Taps: 597 and Turtles

Taps: 4. Total: 597.

Pre-Class Seminar with Brown Vince.

Open Guard Posture.

  • When I lay down on back, have grips and one foot on his shoulder and other foot hook under his other foot just behind knee.
  • Don't let him get pass my knee on either side. If he moves to side of hook, just hitch and ride; if he goes other way, keep foot on shoulder or grab his ankle.
  • Or double hook with my legs and stretch him out. Or go for sweep by pushing on his hip.

1-2-3 Choke
A. Review of Basic Attack from Back.
     Choke 1 - Collar grip.
Choke 2 - he defends, and my second hand goes behind head.
Choke 3 - Bow and Arrow.

B. 1-2-3 From Side Control, when he's on his shoulder.
C. From Turtle
     a. Flatten him out with my hooks, then go to the chokes.

Review Vids -- Turtle ESC.

*Tried this and I ended on bottom of Side Control.

2. Drysdale's Turtle Reversal.

3. Saulo, i think has simple one i can't find. This kind of like this.

4. Can't leave Robson out of the Turtle party.

5.

For something diffrent -- Jared's Deep Half Choke from Top.

Taps: 593 / Head gear and Work

Taps: 3. Total: 593.

I'm working so I can pay for BJJ classes, BJJ-related injuries, DVDs and gear. Speaking of gear, I bought and rolled with headgear. Not too bad. Speaking of injuries, had my ear drained twice in a week. Not cheap.

The following vids are moves/techniques I want to keep in forefront.

1. Counter - Hip Bump Sweep.

2, Avellan MMA Pass and Hip Switch Pass.

3. GGBJ Standing Two on One Standing Pass. or as I call it, "The Thrilla Pass."

4. Omoplata Defense to Turtle

5. D. Asche (Gordo Butterfly Sweep).

*Guys always try to get a grip on my right knee. I'm going to cross grip that hand with my left hand, and my right hand will go over his back for the belt grip and try for this Butterfly Sweep.

Taps: 590 / Kesa ESC & Triangle

 Taps: 2. Total: 590.

A ton of newly minted Blues and Browns. I think there's almost a dozen Browns at the school now. And only about three White Belts.

Sunday Fun Day with Takedown drills and Open Guard drill (hook ride).

Focus on:

A. Kesa ESC
B. Back ESC.
C. Be cool to White Belts. Help them out.

Re-discovered ole Roy Dean. How could I forget about him? Here's his Kesa/Headlock Escape.

Then I realized I've forgotten how to do a Triangle. Not that I've ever pulled it off, but I couldn't even do it properly during the drill. So here's Roy again.

Latest Gracie Breakdown notes: Jacare Side Control to Kimura. I liked the Side maintenance concept (at 3:00 in)  -- arm/elbow on other side of his face; control outside leg so he can't Re-Guard even if he gets his inside knee on my belly.

Taps: 588

Taps: 2. Total: 588.

Tech. 1 - Standing Pass, Two on One.

Very similar to this vid, but simpler. Black Chris just pushed down on knee, and stepped back to get guy's hips back on mat to break the Closed Guard. Without the Michael Jackson and the banana move.

Into Tech 2 - Side Control Arm bar.
** His head is 12 O'Clock and my head 3 O'Clock.
1. My left hand/elbow over his dead, my right hand on mat on his near hip, blocking it; he has his Left Hand on outside my head, over my right shoulder -- that's the hand I'll trap and arm bar.
2. My right hand feeds my right side collar to my left hand, trapping his left hand, then my right hand goes back to blocking his hip.
3. Get North-South, my left knee on his left shoulder, lifting him and turning him on his side.
4. My right leg curls under his head, and I sit down for the arm bar.
** extra detail I picked online: Grab his hand, my palm to his palm, and his thumb so I can keep his thumb up for the finish.

Pre-Class with Brown Vince.
*Closed Guard Grip Fighting -- Guy tries to open guard, attack his neck with choke threats. Keep getting different grip, he can't break all of them.

** Jordan's Closed Guard to Back Take.

Focus: Back ESC - for the rest of the month.
Next Focus:
1. Side Control ESC.
2. Knee on Belly ESC.

Purple Chris has a wicked Bow and Arrow Choke and Knee on Belly. Ouch.

Reminders:
1. Don't Smash White Belts. Help them out.
2. Get my Submission Grips in Transition!.

2013 - Year 3: Taps 586

Taps: 2. Total: 586.  (Last Sat. Training.)

Tech - Turtle Attacks: Clock Choke 1 and 2.
** Sit on his shoulder and neck.
Tech 2 - Clock choke on the other side if he defends his neck.

Turtle Flip 1
1. Simple - grab gi and roll him over.

Turtle Flip 2
1. My outside leg sits on is thigh, roll him over into Bow and Arrow choke.

New Brown Mark.
2 Kesa ESC - both I've seen and tried but couldn't get to work.
A. Kurt O. just showed this, too.

B. Other is the Gracie one where you frame his face and get my leg over his face into armbar.

(at :40).

* Detail on armbar finish/break - grab my gi and lean my weight forward as I swing my leg over.

I. Rey/Xande Closed Guard Sweep. I get close but still can't get it. Here's Braulio showing it.

So I need to crunch up, and kick his armpit, and block his side with my left leg. (That's why I can't get this to work!).

version 2.

II. Closed Guard to Back Take. -- Can't get that to work either. Jordan's got one but Lil Bro Brown first showed me it, where I just shrimp out and roll him and take his back instead of the traditional climbing onto his back. Have to look it up.

*** work on Back ESC.

2013 - Here we go: Taps 584

Taps: 4. Total: 584.

First training of the new year on Jan. 2 -- Open Mat. New Brown, 2 new Blues and a White and I think I was tapped everyone.

Annoyed but not as bad as I once was. I mean that White, who was just trying out the place tapped me with a knee bar. WTF. But better to tap than risk injury, since he was just a kid and I didn't know him at all.

Focus List:
1. Back ESC
2. Side Control ESC.
3. Passes.
