedown, ending in an Kimura grip-type Armbar.
 1. Off the pummel, I get Underhook on the right side.
 2. My left hand controls his right wrist (tucked under my armpit), my hand cups under his elbow.
 3. I move right, toward his back, toward my underhook side and get perpendicular to him, to his hip (like i'm humping his hip).
 4. Push him forward and as he pushes back, my Back leg (right) steps in front, my HIP gets wide out side of him and gets him on my back for the TOSS.
** Armbar: my left hand goes under his arm and grips my right wrist, as my right and frames on his shoulder; look up, arch back as my left hand puts pressure behind his elbow for the Finish.

IV. Closed Guard to Side Guard Control Setup.
 1. He's got both hands on my chest, so I swim inside and pull in with my legs to break his posture.
 2. My left hand Overhooks, goes over his back to grab his belt; right hand underhooks and grabs my left wrist; keep Guard Closed ... tight control.
 3. When he puts left hand on my shoulder to frame and get space ... my right leg on his hip, shrimp a bit, push on that elbow to get to Side Guard.
*Detail: my left hand pulls out and goes over his left arm and under his right arm as I link my hands over his back.
Side Guard ... from there, all the usual Side Guard options: Backtake, Sweep and armbar?

Purp Morgan still giving my fits with his Deep Half and Brn Freddy gave me a couple to tips:
 1. Underhook and get low to Crossface.
 2. Straighten, Sprawl the free, left leg; stay low and heavy on that side.

17.7 Tues Breakie Club 3984

Taps: 9. Total: 3984.

BB Chris ... Turtle Attack ... I. Cross Choke.
 1. Keep my weight on center of his back, not too over and not too my side.
 2. My near knee (right) on mat, pressed against his knee; other leg based out like KoB, pressing in.
 3. My right hand over his hip, underhook and grab far collar, elbow in tight, against his hip; left hand grip near hand by the elbow.
 4. Right hand opens collar, feeds it to left choking hand, that comes in over his ear and under his neck; grip and wrist flick.
 5. Right hand grips other collar, pulls down toward his stomach.
 6. Baseball slide, right leg through, near his head for the tap.

Reverse Position: Turtle Sweep from same ... II. Sweep.
 1. Grab my own right collar with my left hand, so he can't get the grip; tuck in chin, head leans in that way further denying any entry for the choke grip.
 2. Right hand traps his wrist, ideal over the elbow.
 3. Left hand straightens out to mat like Heil Hitler, right leg straightens out to the back, and ROLL him over.

On the Current Work Space:
*Huni Sweep ... kind of worked on White B
 *Rolling Side ESC
 *Tech Mount ESC
*Deep Half Counter -- Purp Morgan still giving me fits with DH, ever since he was Blue.
 *Half Pass (Schreiner?)
*Need an Open Guard ... Lasso and DLR?
*Closed Guard Pass ... noticed Brn Z the Beast using a simple Pass ... open, knee up, knee cut over the thigh, then windshield/hop his other leg for the Pass.

17.6 Sunday Confession 3975

Taps: 6. Total: 3975.

Getting crushed in Half, trying the Huni Sweep, or the Brabo Choke. Keep working it. Buchecha Pass working, mix it up with Faria Over/Under and Sky Cut.

S Mount Esc ... go back and view, trap his leg with mine? this ONE.

oh and High Guard, go for Armbar by swinging my leg over his face. I get to High Guard and can't progress.

17.5 Sat club 3969

Taps: 5. Total: 3969.

BB Chris... review of Seoi Nage throw... get close, hip to hip; punch in deep with my bicep; my hip on outside a bit so his hip doesn't slip off.

Watching too much Faria vids ... pulling Half Guard, trying for Huni Sweep. No luck. Also, Kimura counter from half bottom, no luck because it was against Brn Z...one of the toughest beast there. Learned lots rolling with him: interesting ways he cross faces from top half and mount; also getting under chin in RNC ... he could stretch me, but instead he crosses against various parts of my face, i.e. forehead, nose and mouth.

Blue Asian Paul kept doing a good job stripping my grips as I tried to play the Faria/Huni Half. Also, I keep losing the Knee Shield as I go for Brabo from bottom half.

Blue Ali ... I got to High Guard ... could not progress... could not get Armbar but eventually had his arm trapped across centerline and swept.

So: High Guard, rolling side esc, kimura counter and octopus from half, huni and maybe x Guard and lasso guard sweep, Triangle from closed and side.

17.4 Thur AM 3964

Taps: 1. Total: 3964.

1st Hour  ... BB Joel -- Side Control Attacks / Papercutter Choke

I. Tech 1
 a. Kill the near arm: Kesa position my legs (hurdle-like), two on one the near arm towards mat.
 b. Straighten back up but with my top knee right against his armpit, killing the near arm. His arm should be on top of my thigh.
 c. Cross face with left hand. Right hand comes through his other hand, top of his bicep separating his hands.
 d. Temporarily link my hands. Cross face hand (left) snakes in front of him, thumb in grip. Cinch in grip tighter with my right, but don't let go of top choking grip.
 e. Tighten, and other hand pulls down on other collar like Basic Collar Choke 1 from the Back.

II. Tech 2
 a. If he doesn't tap, can go to Regular Paper Cutter.
 b. Other hand goes under his near arm, grips behind his head.

III. Can't easily kill Near Arm
 a. Go N/S momentarily -- left hand grips his belt, right hand checks his near hip.
 b. my right knee wedges in top of his bicep of near arm, my knee traps it against the mat.
 c. now all clear with Paper Cutter.

IV. Go to Mount -- Ezekiel
 a. Windshield his near Arm, switching from my right knee to left knee.
 b. Right leg goes over into Mount, whole time keeping the same Paper Cutter grip with the left hand, and elbow towards the mat, keeping his face looking up and NOT turned to the mat.
 c. Right hand goes behind his head and grabs my left elbow for the finish.

2nd Hour -- BB Chris
I. Basic Bridge and Roll ESC from Mount

II. Closed Guard - Double choke Counter with Double Armbar
 a. right hand over both his arms, cross to his wrist, my elbow down to lock in his arms.
 b. left hand crosses over to cross elbow to lock in.
 c. Open my guard to High Guard over both his shoulders, squeeze and lift my hips for finish.

III. Closed Guard - Can Opener Counter into Armbar.
 a. Get on my side, reach over his arms with my left to relieve some of the pressure.
 b. Reach with my right hand to underhook his thigh.
 c. Pendulum my legs, left leg comes in front of his face, Flip him over into Armbar.

Bonus: Open Guard Back Step Pass -- BB Chris.
Chris was watching Purp Tony and I rolling at the end and showed us two KEY DETAILS.
 1. Pull my lead foot half a step back (away from his butt) -- this allows space to pivot and Back Step.
 2. The GRIPs: Right hand cross collar thumb in (this prevents him from coming up after the Back Step); Left hand - same side knee/pants grip.

Working on:
1. Closed Guard - C. Light Triangle.
2. High Guard Corkscrew
3. Mount Tarsis Attack

4. Kimura Counter - Blue David and Purp Tony love to go to the Kimura from Half Guard Top.

5. Side ESC - Rolling and Recover Guard.

6. Huni Half Rollover Sweep

17.3 Tue A.M. still 3963

Taps: 0. Total: 3963.

BB Chris ... Self-Defense / Headlock Defense Series.

I. Posture Up
 a. Pivot outside foot back and go behind him

II. Can't Posture, Step In, Hip to Hip
 a. Squat, underhook his thigh, pick him up and Slam.
 b. If he holds onto Headlock, stabilize and balance with hands, step over and grind on his chin with my locked hands, shoulder pressure to break his grip.

III. Too Heavy to lift him, Step in front
 a. straighten my back leg behind him, grab at far knee
 b. Sit down and turn him

IIIb. He keeps turning and doesn't let you grab the knee
 a. Just sit down without it.

Second Hour ... BB Chris Seio Nage / Hip Throw.
 a. Footwork: pivot.
 b. My details (from Rickson): get my hip pressed against his hip. No space.
 c. Cross underhook, same side as the pivot foot, squat, bend knees a little and let my hips do all the work. (if there's space between hips, have to use all Upper body strength.)

** Nice entry setup from Blue Angelo, said someone showed him: Push the guy away, Pull him back and enter into throw. That automatically gets the hips right against his hip and there's momentum, too.

Must be New Year. Five or six White Belts. And a couple calling me out, and opening up a little cut and there's blood and I don't get to roll any upper belts. Damn!

Lockdown -- I'm so sick of getting stuck in it. Not a problem with Purple and below, but Brn Steve swept me with it. I am going to bring out the Lockdown Killer Slicer -- Nice Guy and the Douche Versions.

Work on:
1. Closed Guard / Corkscrew High Guard, Kick away Triangle, Overhooks
2. Side Esc
3. Passes / Faria Pressure and Bruchecha.

17.2 3963 at the Sunday Confessions

Taps: 2. Total: 3963.

Both taps to Brn Steve, who's a small guy like me. He transitions from KoB to KoB, side to side, is really tight, leading with knee and tucked in foot, hiding it so I can get it into Half Guard.

I was able to practice the Turtle Attacks and Roll to back that he showed in his class. Also, he got me with a Brabo from Half Guard Bottom, the same thing lil bro was talking about but didn't really show me. So I knew it was coming and defended but Steve swept me and I forgot he still had the grips. So he finished from the Brabo from Top.

BB Tarca showed a mind-blowing DETAIL on the BUTTERFLY SWEEP. Same grips: Underhook and other arm, BUT BUT, his secret detail: the off Hook leg shoots to the far side DEEP, kind of blocks that knee a little and that's enough to topple and sweep him.

Keep practicing:

  • Turtle to Ninja Roll to Back
  • Guard Recovery/Rolls
  • Side Esc
  • Guard Attacks: Corkscrew and Triangle

17.1 First session of New Year: 3961

17.1 (52 weeks in year. let's see how many sessions I get in the books).

Taps: 1. Total: 3961 at the Sunday Confession, Masters 2 Open Mat (36 and up).

Brn No name (forgot his name) ... super nice guy. Good details and tips.
-- Side Control: he said to just play, experiment with Pressure. I'll know when I have it right and heavy bc he'll want to move. Keep doing that to get info.
I've just been practicing killing near arm, trying to get under there with my knee and connecting elbow to knee on my way to Triangle. Not much luck swinging my leg over to lock in the Triangle.

-- Bow and Arrow finish: he said to keep the grip and my elbow DOWN, so there is no chance of escape as I get my bottom leg out. My elbow was flaring out just a bit, enough to get his head out. That really helped in my very next roll with Purp Ira.

-- Cross Choke from Mount: get deeeep with the first grip, and CURL my fist, into his neck, and ELBOW down on his chest. Second hand the same as I've been doing. Lean forward my forehead down on the mat, 1 o'clock, and EXPAND my chest on top of him.

BB Tarca --  I. Knee Cut, sits on down leg, grip and pushing into neck. Slick back step into Honey hole.

II. Turtle Choke ... overhook to far collar, second grip near collar (four fingers in), lay on left shoulder into a Half Guard (like finishing Guillotine) for finish.

Thoughts on Submissions. Expanding on Danaher and his controlling the other's body. And linking with Drills. I love drills. But no one talks about why drilling submissions and why they don't work live rolling. Obviously, drilling there is NO RESISTANCE. When live rolling, you need to get to that situation ... of no resistance by DOMINATING/CONTROLLING/IMMOBILIZING your opponent so that the only path is the way to your submission.

Octopus Guard from Half ... just realized I can connect that to the Rolling Back Take. My left hand is on his back, my left leg trapped. I come up, reach for his outside ankle, pull in as i push him over and Roll Over my Left shoulder. Gotta try it.
