Taps: 496

Taps: 4. Total: 496.

Techniques were of Open Guard review. Breaking grips and collar drag to the back.

Need to focus on just two things. Keep it simple.

Closed Guard (Bottom) - 1. Hip off mat; 2. Pull with legs. That's it. Just do those.

Half Guard (Bottom) - 1. 2 on 1 to prevent cross face; 2. Get underhook.

Drill - Closed Guard
1. Kid's armbar.
2. Rey Sweep.
3. Iron Hook set up.

Big holes discovered in Mount (top) and Side (top).

Taps: 492 (still)

Black Chris taught a couple of Open Guard techs.

Tech 1 -  Open Guard to Omoplata.

Tech 2 - If he postures up, triangle leg./ Armlock.
 1. Straight leg under his chin and under his armpit and go for armlock.

Finishing armlock -- pull opposite direction his thumb is pointing.

Private tip from Brown Vince. Half Guard (bottom) -- focus on thing to start -- preventing the cross face -- two on one on his arm; also make a triangle on his elbow. Work on that.

Transitions
I'm starting to see them way after class, late at night in bed or on the drive back home.
   A. In Half Bottom, I tried to grab his near leg and he stretched and sprawled and didn't let me get it. And I realized much much later that I had space to re-Guard. And it worked the next class.

   B. Trying for armbar from guard and I got stacked bad and tried a couple of things, but I should have tried to swing my leg around and go for Omoplata.

Closed Guard -- need more reps. Drills. Tried Rey Sweep. Iron Hook. Hip bump. Couldn't get anything.

Taps: 492

Taps: 1. Total: 492.

Brown Vince runs a private little class an hour before the regular class, and I've tried to come to that but I only make it to about half of it.

Tech. 1 - Counter to Double Leg Takedown.
*Guy gets you against the wall, and drops level and goes for Double Leg, head on outside.
1. R. hand pushes his head down, L. left reaches over his body and gets between his legs, against the inside of his left leg/knee.
2. Sprawl with my left hip forward, down -- this puts a lot of pressure and weight on him, will get him on his knees.
** If he counters by moving to his right to relieve pressure, his neck is open for RNC.

Tech. 2 - Counter for above (for the Takedown guy).
1. You're low and trying for Double Leg, he does above, you change level and go high and get Double Under on his armpits.
2. Then come back down and with my right leg, split out, stretch out his leg on same side.
3. My left hand ankle picks his other leg for the takedown.

Regular Class started and Brown Vince showed the Basic Collar Choke, Palm up -- the same choke from Closed Guard, Mount (top) and Half Guard (top).

There were a few finishing details that were new to me:
1. From Closed Guard - finish with my body/head on the same side as first grip. Also need to put his head down to my chest.
2. From Mount - if I can't finish, can't get his head of my chest, then put right leg up, and pull his head off the mat to my chest.
3. From Half Guard - put front leg up and bring him to me.

Misc Mount maintenance detail - Vince said to get higher so I don't get Upa'd and rolled. I need to review T. Dan's tutorial on the Roger choke from Mount. I just can't get the weight placement right and keep getting rolled.

Rolling with Blue Ivan - rolled a lot longer and controlled, kind of like with Bro Mike on the weekend. He's got good Spider grips and need to break them. And he had a good counter to my Deep Half, kept getting underhook and grabbing my other hand. Do I need to hide that hand?

Twice I was able to come out back door, but he swivel and he was back in Open guard. Twice he was able to control that arm. He did eventually get an armbar from top. That was my one tap.

Taps: 491 (stuck) and Private w/ Lil Bro

Just little bro and I on Sunday, and I wanted to work on Closed Guard (bottom) and Half Guard (bottom), and he really went over the Closed Guard. Ran out of time to get into Half Guard.

Closed Guard (when I get his arm across center line)
A. to Back.
   1. Break grip up and away, crunch my legs and break posture as I pull his arm across center line to my right as I hip out left.
   2. My right hand keeps grip on his right sleeve, and his shoulder tight to my chest (NO SPACE).
   3. Grab over his shoulder on his lat and hip out left -- that should collapse his base, his face, arm should be on the mat.
   4. Pull on his lat, and I should be on his back without even climbing over his back.

B. Lapel Choke
   1. From Step 3 above, my left hand that was grabbing his lat, reaches across his neck and grabs his gi.
   2. My right hand goes behind his head for the choke, like an Ezchiel.
Key: when feeding gi to my other hand, turn his gi UP.

C. from Lapel girp to Pendulum Sweep to Bow and Arrow Choke.
   1. If I can't get above Choke, keep the gi grip, pendulum my left leg, angle my head to the right and kick across for the sweep.
   2. Switch my right hand from his inside leg to outside leg, lean back for Bow and Arrow Choke.

Pendulum Sweep Details
** Need to drill: 1. get angle; 2. Swing left leg almost down to mat and then TUCK in that leg.

Misc Finish Details
1. Bow and Arrow Choke -- get grips and then lean back and use my body weight.
2. Triangle - 1, grab ankle right away to keep his posture broken; 2. Then get angle to lock it in; 3. Finish by grabbing behind my own knee and pull/squeezing in (rather than old school pulling behind his head).

General Half
A. Bottom
   1. Get Underhook; 2 Knee shield.
B. Top
   1. Get Underhook.
    2. If he gets underhook, pummel; or sit up, frame his shoulder, then get underhook.

** Details on my favorite Tripod Half Pass -- Mike said, I don't need to get so high with my hips or knee, just bring my knee up towards his chest, then slide. I do have a tendency to bring it high and then PAUSE, too. Bad. Bad. No Pause. Also, keep that knee off the mat, so he can't trap it in Half Guard.

Misc Kimura ESC detail
a. Finally got to ask him about the rest of this escape. I got half of it and for the longest time couldn't remember the rest, so I got stuck defending, but I couldn't fully escape.
   1. the guy goes for Kimura on top on my left arm and I'm on my Side, I RNC and grab my right bicep with the attacked arm, and my right hand locks into his Kimura grip, so that when he pulls up, he'll be pulling on my whole body.
   2. (this is the part I forgot) -- when he pulls again harder, and leaves a little bit of space, I wedge in my right knee against his bicep to either break the grip or better it, create space to pull out my elbow.
   3. Turn into him, and come out into a Single Leg takedown.

Taps 491

Taps: 4. Total: 491.

Tech 1 - Back Esc - Has Grips.
1. Sink back and up and shrimp out, but remember to control knee or he'll go to Mount.

Tech 2 - Back ESC 2 - Hasn't got Grips.
1. Scoot down like Saulo's ESC.
2. Get one hook off, scissor legs and come up.

Tech. 3 - Choke from Back w/ own gi.
1. I have one grip in but can't get second one. Same side, pull out my gi and grab it with the grip hand.
2. ie Right hand, plant right hand on mat, plant left foot and swivel, like an armbar, cross legs, squeeze legs and finish with my gi tightening on his neck.

Focus - Half Guard and Closed Guard.

Half - underhooks!!! and prevent cross face -- put hand on my head, get far underhooks.

Closed Guard - Rey Sweep and Flower Sweep.

Taps 487

Taps: 6. Total: 487.

Sundays are takedowns with Black Joel. And when it comes to standup game, I am a total White Belt.

Tech. 1 - Counter to Double Underhooks.
1. Put both hands on his hips, push and sprawl away and break his grip and get my own underhooks.

Tech 2 - Mount Escape.
1. Upa as I push on his hips and shrimp out and re-Guard.

Focusing on Half Guard -- and finally figured out I was not getting the Underhook, and that was why my sweep never worked, as I was getting too flattened out.

Focus - Closed Guard -- try the Rey Diego Sweep, off Andreh's DVD.

Focus - Deep Half - review Glover's DVD.

Focus -- Half Guard -- look at Caio's 111 techs DVD.

Focus - Mounted Triangle ESC - Blue Garrett kept getting me in that.
