Big Picture ... a la Mendelsohn, i will work my way backwards from Submission from MOUNT and Back.
sub from Back / Mount
Side Control to Mount / Back
Pass Half Guard to Side Control
Pass Open Guard or get sucked into Half Guard
Pass Closed Guard or get to Open Guard
ok, the MOUNT
1. Armbar
2. Cross Choke
of course, there are other options, other subs from Mount, but i need to spend couple of years on JUST these two to Master them.
3 Main Setups to Armbar (all lead to S Mount and Spiderweb)
1. Danaher - Crossface to rachet
a. break detail: get forearm under his WRIST.
2. N. Mendelsohn (see previous post) - Threaten Cross Choke
3. Rodolfo - Padlock both elbows / arms
a. High Mount, both feet on top of his hips, pressing down with my hips on his elbows touch the mat above his shoulders
2:40 Threaten the Choke -- gets his Elbow away from his body
4:09 when elbow comes away, bring my Knee against his Head, his elbow is stuck against my thigh/hip
4:20 my other Leg wraps Under his other armpit, L bracket,
4:50 switch hands, my Top hand wraps under arm i'm attacking, reach for my Lap/Thigh - key detail, hold this position throughout tech, his Elbow tight against my belly
5:45 Keep tight, legs PINCHED against his head, so he can't bring Elbow down to Mat, and if he can move his head away, then he has space to also bring his Elbow to mat
7:15 Underhook his leg
8:00 Pass my leg over his head, BEFORE my butt hits the mat, that's the last step
13:09 He needs 3 things to ESCAPE, if he can't get his elbow to mat / 1. able to SCISSOR his legs, turn and come up;
13:30 2. his HEAD has to come up; 3. my BACK has to touch mat
14:00 To prevent those 3 Things: a. grab his knee / b. that elbow posts on mat to keep my back off mat; c. stomp down to keep his head down
16:08 Armbar break / Rnc def ... lean back towards his feet, straighten my leg on his head, that will pressure his arm, and when i see his palm, then PALM STRIKE his Elbow
16:40 Palm strike hand is between his other hand, hug his arm before his can link hands.
17:20 Grab his WRIST and Thumb / palm strike hand comes over top of my own hand, keep his hand on my chest, my elbows down, pinch knees, keep his Thumb UP, lean back down
17:40 No space between his hand and my chest / if he doesn't tap, bridge up slowly
18:45 Other Breaks / grabs his own wrist - WRISTLOCK Break / holds hands together (GABLE GRIP), palm push/strike on his Palm
20:10 Links hands together ... i switch hands, go under his WRIST with other hand, get my bicep under his wrist, grab my collar / LEAN back towards his Feet
I. Cross Collar Cross Sleeve Grips set up
A. Rev. Scissor / Rev Butterfly Sweeps - to the right
II. 2 on 1 / 93 Shotgun Grips
A. Old Man Sweep / Hip Bump with Pulling Action, when he pulls back -- Trigger
B. If he doesn't pull back his arm -- Go to BACK
C. Flower Sweep, pull him in, make him light first
D. Triangle -- foot in bicep or shoulder
III. Palm Down Push into Hip Bump
References:
re: getting my hip CLOSE, sitting up on his Thighs
I. drill with Double Unders
a. use to have a hard time lifting the guy up, but that's bc i was not scooting my butt close enough.
II. Basic Sweep
a. get right side underhook
b. move to the that side
c. control his other side hand so he can't post
d. fall to that side as i lift with my hook and push off with non-hook leg
e. clear leg so i can come up in Mount
** my little tweak based on R. Hall's open elbow concept: no one is going to let you have that underhook, so push his head to that side, off balance and make him post that hand on the mat ... that will open up space to get my Underhook
III. Sweep 2 if he posts out his leg
a. And he pummels to Underhook to pressure pass on my Underhook side
b. Whizzard the underhook, underhook his leg and SWEEP in other direction.
The taps are coming in very slow lately. Been playing more offense, i guess. But BB Steve use to tap me three or four times a roll, and now he gets only one?
Love Telles' Dogfight/Turtle Lean Back Sweep vs the Knee Cut. Been getting me out of trouble a lot lately.
Very small turnout. Two new Brown, 2 Blues and me. So i was highest belt. Hate when that happens.
Still tapped to One armed, new Blue. He had a Arm Triangle from Mount, was cranking on my shoulder so i tapped to avoid injury. Thinking back, Mount ESC?? or even swing my lower body/core to unbalance him and create space to escape. For next time.
What worked:
1. R. Hall Kimura to Armbar
2. R. Hall Half Pass --new fav.
3. got the x guard sweep from yesterday a couple times and even the Back Take once on super passive Blue, who told me he was 48 and afraid of injuries.
4. old man hip bump
5. Collar snap down, using the tech stand up movement
II. cont. X Guard, lose the sleeve grip
a. get collar grip, pull down, stretch him with X
b. get leg over my face, Back Take
Random: Poor Brn Leer ... he's fairly new Brown, but still has an ego. he likes to go hard, and i know he went to the recent Danaher Seminar, and i was ready for all his leglock attempts. So he couldn't get too far into his leg pummeling and i was able to counter with Heel hooks.
Little does he know i was not a good person to try his new stuff on. Only because i have been rolling with real Leg Lock killers on Sundays for a few years now. I've developed a little bit of defense.
Slowly making my way through R. Hall Open Elbow DVDs ... expression of open elbow on Top -- Kimura, on bottom the Omoplata.
BB Tobias ... can't let him settle in on Side ... he's got over a 100 lbs on me. Very pinpoint weight pressure. Just killed all space and all hip movement.
BB Chris ... I. Review ... Closed Guard Pass wrap under (from Tues)
II. into N/S choke (from Tues)
III. DLR Pass
a. Switch grip to thumb in / palm down, other hook his leg and back step.
b. pressure down with my elbow on his chest/neck/just below chin as i back step.
Just love the R. Hall/MG Half Guard Pass ... this is going to be my main Half Pass
* detail with the foot on his top his knee is Gold!
BB Chris ... I. Closed Guard Pass ... trap the arm underneath
II. Transition to 45 angle to N/S Choke.
III. BB Vince ... Half Guard vs when they go Neg ... switch my legs a la Leite shovel and scissor to get bottom leg out and just come up on top. so easy.
Work on: Passing
i can open Close Guard standing, but then get in trouble from there half the time.
Something i've been thinking about: Keenan's cross pants grip, and when the bring the other leg around, grip under the ankle and do Telles Circle Pass to that side. Need to drill it though.
1. keenan cross pants
start @ 4:40
2. lo torreando / push knees, and TURN
Also, Tarca's Dlr to back. not sure if dlr extends or non-dlr kicks a la scissor sweep.
1. Purp Ira had nice Mount attack... when they defend by prayer position, pin bottom arm at the shoulder with my knee, top arm is now free for straight arm lock.
2. Tarca 1 — single x takedown vs Pass, in and around his lead leg, while I have ankle control with my hand, rolls into a heel hook or footlock.
3. Tarca 2 — Takedown: stiff arm cross collar grip, as he two on one to break it, move to side and sweep the leg as foot sweep or bring it to me to go into Single Leg.
4. Tarca 3 — slick dlr to Back / starting in standard dlr, ankle n collar grip, switch from collar to cross sleeve grip n off dlr foot on his hip / push n pull in close n lift him in air then Push/kick his leg on dlr side ... that will twist him onto his Back or to his side.
Work ... closed Guard, Side Guard, High Guard n Blue Guard
Side Control ... knee ride wiper to other side, seatbelt to the back
II. Elbow lead, back step to other side to the Back
III. Side to Mount with gi grip under his armpit
a. Swing leg over on other side of his thigh, after i switch base.
* All my taps to BB Z -- the toughest guy there, def top 3. lots of people scared to roll with him. he's big, strong and technical. he even call berimbolo.
there is a purp, can't remember his name, kind of a bully actually to lower belts, he's big and strong. don't think people like to roll with him so i always end up rolling with him. he can def injure people. he's bigger and stronger than me so i am wary with him. but today i finally feel like i've got the sitch in hand.
* keep working - ryan hall's open elbow and kimuras.
Side esc.
also, had a hard time finishing armbar from spiderweb -- Z says to go to Triangle.
