3321 and that ends the training for 2015

Taps: 2. Total: 3321.

Black Joel -- Closed Guard, double sleeves control, legs on hip, push and come up into Sit Up Guard Sweep.

var. 1 - if he breaks cross sleeve grip ... go for Single Leg.

Details from Black Vince -- if he goes staggered Stance, then DLR, push on other leg and come up to Sit Up. And Closed Guard - legs on hips will make him stand up.

Single Leg details -- over grip, grab his heel. Near hand - over top, grab crook twist down for the Takedown.

Counter - get Underhook and Knee Slide Pass.

Find go to: Half Pass, Side Control, and keep playing with Closed Guard Triangle and Armbar set ups.

Getting Posture Breaks, but need to progress from there.

3319

Taps: 1. Total: 3319.

Black Joel - lots of stuff but the few techs i do remember.

I. Open Guard Standing Pass -- grab both ankles, thrust up close, PINCH in my knees, and drop down ...

II. Triangle ESC -- posture, hug legs, get knee on mat, step over.

III. DLR Pass -- step back and back step into a reverse half, underhook the DLR leg, get in front of his face, clear into Side.

one tap to Blue Paul, who's a bit of a spazz but he was pulling on the Bellydown Armbar. Damn. I know how to escape this. I do. Walk back towards his head and hop over.

Need to watch the vid on this again a few times.

Working on:
1. Werdum Triangle.
2. Infinity Sweep / Shin Guard Sweep.
3. Giggler Half Sweep.

Thursday, December 17, 2015

3318

Taps: 4. Total: 3318.

Black Chris - Turtle Esc / Roll. Nice details ... trap arm, my near arm out, back leg back, then roll. Black Mike added more details to finish with pressure: both hands grab pants and push up.

Half Reverse Counter Lift to the Back. Near arm has to be inside, on his back, not caught going for other side Underhook.

Keep working:

Closed Guard - Triangle setups, Bump sweep, Pendulum Sweep.
Half Passes.
Side Esc.

2. Kesa ESC - when I can't get under him and he keeps moving away.
3. Closed Guard Triangle.
4. Half Pass - Lock it down. Use one or two tech only.

Thursday, December 3, 2015

Taps 3310

Taps: 4. Total: 3310.

Black Chris - drill: Stand to Guard Break, Kob, Backstep to Mount, Step out to Side Control.

Black Vince -- 2 Turtle ESC. Roll over.
 a. Also, protect the near side neck / Tripod if on my side or Sit Down into Half if he's on top with one hook.

Goal of rolling with all 5 Brown Belts in attendance today -- ACHIEVED. Along with Blue Morgan, Purple Wolf and Purple Jason.

Drill:
 1. Passing
 2. Omo ESC - faria
 3. Deep Half Pass
 4. Butterfly Pass
 5. Tilt Flower Sweep - BQ and Scully.

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Taps: 3306

Taps: 5. Total: 3306.

Blk Chris - Seoi Nage throw. Get hips outside.

Blk Vince - Half Pass.
*Triangle my leg. Chest pressure to kill the underhook. Into Mount.

Freaking Pb Webb got me in a Twister three times. Need to work on some Open Guard. I get a little lost when my Closed Guard stuff gets nowhere. I end up in nowhere land with Open Guard.

Drill:
 1. Faria's Omo ESC.

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Taps 3301

Taps: 5. Total: 3301.

Blk Mike ran some Passing Drills, then onto Free training.

I tried Roy's Half Pass and the Step Over Choke.

Could not finish:
1. Step over.
2. Marcelo's RNC from Side to Turtle control.
3. Drac Triangle.

Work on: Closed Guard - Lapel Flower Sweep and Octopus Guard and BQ Drag Bump Sweep.
And a solid Pass.

Also, Pur Doyle pulled off a nice Side ESC on me: Sit up with hand on hip, hand on chest collar push, and kicking up and down. Need to remember.

Thursday, November 26, 2015

Taps 3296 - Simi Turkey Day Roll Open Mat

Taps: 9. Total: 3296.

Prp Sky told me: 1. Stand to Pass; 2. Don't press in so close in my Pass. Which is the same thing Brn Mike told me. Need to vary my pressure, not be so predictable. That's why Sky kept catching my in Omoplata after Omoplata. And he kept on finishing with a wristlock as he had me in the Omo position.

Blk Kenny B kept getting me in Omo, too. He chose not to finish and kept sweeping me with it and catch/releasing/letting me roll out on the other side.

Random Blue Guy/Adam with long legs tapped me a couple times with a Triangle. Live and learn. Don't get lazy on defense. Don't underestimate the other guy.

Blk Marco was showing a nice Single X push sweep, when you can't get the second leg in for the X Guard. Second leg goes on the outside of guy's leg and push on thigh/knee.

Need to drill a few stuff from Roy Dean's Semi-Private... Half Pass and the Side to Swivel Armbar.

Saturday, November 21, 2015

Part 2: Saturday - Roy Dean Semi-Private

Just me and three others: Brn Chris, PB Web (who is friends with Roy and organized it), WB Mel.

1. Half Guard Pass - Elbow Block.
  a. Right hand on his bicep, that elbow on the mat pinning his left arm - which usually will come up and seek the underhook. The Elbow block keeps it pinned to the mat and him flat on mat.
  b. the rest is the same ... Knee Slide for the Pass. But he is now all Twisted up.

2. KoB Chain.
 A. Collar grip behind his neck - straighten, extend my hand to Crossface. Knee on Belly and when his pushes on my knee, GRAB at the ELBOW and pull up to my chest, get him up and on his side. Elbow Lift. And into Switch Armbar. Left hand on mat, switch/swivel.

var. Can't pull at Elbow -- pull Tricep/shoulder into me, my ELBOW digging high on his Chest/Sternum ... Left hand reaches, gets knee gi grip, step over DEEP by his waist and turn and sit into Switch Armbar ... as I'm sitting down SLIDE my hand along his arm to get to his wrist.

3. Armbar Breaks - his head at 9 O'clock, feet 3 O'clock, attacking his Right Arm, my feet facing 12 O'clock.
 A. Wrist Grap
   i. My left hand gets under his right arm, and reaches as far as I can to my right waist, creating Tension.
ii. Right hand underhooks his right leg as I fall to the right, which lets him come up.
iii. My right hand grabs his left wrist to separate his hands for the Finish.

B. Knee Tilt
  i. If I can't reach his wrist, my left leg makes a Z, knee pointing to the right, feet to the left, under his neck, chest, PUSH on neck, SCRAPE against his top chest ... that will get the BREAK.

4. Step Over Choke (from Side Control)
 i. Brabo gi grip with left hand under his head.
ii. come up KoB with right knee briefly, then slide across his chest and over his arm, pinning his right arm.
iii. Take big step over his head with the left foot, then inch with the foot against his head/ear.
iv. FINISH: foot against his head and straighten Brabo, turn in the wrist.

Counter 1: Blocks the step over and pushes away ... let him push and extend his hand ... my Brabo grip hand catches his wrist and puts it all the way back for Kimura. If he straightens out of Kimura, pull his triceps and var. ARMBAR above.

Counter 2: Pushes step over leg ... bring that hand across, reach deep with Brabo grip hand ... get to other side for ONE-HANDED ARM TRIANGLE ... get pressure HIGH on his chest. Also, if he Telephone Defends, pull wrist for WRISTLOCK.

5. Bow and Arrow Choke (from the Back)
 i. Left hand opens left side collar, feeds to the Right. Does not have to be deep, chest level. Right hand grip twists in, with THUMB DOWN against chest, all other fingers going away from his body.
ii. Left hand grips at the knee.
iii. Left ELBOW FALLS to the left on the MAT -- that gives me space to swivel and get my right leg over his shoulder to lock legs and finish.

** to Make it even TIGHTER ... shrimp out, press/push my right knee against his shoulder instead of locking my legs together; ALSO, I can press my right knee behind his back and PRESS.

6. Mount into Bow and Arrow Choke
 i. Drag arm across, chest pressure to get S Mount.
ii. Left hand gets collar choke grip.
iii. Can finish from top by straightening, extending choke grip or can go to regular Bow and Arrow, grabbing pants grip, lean back etc.

7. Closed Guard Passes
 LOW PASS - i. right hand headlocks, left hand controls right tricep;
ii. sprawl to the left, then Kesa right leg under left.
iii. Left leg HOOKS his leg to stretch him, my right leg slides through for the Pass.

KNEE PINCH
 i. When I feel him opening his guard a little, right hand grabs pants grip, PALM DOWN, staples his leg to the mat.
ii. Step over that leg, PINCH MY KNEES over his KNEE tight, and keep my LEFT LEG UP, to prevent his locking up Half Guard.
iii. Right knee presses inward, left leg steps out, right leg presses into this hip for the PASS.

** if he locks in Half Guard, press right knee in, Windshield my left leg over his and get the PASS.

Taps: 3287

Taps: 3. Total: 3287.

BB Chris - Knee Slice Pass.
 a. Right hand grips near collar grip, elbow down to prevent UNDERHOOK.
 b. Left hand picks up his near hand, gets him flat.

PB Wolfie - Armbar Break ... climb the ladder, hand under hand til I get to his wrist.

BB Len - Need help with my top Side Control. I can kill the near arm, but if/when they get their arm back, I'm lost and they usually escape. Need to go to my next move.
Also, he said Don't leave my arm hanging out there.
There's only 3 places my hands should be: 1. Prayer positon; 2. Framing shoulder; 3. on his hips.
Framing shoulders ... Shrimp and get knee in.

Postion Drills - practicing that Knee Slice, but I got lots of practice on my Leite Half Guard. Sweet.

Onto my Part Two of BJJ Saturday.

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Taps 3284

Taps: 7. Total: 3284.

BB Vince - Closed Guard Lapel Flower Sweep.
 a. gi tail wraps over his back, break posture.
 b. as he posts on my chest to push back, get his right arm across center line.
 c. my right hand dives under his left thigh, and get my HEAD perpendicular.
 d. open legs: right leg under his arm pit, left leg swings out to the left then back into him for the sweep.

var. -- if he posts his right leg up to prevent the sweep, switch to Armbar.

II. Turtle escapes N/S. Peak head out, sit down/out. Grab leg with outside hand for the single.

Half Tails Sweep -- getting it more but higher belts have been able to spin and recover. I end up Half Top or even Side Top, but they are able to square up to me.

Good to see my buddy Purple Webb back from injury. He kicked my ass as usual, but not as efficiently as before because he's rusty and his timing's off a little. Still he got me with a Kneebar, heel hook, and Twister.

He also showed my a Side Turtle to Crucifix hack/shortcut that Baret Yoshida showed him. Starts just like the Marcelo vid with side Turtle and Seatbelt grip, but whereas MG uses front leg to scoop in his arm and traps it with both legs and goes for RNC, and Aesopian rolls over the guy's back to other side to Crucifix ... Baret's shortcut is to use front foot and just LAY IT over the guys wrist and lay down into the Crucifix position.

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Taps 3277

Taps: 7. Total: 3277.

BB Chris - Closed Guard Scissor Sweep to Mount Cross Choke.
  * Choke details: first grip DEEP; connecting thumbs behind his neck.

BrB Izzy and BrB Chris smashing me in Side Control by crushing on my far arm/elbow. BrB Chris showed me how, with chest pressure on back of his elbow, let him turn and got to modified Mount and Giftwrap.
I've been focusing on killing the near arm. Didn't think of killing the far arm/elbow. It's pretty demoralizing.

Closed Guard
 1. Braulio Posture Break - success.
 2. Drac Triangle - getting to close to High Guard. Stuck there.
 3. BQ arm drag - no luck.

Half Guard - review Leite's counter to Knee Slice. Got Knee Sliced a lot today.

Saturday, November 14, 2015

Taps: 3270

Taps: 7. Total: 3270.

Focus:
1. Side ESC - Harpoon.
2. Mount ESC
3. add KoB esc.

Brn Dean - doing better dealing with his Butterfly Guard and his Loop Choke. Only got caught once in Loop and even Passed his Butterfly once. Took his Back, no hooks, got shucked off. Need to review MG Back attack.

More Closed Guard -
1. BQuick - Arm Drag
2. Firas' Triangle
3. Braulio Posture Break.
4. Drac Triangle.

Monday, November 9, 2015

Taps 3263

Taps: 2. Total: 3263.

BB Joel - Stick Strike Defense - Standing Americana, Kimura, Whizzer/Guillotine Snap down.

II. Triple Threat Back Attack - a: Bow and Arrow Choke.
All starts with trapping his arm.
 b. Behind head Choke
 c. Arm bar.

BrnB Dean has two attacks: Butterfly Guard and Loop Choke. I'm finally able to deal with his Butterfly hooks, but still getting caught in his Loop Chokes. Need to deal with his Cross Collar grip.

Closed Guard Triangle - tweaks.
 a. right leg across the back. Break posture, pull head down or bring my legs in/crunch.
 b. get his arm across. Get myself at angle.

Keep working: Leite Half. Even getting the roll under sweep.

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Taps: 3261

Taps: 2. Total: 3261.

Feeling lazy, not feeling it, not wanting to go to class. Wanting to just sit there and watch jits videos on YT. Then finally realizing I could always do that, but I can't train all the time. So the choice was easy. Go Train. And once again, glad that I did.

BB Chris - I. Side Control to S-Mount Armbars.
 a. kill the near arm

II. Mount to Arm Transfer, S-Mount Armbar. or Switch Armbar.

Side Control Top -- all I'm concentrating on is: 1. Cross face; 2. Killing the near arm -- scooting down on his hips, getting him on his side and creating room under his near elbow and THAT's where I get my knee in to kill his near arm. (with White Belts, I could slide my knee down his body, then back up and wedge in between his elbow and open it up and get it that way.)

** From there: I could either Mount or go for Triangle or Baseball Lapel Choke.

Drill:
1. Twitch Pass
2. Harpoon Roll.
3. Braulio Armbar

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Taps: 3259

Taps: 7. Total: 3259.

BB Chris - Deep Half to Double knee in Sweep.

Brn Izz - Deep Half Leg Lift Sweep.

BlB Morgan kept getting me with that Leg Lift Sweep. Izz said I should counter with Kimura. Also, Brn Chris showed how tricky Deep Half is: top guy sits down -- roll into him for the Sweep; top guy leans forward a little -- come out the back.

Also, PB Jason said to keep my right hand back in Half Guard and Sit Up Guard. Keep it back and out of the way.

Braulio Posture Break works like a charm ... need to remember to: knee on hip, push/fold in his elbow as I pinch in with the knee and High Guard.

Side Control ESC 11.15
1. Harpoon
2. Elbow Push
3. Sit Up and hook in
4. Knee in Re-Guard.

Saturday, October 31, 2015

Taps: 3252

Taps: 6. Total: 3252.

BB Chris - Double Leg, lift up and toss to side. I sucked at the picking up. I prefer to cut the corner or do outside reap on the leg.

II. Combat Base counter - DLR hook, scoop up and knee cut the other knee and go for Cross Collar Choke.

Focus:
1. Side ESC - Roll Over.
2. Half Guard - Leite.

Saturday, October 24, 2015

Taps: 3246

Taps: 7. Total: 3246.

BB Chris - Footlock review.

Almost got it on Brn Dean. Couldn't finish. And only passed his Butterfly Guard once, a jump over. Need to maybe smash his knees to one side first? Or look at Kesting's Twitch Pass again.

Closed Guard - keep forgetting about Flower Sweep. Also, drill Shoulder Push Omoplata.

Escapes - Side - Sit Up.

Half Guard - Leite.

Passing - from BB Bond: Stand to pass. Get my grips. Get my Distance (so he can't get grips or put his feet on my hips or get hooks). Then pass to either side.

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Taps: 3239

Taps: 6. Total: 3239

BB Chris - review of Leglock / Kneebar from Tues.

II. Sit up Guard Gi Tail Wrap to Single.
 a. Inside leg (non-DLR foot) hooks, scoops up the foot as I come up.

Tried the Braulio High Guard Armbar on Brn Chris. He was too tight on me and protecting his arm, but I manged to switch to Omoplata. I tried to turn him over and when I did, he took my back in the scramble. Hmmph.

Brn Armam showed me a nice setup to the Omo -- right foot on his shoulder, push and turn his body and go into the Omo. I guess I can also go for the Triangle, too.

As BB Bond keeps telling me, Stand to Pass. Stand to Pass. Stand to Pass. Keep getting Butterfly Swept and Scissor Swept.

At least, when I'm rolling I can forget about the other crappy things in my life. My job being at the top of the list.

What to drill next? what to drill?

Escapes, Closed Guard, Passing.
Escapes, Closed Guard, Passing.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Taps: 3233, and my Curriculum

Taps: 4. Total: 3233.

Wasn't feeling it this morning, didn't feel like going to class. But I'm glad that I did. Felt so much better during and after. Must have sweated off all the crappy feelings.

BB Chris -- Footlock from Open Guard Top.

Misc: Mild success with Leite Half, but need to tweak the Sit Up ESC ... after I sit up, hip out a little and get a hook in.

Need a couple of Turtle Attacks: tried the Kimura flip on Blue Morgan, nothing doing. Not sure if he was based too well, too heavy or if I was really committing to it by really flipping over him. Anyway, Helicopter Choke and Juji Armbar might be worth looking into.

My Curriculum (5-6 years)

I. Self-Defense/Escapes
II. Closed Guard
III. Passing

And each heading will take me down so many paths:
 Self-Defense
 a. punch defense (standing and inside Guard)
 b. headlock defense
 c. bearhug from behind
 d. choke from behind

Escapes
 a. Mount
 b. Back
 c. Side Control
 d. Turtle

Closed Guard
 a. Sweeps
 b. Submissions
 c. vs. getting Guard Opened

Passing
 a. Closed Guard
 b. Open Guard

Just to here will take up up to middle of Purple Belt.

And eventually, Open Guard (sweeps and subs), and Half Guard (top and bottom). And then, Maintaining each of the positions, and then, only then, Submissions from each of the positions.

Saturday, October 17, 2015

Taps: 3229

Taps: 1. Total: 3229.

BB Joel -- I. Half Spider X Sweep (baiting him).

II. Spider Pass - step over.

III. Spider Pass 2 - Thrust forward, into a Over/Under cross choke Pass.

Lots of White Belts in house. Must of had a Groupon.

PB Pierre the Nightmare had me in Kesa for the longest f'ing time. But at least he couldn't submit with his usual shit. Not happy though that I couldn't escape. If it was the Street, there would have been lots of punches raining down on me while I was stuck there.

Back to Kesa ESC -- Kesting?

Bonus: BB Jason was showing a Berimbolo from Closed Guard top. Roll into it as soon as he opens his Guard. Never seen it from that position before.

Working the Leite Half Guard and Sky Pass. Could not get out of Side Control from Upper Belts. Couldn't do the two-on-1 from the Seminar and completely forgot about the Sit up Escape.

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Taps: 3228 and Renato Magno Seminar

Taps: 6. Total: 3228.

Seminar -- 2 on 1 Tie (aka Russian Tie).

1. From Stand up
  a. getting to the side, countering Double Leg shoot
  b. walking into him, pulling to various Takedowns.

2. Side Control Bottom
  a. ESC with 2 on 1 Tie
  b. Kimura grip ESC
      i. Details: a) get on my side; b) don't let him step over my face; c) big Upa as he pull his arm back
  c. BB T. Bond - roll over sweep / shoulder grab, get on side, on elbow then butt in the air and flip him over.

3. from Closed Guard: arm drag to 2-on-1.
  a. tech stand up and come over on other side w/ arm twist
  b. if he grabs my leg and can't get out, push forward and he falls over.

II. Passes - Spider Guard

After: food and drinks ... which i skipped to roll. I can always find food. Partners to roll are harder to come by.

Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Taps: 3222

Taps: 4. Total: 3222.

BB Chris.

Tech I - Reverse DLR, hook to a roll over sweep.

Tech II - Open Guard to X Guard.
Details: left hook, right over, but knee inside. Really hook with the left, and stretch them out.

III - X guard to armbar, if they stay close.

IV - Cross their arms, Scissor Sweep to the top arm side.

Some luck with Leite's Half Guard: coming up but having trouble rolling the other way. Gotta keep working it and keep it in the Toolbox.

Saturday, October 3, 2015

Taps: 3218

Taps: 2. Total: 3218.

BB Chris - DLR Pass. Step over and sit on non-DLR leg. Go to the right and staple the DLR. Cross face and back step to the DLR side.

Still need work on: Passing - Faria and Sky Pass. And try to work in the Double Under Knee Up.

Closed Guard - Braulio's posture break and armbar. Or remember to duck under, underhook the leg, too.

Saw a cool 2-on-1 Butterfly Guard series from Xande. Try to work on that soon.

Try to not use so much energy. Chill.

Man, Brown Dean has such a tough Butterfly Guard. Have such a tough time passing and even getting to Half Guard, he's so squirelly, he just re-Guards easily. Damn.

Lots to work on.

Update:

Saw lil bro brown at dinner and asked about Butterfly counters.

I. Half Hop movement into the sweep as he tries to sweep you.
II. Pass - push him flat, get tight, and two on one on his leg; fall hip first heavy over his knee and come up to knee again for the Pass.

Drill both.

Saturday, September 26, 2015

Taps: 3216

Taps: 9. Total: 3216.

BB Chris - Open Guard Star Sweep.

I. Start from open guard, with other guy standing, like you're going to do a Balloon Sweep.
  a. underhook the ankle, roll over the shoulder and get outside and next to him.
  b. lean into his shin, just below knee and he falls.
  c. scoot back into him and come up into Reverse Side.

Misc:
 A. Need to work on ESC from weak side, esp Kesa ESC.
 B. Techs need to be tighter, esp against stronger, bigger Blues.
 C. Work on Half Guard, bottom. Don't get lazy and go for Lockdown.

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Taps: 3207

Taps: 4. Total: 3207.

BB Chris.

Couple of review techs, and new one - Arm-in Guillotine if they shoot in for Single. Get under the chin, sprawl and get angle, step over his head, sit back.

Realized BB Chris kept getting an Overhook Butterfly Sweep last time we rolled. Must try to get that in my toolbox.

Getting a little better with Closed Guard, although Purple Gilles got a nice sweep from his Closed Guard: High Guard with his long legs and when I lifted my leg, he got under and nice, and easy and slow, he Flower Swept me.

Passing - still working on Faria Pass. Better luck with the Sky Pass, although must remember to re-direct to Leg Drag at the end of the tech.

Half Pass and Deep Half - still giving me fits. On Blues and below - Knee Cut; anyone higher or good at getting the Underhook ... go for Danaher Pass.

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Taps: 3203

Taps: 10. Total: 3203.

BB Chris aka Coach.

I. Hip Bump to Omoplata.
  a. omo the other arm as the hip bump side.

II. var. from Omo - push over/kick over and roll him onto Side Control.

Got to roll with Coach twice - that usually never happens. Although second one was quick tap to a standing ankle lock.

Overall, not that great a session. Wouldn't say I sucked, but was in that ballpark. Looking for some EXCUSES, but I can't seem to find any.

No luck with the Faria Pass. I need to work on the Sky Standing Pass.

Saturday, September 12, 2015

Taps: 3193 and a Nap for the First Time

Taps: 11. Total: 3193.

Br. Arman -- Basic DLR Pull Down Sweep.
 a. push away with right leg / sit up / pass sleeve to other hand under his legs / pull down with right hand.

II. Half Top / Back Step to the Back.
 a. Right hand under his head, back step with left.
 b. control his top knee, scoot out, get knee out.
 c. swing other leg back over, and now in quarter guard with ankle still stuck.
 d. Seatbelt grip and roll him other side to take the Back.

BB Mike - DRL Pants grip Sweep / Push Pull (*grip on pants rather than ankle grip)
 a. push with front leg, pull with hook.
 b. get under and grip under his knee a la X Guard.
 c. inside right leg against his other knee, across his knee.
 d. DRL hook comes out and pushes on that same knee and come up for the Sweep.

II. DLR Pants grip Simple Sweep.
 a. push with front leg, then DLR hook goes on his hip.
 b. other foot hooks behind other leg.
 c. Push on hip and he falls because i also have the pants grip.

Rolling:

New guy, Blue Nick (three or four stripes) - last time, he tapped me with basic Triangle, then we got stuck in his 50/50 as i defended his toeholds, footlocks and kneebar attempts. Today, again stuck in 50/50 and he couldn't get a toehold, but as I rolled around he got me with an ANKLE LOCK. Still sore.

Time has come to learn how to deal with 50/50.

Blue Tony -- scrambling and he got a gi wrapped around my neck and I tapped the mat and he didn't see it because he was facing other way, and next thing I know I'm DREAMING and can't remember how I got there and I wake up and all the guys are freaked out.
I must have been out for 10, 15 seconds and having mini-seizures. First time for everything. I can't remember what I was dreaming about.

Still rolled a couple of times after that.

Lesson of the day: Tap harder, louder and if possible on the guy.

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Taps: 3182

Taps: 2. Total: 3182.

BB Chris - Footlock on DLR.
  a. normal grip to inside hand grip.

II. Review of Kimura counter from Half Guard Top.

Rolling with Purple Josh - only thing keeping me going was him huffing and puffing because he's been out for awhile. Knowing he was gassing, thought i could go as long as he could.

He swept me a couple of times with the same roll from Turtle and even from Side and realized I need to jump to the other side Before he rolls me that way.

Man, and not quite getting past Blue Morgan's Deep Half. Need to work on that.

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Taps: 3180

Taps: 6. Total: 3180.

BB Chris - Open Guard Passes.
  Knee Cut.

I. Right Knee up, get legs outside the guy, sit down tight (no room for DLR hook).
 a. Grips: left on bottom of his pants; right gi by the stomach, palm up.
 b. when ready, switch grip to knee and get push down to mat as I wiper / Knee cut.

   Long Step vs. DLR
I. grips: left - switch from knee to under his knee; right - switch to other collar/chest palm down, thumb in.
II. Back step, long step.

Half Guard Top - Kimura counter.
 a. grab my knee between my legs.
 b. right hand push down on his top knee.
 c. reverse sit, hip down and top of his elbow of Kimura grip.
 d. Get Kimura of my own.

BB Vince - Side Attacks.
 I. Start with Paper Cutter threat -- his head at 9 o'clock, feet pointing at 3 o'clock; I'm facing him, left hand crossface, right down by his hips/legs.
  a. right hand underhooks far arm, my hip sits on his near arm; left hand threatens Paper Cutter (sub #1) ... he gets his near arm out and defends.
  b. Left leg steps over his head and lifts him on his with my right underhook hand.
  c. Left leg tucks under his head and keeps it in place; switch underhooks, from right hand to left hand and secure Kimura ... finish by torquing his hand behind his back (sub #2) ...
  d. He defends by getting himself back flat on his back ... fall on my left shoulder, scissor his head with my legs and finish with leg choke (sub #3) -- crook of my right back of knee under his neck.

  e. he comes up, my left leg on his head, right leg swings over for the Step Over/Sit down Kimura (sub #4).

Also, a Half Top Choking series -- from Knee Cut, can't get ankle out ...
  a. get Knee back on belly, and over to the other side, turning him on his side.
  b. push down his collar, pass it to other choking hand under his head and got to 1-2-3 Choking Series from Half Top (which is usually done from the Back). 1 - collar choke; 2 - 2nd hand behind head; 3 - Bow and Arrow.

Cool Pass Vid I saw -- Leg Drag to Step Over Pass and I can't find where I also saw a Knee Cut to Step Over Pass.

** Keep getting swept attempting the Faria Pass -- need to get more perpendicular?!

Taps: 3174

Taps: 3. Total: 3174.

Pass positional drills, then into Open Mat.

Work On:

from Half Guard / Side Bottom -- PREVENT CROSS FACE.

from Side Top -- Kill his hip, come back and Kill near arm.

Passes - Faria Over/Under and Sky Knee Cut.

Saturday, August 29, 2015

Taps: 3171

Taps: 3. Total: 3171.

BB Chris.

I. Basic Butterfly Sweep.
  a. getting ankle, getting way to side and front.

II. Deep Half from Knee.
  a. diving in with leg and arm.
  b. hiding left hand, feeding lapel and coming up.

Fails:

1. G roll -- not crossing my legs.
2. Half Guard - ninja roll.
3. Yuri belt roll -- maybe because i tried it on BB Chris.
4. Step over kimura.

Success:
1. Mount to Triangle - he got his hand under my leg, so i just went for it.

Need to work on:
1. Go to - Closed Guard. Pick one or two - drill and keep going for those. Maybe two on one Armdrag? or High Guard, Side Guard. Underhook Bump Sweep, Lapel Bump sweep, yeah, maybe that.

and Curu Curu.

Taps: 3168

Taps: 3. Total: 3168.

BB Vince.

My takedowns suck. Try to stick to Underhook Knee/Ankle Tap.

I. Kimura Counter from Top of Half.
 a. Press on hip and knee to pop my knee out; if he doesn't release my leg, put that knee on the mat on the right and proceed to Mount.
b. He releases, then i've got the Pass into Side Control.
c. Get my right knee tight against his belly, lift my left leg and swing/step over his head, put it under his back, my knee under his arm pit and sit down for my own Kimura Armbar.

Finally, understand how to do the Kimura Step Over/Sit down from last week. Basically, sitting down on the opposite side as the Kimura armbar.

i. his head is at 3 o'clock, feet pointing towards 9 o'clock, and i'm attacking his left arm.
ii. I lock in Kimura grip, and regular Armbar, I would sit down at 6 o'clock. But Step Over/Sit down, I swing my right leg over his belly, and sit down ON THE OTHER SIDE of his head (his head is at 6 'o clock and i'm sitting down at 4 o'clock.).

That's the position I had Brown Chris and I couldn't finish, because I needed to sit back a little to create separation between his hand and his body, then a little twist for Finish.

More Fails:
1. Casablanca lapel bump sweep -- could not pass over to my left hand. Good news - I was able to keep it wrapped over his elbow, and pulled and got his hand across center line. Hipped out a little, had High Guard briefly, went to Side Guard, and bumped sweep, came up on top but in Half Guard.

2. Deep Half Pass - i get the underhook and get stuck there. Sit up and swing free leg over his head.

3. Curu Curu.

4. G roll - not creating separation.

Saturday, August 22, 2015

Taps: 3165

Taps: 4. Total: 3165.

BB Chris:

I. Turtle Maintenance.
  a. Heavy, chest pressure. Move around, side to side from back - NOT in front, Not N/S.

II. Turtle Flip
 a. ole behind triceps, grab far ankle and chest pressure and push him over.

III. Turtle to Bow and Arrow.
 a. from left side, right hand under his arm and open gi.
 b. left hand (in front of his face) grabs that open gi.
 c. right foot steps over to the right of him, pulling gi grip turning him into Bow and Arrow position.
 d. right hand grabs pants grip.

Fails:
1. G Roll.
2. Ryan Roll from Side Top.
3. ESC of armbar -- got his leg between mine, but still tapped. Didn't remember rest of Ryron ESC sequence.
4. Curu Curu.
5. Faria Over/Under Pass.
6. Butterfly Pass.
7. Keenan Cross Choke - forgot to turn his face with top hand. Turn on his chin, then get under his neck.
8. Sit Up esc (review) - if they're holding my legs.
9. Step over/Sit down Kimura.

Review: Baby Sky Pass (knee cut re-direct) - find time to drill it.

Thursday, August 13, 2015

Taps: 3161

Taps: 3. Total: 3161.

Got BB Vince to show me the Step Over/Sit Down Kimura from N/S and from Half Guard Top.

Basics:
1. My hand grabs opposite wrist, and my other hand goes under his and grabs my wrist, ie. my left hand goes under his left, my right grabs his left wrist, etc.
2. Keep his head between my legs to prevent escape.

N/S - facing his feet, attacking his left hand.
 a. my right hand grabs his left wrist; my left goes under his left.
 b. Move to left, get him on his side, step over his head with my right leg. Keep his head between my legs.
c. Right leg down, left leg up, then hook under his head, then put left leg down as i swing/step right leg over his hip and sit down for the finish.

from Half Guard Top
 a. he goes for underhook, my right hand grabs wrist, left hand goes under that hand, locks in Kimura Grip.
 b. Base forward, put head on the mat and sprawl left leg out (both of these prevent getting rolled).
 c. Get left leg over and under his head, and fall down on my left hip.
 d. Free the right leg from Half and swing it over for the finish (like above).

BB Vince also addressed some holes/weaknesses in my game he witnessed my rolling.

Hole 1 - not dealing with the Cross Collar grip. Solution: Grab both pants grips and STAND UP.

Hole 2 - Getting Triangled as I pass. Solution: Control bottom leg better, and when i let go, put that hand across his face and under his head. I usually go for the cross face, and get almost armbarred or they triangle their legs over my head for my troubles.

Hole 3 - from Side Control, if they prevent the cross face with their hands, Step over with my leg; same deal if they triangle my head or try to armbar me from that position.

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Taps: 3158

Taps: 3. Total: 3158.

BB Vince. He's back.

I. Grip strategies. Don't make the same grip as other guy. Get over grip.
  a. He tries Trip - either outside or inside - i can steer wheel and take down.

II. Turtle Top
 a. Keep pressure down on his head with my chest, and keep his butt down. When butt comes back up, i can turn him over to side.

III. Stand up - Duck under and double Counter. And counter if he's got my back even.
  a. Outside trip. Got my back, trip high.

IV. Mount to High Mount to S Mount Armbars (either side)
 a. grabbing both arms.
 Good review.

Bonus: Step over / Sit down Kimura from top Half and N/S. Wicked. Need to ask him about it next time.

Working on:
- Closed Guard: attacking weak left arm, arm drag to Side Guard / work the Flower Sweep. Also, work on the High Guard, too.

Misc:

Jeff Rockwell on different training: training for longevity has to be fun -- that whole Keep It Playful movement of Ryron. Otherwise, I'm not going to last.

Also, Side ESC -- shrimp, hip escape. Shrimp, shrimp, shrimp. Don't even need the Bridge, just shrimp shrimp shrimp, says BB Vince.

Saturday, August 8, 2015

Taps: 3155

Taps: 5. Total: 3155.

BB Chris -- Half to Deep Half to X Guard Sweep.
 a. from Deep, get under/over with my legs on his trapped leg.
 b. He stands, go to X Guard.
 c. Pull him down and come up for the Sweep.

II. Instead of coming up, get his leg over and take the Back.

Working on:

1. G Roll.
2. Triangle from Mount.
3. Closed Guard Armbar / Sweep.

Sunday, August 2, 2015

Still 3150

Taps: 0. Total: 3150.

BB Joel. Mount Attacks.

I. Arm bar:
 a. He pushes on hips, underhook and spiderwalk hands up all the way (right side).
 b. Right knee goes all the way near his ear where his hand was.
 c. Pick up his other hand and get left leg under his armpit -- S-Mount.
 d. Grab both arms together and go for Arm bar.

II. Triangle.
 a. same set up.
 b. But, instead of S-Mount under his arm, get left leg over arm and under his head.
 c. Right hand grabs that left ankle behind his head for head control and roll.
 d. Lock Triangle from bottom.

III. Arm Triangle.
 a. Rather than spiderwalk and getting his hand all the way up, get his hand over to right.
 b. Chest pressure, and lock hands and jump off into Side Control for the finish.

IV. Gift wrap to the Back.
 a. Get arm/elbow across centerline, then with chest pressure, keep it there.
 b. Right hand under his hand and grab gift wrap, other hand presses on elbow for better control.
 c. Sit up, and left leg is there and he'll most likely take Half Guard.
 d. But that is also Half a hook for me. Roll to other side and take Back and get second hook in.
   i. if he defends hook, trap his hand with my leg.
ii. if he has hands up to defend choke grip, easy to get hook in.

Fail:

1. Bruschecha Rolling Armbar -- ended up in Half Guard.
2. Half Guard G Roll -- he pressed his weight forward.

Random thoughts:

Got partnered with a newbie White Belt. I ask how long he's been training. Just started BJJ, but he's been training MMA for four or five years at our school. I say I've been at our school for that long. He couldn't get out my Mount or Side Control. Hard not to think that he maybe should have been training BJJ the whole time, he'd be a Purple Belt and could do more stuff on the ground.

I could be wrong.

Thursday, July 30, 2015

Taps: 3150

Taps: 4. Total: 3150.

BB Chris - techs.

I. Squat Pass.
 a. Sleeve grip (right hand); left hand grips pants on same side, right side (his left leg).
 b. From squat position, stand up and step back as pull with both hands.
 c. He should turn like steering wheel and I get Kob for the pass.

II. Butterfly Step Back Pass
 a. Right hand reaches over and grips collar behind his head.
 b. Left hand reaches between his legs and grabs right pants grip.
 c. Push forward to flatten him on his back, and fall a little to the right (side of collar grip), and Back Step for the Pass.

III. Closed Guard, Gift Wrap Sweep.
 a. Right hand cross grip right sleeve; left hand under and grips my other wrist. Pop up to break grip and swing to the right as my legs break his posture and I hip out to the left.
 b. Pass his wrist to my left hand around his head for the Gift Wrap.
 c. My right hand pushes on his elbow to the left and I windmill my leg to get the sweep and come up in Mount.

IV. Closed Guard Pass - Wrist Wrap under the Butt.
 a. control right wrist with the left hand / tripod up and go to the left and pass his wrist to my right under his butt.
 b. Get my head over to the left of his head, and keep him on his side. Open his leg and knee cut for the Pass, like a Tozi/Sao Paulo Pass.

V. DLR to Leg Drag Pass.

VI. Paper Cutter Choke from Side.
** Brn Steve has a whole series from there, but Choke and Armbar are his bread and butter.

Work on:

1. Trying to calmly roll. Relax.

Saturday, July 25, 2015

Taps: 3141

Taps: 4. Total: 3141.

Sat. morning is when Black Belts come out to play. There were four BB on the mat, and only three Whites.

BB Chris - Failed Shoot, double ... go to single and Sit out.

II. Elbow and far ankle and push over into Side C.

Work On:

1. Kesa ESC.
2. Lovato - Guard Recovery from Turtle.
3. Whizzer Counter from Half Guard: a. Roll Under and b. Hook sweep.

Saturday, July 18, 2015

Taps: 3137 - JJ League Open Mat

Taps: 4. Total: 3137.

BrB Mike - bunch of details to tighten up my game.
1. I'm too tense and grippy. Gripping too hard and with too much tension. RELAX.
2. X Pass - elbow down to mat / get ready to change directions.
3. Inside Closed Guard - square up. Cage the hips. Elbow on outside to help with keeping his hips corralled.
4. Breaking Spider Guard grips -- he needs the tension to keep the grip, so put a knee under his thigh to relieve the tension enough to break grips.

Bonus Sub -- Side top, Kimura grip to magic grip Choke.
 a. sit him up, lean in with my chest, and my right hand gets in front of his free hand.
 b. my right leg corrals his hand, then switches over to my left leg.
 c. collar grip, thumb in, and lean down and away from his toward the left to get space to get my right leg over his head -- finish the Choke.

* Success - Side Guard Sweep that BB Joel showed last Sunday. Pulled that off a couple of times. Key details: getting his elbow stuck under my chest and getting up on my elbow really made a difference.

Thursday, July 16, 2015

Taps: 3133

Taps: 2. Total: 3133.

BB Vince - Wrestling (contd).

I. Armdrag to Double.
II. Armdrag to Single.
III. Clinch Duck Under.

IV. Underhook/Whizzard:
  a. outside throw.
  b. wide base, can't reach outside -- inside, between legs toss.
  c. Tap back leg, fall back.
  d. lean in, Ankle Pick.

V. Against the Wall vs Underhooked and Takedown.
  a. Whizzard and push head away and turn and put him against the wall.
** don't let him get to my back side.

 b. Mistake: going for Guillotine with non-Whizzard hand. (he can takedown easily or can pull out my leg with outside hook).
-- but if i do make the mistake: Switch - non-Whizzard hand inside thigh and sit.
-- can do it from Turtle top when he goes for Single: lift my free leg, and reach under his thigh and lift and come up in Side.

VI. Counter when he shoots in for a Double Leg.
  * Turn and end up in Mount. In Round 1 (7:20 of video) of the Casey fight, Casey shoots and the other guy counters with this move.

Non-Wrestling: Open Guard Pass.
 I. Control double pants grips.
  a. Stand up, sit down, while controlling the grips and keeping his feet off the mat.
  b. push off to side and come up for Pass.

II. DLR Pass.
 a. he can control same side sleeve but not cross sleeve. Break grip: with right hand, grab his grip hand, circle left hand to break grip.
b. Left hand grabs pants grip on non-DLR leg, sit down and come up in Leg Drag Pass.

Closed Guard -- Guillotine Sweep.
 I. Hook version -- hook in opposite side as Guillotine, and sweep into the Guillotine side.
II. Underhook version -- underhook and lock hands; turn over and sweep to opposite side as Guillotine.

Z Guard Half Pass (Z to X Pass) - another find tech from Scully. Need to drill it. It worked for me today.

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Taps: 3131

Taps: 3131.

BB Vince - more Wrestling.

I. Armdrag to Double.
II. Armdrag to Single.

III. Underhook / Whizzard.
 a. Sweep backwards.
 b. Steps behind you -- Hip Toss (hook high on his leg/thigh).

IV. Stays away -- Trap legand Ankle Pick.

BB Jason -- Double Under to Slide Pass.
1. Passing Right, Slide left knee under his butt, and come up to the Pass.

** Big strong WB and BlB keeping me on my toes. They use strength and muscle moves. That's all they know and get excited. Good practice for me to defend and practice my escapes. Even if I have to tap once in awhile.

Sunday, July 12, 2015

Taps: 3129

Taps: 3129.

Black Joel -- Side Guard Series.
detail: trap the elbow against my chest.

I. Sweep.
II. Choke.
III. Take the Back -- control the arm, get hook in and flatten him and get his arms trapped under him; get under his chin for the Choke.

* Started rolls from the feet. Good Standup practice. Need more Takedown practice.

Takedowns:
1. Double.
2. Single.
3. Ankle Pick.
4. Inside Trip
5. Fireman Carry.
6. Outside trip.

Keep working Closed Guard, High Guard.

Watch my neck/head - keep getting stuck in Loop Chokes/Guillotines. Arm-in Guillotine ESC?

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Taps: 3126

Taps: 6. Total: 3126.

Pretty pathetic. Sit up Guard to getting Passed. Stuck under Side. And Tapping. Sucks.

Should at least Pull Guard from Knees and practice High Guard. That would have been productive.

Black Chris - reminder on Back ESC ... hold my own gi collars so he get get grips. Tuck elbows. Fall at ankle not just to the side. Get my back on the mat and control that top leg so he doesn't transition to Mount. Could use some more drills on that.

Thursday, July 2, 2015

Taps: 3120 and Wrestling Series/Arm Drags

Taps: 6. Total: 3120.

Black Vince - Wrestling.

I. Arm Drag to Double.
  a. Dragging his right arm with my right. Step right foot in between his, and put shoulder in - Make Contact.
 b. Head on outside.
 b. Double tap behind his knees.

II. Arm Drag to Single.
 a. Step with left foot on the outside.
 b. Head inside.
 c. Left hand tap behind his knee, right hand behind his ankle to prevent the sprawl or stepping out or away.

Iowa Series.
I. Turtle Bottom - step out and up.
  a. or control hand on my stomach and roll him.

II. Bottom - Get foot in between his legs and sit back and reverse.

III. Turtle Top
 a. get my foot between his legs and stretch.
 b. That gives space to get hook in with other foot.
 c. Seat belt and roll him.

Black Chris -- Side Guard Series.

* All starts in Closed Guard with Arm Drag.

I. Choke.
  a. grab my ankle on back of his neck for the finish.

II. Sleeve / Elbow pull Sweep to S Mount and Arm Bar.

III. Grip Pants at Knee and Pendulum Sweep the other way.

Bonus tip from Vince. Passing the Lockdown.
 1. Go outside not side of Knee Cut.
 2. Crossface pressure and on underhook side ... windshield wiper my elbow.

Review: Arm bar Break -- Kurt and Luta guy.

Thursday, June 25, 2015

Taps: 3114

Taps: 6. Total: 3114.

Black Chris -- I. Half Guard, Lapel wrap to stand up and Single Leg.

II. Half Guard - he gets underhook, Overhook and collar grip.
  a. Shrimp to get half Butterfly hook.
  b. Let him go for cross face and sweep with the hook.
** start with Knee Shield so he doesn't smash me.

III. Close Guard, set up with Scissor Sweep, Triangle.
 a. right leg goes over his arm and push with knee to get his arm between my legs.
 b. Shoot right leg over to lock in Triangle.

Man, Freaky deaky tricky Purple Web keeps tapping me with his Triangle from top. And he passes quickly or he's tricky wristlock setups from Closed Guard.

Couple of FIRST DAY White Belts. I envy them. You only have one first day of BJJ. They look like lumps of clay, waiting to be carved, molded into something. If they stick with them. If they can only see what I see.

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Taps: 3108

Taps: 4. Total: 3108.

Black Vince -- Side Control Top (Kimura grip) Series Drills.
I. Turns into me -- Tuck elbow in gap and back step and take back on other side ... get Kimura grip.

II. var. with Magic grip, rather than Kimura grip.

III. Turns away, then get underhook and Kimura grip. No need for back stepping to other side. Back is there for taking.

Brown Arman -- showing his Knee Cut to Long Step Pass. I saw a vid with Bruno Frazatto drill where he steps pass rather than Knee Cuts.

Keep working the Closed Guard, Keenan's Cross Choke. Review the Body Triangle ESC, Deep Half Sweep.

Update: Half Guard Pass.

1. on White Belts - can get Underhook ... Tripod Pass.
2. Higher Belts - can't get Underhook -- can farside Underhook and go for Danaher Half Pass to other side.

Saturday, June 20, 2015

Taps: 3104

Taps: 9. Total: 3104.

Brown Arman led class with lots of drills. Good stuff. And he showed a Sit Up Guard Pass.

Work on:

1. Closed Guard, breaking posture.
2. If they Stand ... Omo? or X Guard? Need to go to next options. No hesitation. Drill drill drill.
3. Passes - I get to trap their one Butterfly hook and getting stuck there. Need to reach under with my right hand, grab their butt pants and keep it trapped and SPRAWL left and MOVE MOVE MOVE to finish the Pass.

Rolls -- got lazy and tapped to a Loop Chokes, and let a Blue belt get a cross collar too deep. Need to deal with those grips. Tuck under or break the grip.

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Taps: 3095

Taps: 2. Total: 3095.

Black Chris - I. Half Guard Sweep, variation, kind of like John Wayne Sweep.
 1. But with left hand on same side sleeve grip, and left knee up against his chest and on bicep.
 2. Right hand on left knee grip.
 3. Open up with the left leg on his bicep and get him moving to my left.
 4. Finish by opening, moving my right leg to the left (a la J. Wayne Sweep), and pulling his leg up with my right hand over my head.

II. Half Sweep 2.
 1. Knee Shield with my left leg, pinch his leg with my legs.
 2. Both my hands on mat as I go belly down and push him back and come up in Half Guard Top.

Need to work on Closed Guard.

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Taps: 3093 and Danaher Half Pass

Taps: 2. Total: 3093.

Black Vince - drills from Side, popping up to KoB; popping up to middle from Half and deciding to go either way.

Black Chris -- DLR sweep: ankle and collar grip; left foot removes DLR hook and on his hip, right foot hooks under his other ankle for the Sweep.

*if he steps back with his left foot to avoid the sweep, then ... switch my feet: left foot goes on other hip, and right foot comes under the DLR hook foot and push/sweep into Knee Bar (which I have trouble finishing.

II. Half Lasso, Balloon Sweep from Guard.

As part of the Route 15.6 ... the Half Pass, if I can't get the Underhook. Just love The Danaher Half Guard Pass! It's a Pass to the other side of the Knee Cutter.

1. If I can't get the right (normal) Underhook, get the other Underhook.
2. Get my head on the right side, walk him to the right to flatten him and get his knee on the mat, and pop my knee out. (if necessary, push his knee down to mat with my right hand).
3. Come over the top, Knee Cut with my left, free leg, and pass into Side Control on the right side.

Got it to work a couple times on Blue Joey, but Blue Morgan kept going Deep Half on me too quickly. Gotta say, still have not really solved the Deep Half puzzle. Back to the drawing board or drilling board on the Deep Half counters.

Along with the Closed Guard Pitstop. And I keep forgetting to try the Lobster.

As to the rest of the Route 15.6 -- lower Belts: I'm getting to Mount but not finishing the Keenan Cross Choke; higher Belts: not getting the Side to Mount transition. I think I'm messing up the gi grip under the armpit. Not tight enough. They have space to wriggle out.

Monday, June 8, 2015

Taps: 3091 and Route 15.6

Taps: 3. Total: 3091.

Man, last training at May 21. That's over two weeks.

Back to Sunday training with Black Joel.

Nice Open Guard series, where the guy is standing, and I have double sleeve grips. Best one I liked was the cross grip, hook the leg and Omoplata Roll ... from there lots of attacks, including Armbar, Omoplata on the other side and Triangle if he comes back into you.

Triangle detail: lift hips high for the initial lock, then adjust. That makes it tight.

New guy I've never seen before -- big heavy White Belt, three or four stripes. I tapped him cross collar choke from Mount, not clean at all. Digging into his chin. He then tapped me with an armbar. He had a good grip on my sleeve and extended my arm.

Working on the latest Route 15.6.

1. Pass from Open or Half into Side Control.
2. Side Control to Mount (Ninja Mount)
3. Mount to Cross Collar Choke (Keenan variation).

Also, work on Closed Guard.

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Notes: Side to Mount entry (Ninja Entry)

from BJJ Over40 (Ninja -- easier to remember then BJJ Over 40).

1. Left hand over the face, gi grip.
2. Right hand under the hip/butt, checks the hip.
3. Reverse Kesa and maintain, keep him flat.
  a. if he comes into me, push him back down.
  b. if he tries to roll away, follow.
4. Step over with right foot into Mount.

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Taps: 3083

Taps: 2. Total: 3083.

Black Vince - Flower Sweep and variation, diving under the leg.

Black Chris - Turtle Flip, when they have a single leg. Figure four grip.

II. Turtle, they have single leg. Roll to Omoplata.

High Guard - got there, but then got stacked and lost position. Must review what to do if I have stacked and also how to avoid getting stacked.

Saturday, May 16, 2015

Taps: 3081

Taps: 9. Total: 3081.

Saturday Breakfast Club. Packed house, over 20 guys.

Black Chris - same Kimura Half Pass. Later, when rolling with him and I tried it on him, he swept me.

II. Half Top, chicken wing wrap, and he gets his arm out, tuck my hand in where his hand was and get under his neck for the Choke. Have seen Robson Moura show this tech.

Saw Random Purple, 4 stripe showing a couple Side attacks that caught my attention:

I. Left hand collar grip behind his neck. Get up to Kob, and right hand comes in front and grips near collar, like Baseball grip.
  a. Left hand grip comes over his head, in front, get N/S for the Choke.
  b. He defends, lift him upright and take the Back.

** Cannot remember the other one. Damn. I think it's Kob, he shrimps to get the knee off, then ???

Friday, May 15, 2015

Notes: Half Guard - Tripod Pass

source: Rener and Ryron (Gracie University).

V1.
1. Underhook right side and under his head left side and link hands.
2. My head right of his head. (I always had it on the other side).
3. Stay tight and low, a bit of cross face.
4. Left knee flared out a little for base, right knee also tucked in (to prevent Lockdown).
5. Pop up, get right knee right down middle of his stomach. Soon as knee is cleared, knee cut/knee slide across to the left.

** as needed: pick up his elbow

V2. Ankle gets caught in 1/4 Guard.
1. Pick up his elbow.
2. Get my toes out and under his top leg as my left foot kicks his top knee to clear.

Triggers:
1. I can initiate any time or
2. Wait til he tries to Recover Guard.

V2 - Hook Backup (he's pinching tight)
1. Left, free foot -- foot to my butt and out, into the gap
2. And downward pressure, and keep his legs down, then Tripod and get right foot out, by Knee Cut.

LockDown Release
*Chill. Stabilize position (as in all positions).
1. Hook in, sit on it to pin his knee to mat.
2. Release foot.
3. Tripod up and go.

And they took away the lesson before I was able to watch the drills.

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Taps: 3072

Taps: 3. Total: 3072

Black Vince - Kimura/Magic Grip from Half Guard.
 * Reverse Sit, secure Kimura grip, then switch to Magic Grip. Go right to Pass or scoot out and let him come up to Turtle. Still holding Magic grip, go to other side, trap his other hand with my foot and go for Choke.

** Also, from Side Control. He goes for Underhook, step over, secure Kimura grip as I'm in N/S and rest is the same.

Black Chris -- Half Pass with the Kimura Grip.
1. He gets the Underhook, Whizzer and other hand presses on side of his head and Whizzer hand grabs my own wrist in the figure 4/Kimura grip.
2. Come up and Knee Slide, and then come over to the other side as my hand stays under his head as I get Side Control on the other side.

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Taps: 3069

Taps: 6. Total: 3069

Black Chris -- Back Attack.
1. From Seatbelt, fall to underhook side, if right side.
2. Right arm underhooks his right arm and controls, left arm comes in front of his face, swing left leg over his face and go for the Armbar.
3. If he defends, left hand reaches for far collar, palm down, thumb in grip.
4. Swing back to the left, get left hook back in, and right hand goes behind his neck and grab gi on the shoulder for the Choke.

Black Vince - Back Attack - Kimura grips.

* Also, Standups -- duck unders and counter (grab the belt).

Working - the Tripod Half Pass.
*Didn't work on two Brown belts - one caught my ankle and swept, the other just swept and I forgot to base out with my underhook hand, or even my head.

Blue Joey loves the Lockdown and I got pass that using the Lockdown Release, even though I forgot to slap my foot on the release.

Elbow sore - Blue Joey just won't let go of the arm once he has it, and yanks and yanks.

Side Control Top tip -- Purple Jason: Gi wrap under the head control with the left hand, and combine it with right hand grabs top elbow and pull in and dig my elbow on his belly. For even more pressure - add KoB.

Half Guard 15.4

Trying to organize Half Guard techs I'm trying to master.

1. Old School (Gordo)

2. Roll Under Sweep (Gordo)

3. I call it "Clothesline" Sweep (Kesting)

4. Tails / Shaolin Sweep

5. J. Wayne Sweep (Williams)

6. Tri-Force Sweep

Taps: 3063

Taps: 4. Total: 3063.

Black Vince - Half Pass, getting the ankle out. Go Reverse Sit, then come back and the foot should be easy to get out.

II. DLR Counter with Ninja Roll to Back.
  a. Right foot forward, and DLR hooked ... Don't left him get Left Hand gi grip.
  b. He stretches you, and almost down to mat, Post with left hand on the mat ...
  c. Hook with right leg and Ninja Roll over right shoulder.

III. Same Ninja Roll from Half Guard Top.
** either normal or from the right side, but hook top leg.

IV. DLR Counter Footlock (he's seen the Roll), Scoop his ankle, sit back down for the Footlock.
** Hide my foot under his leg, so he can't footlock back.

Black Chris - review from Tues - Brabo Series (Choke, Choke w/ his arm, Armlock).
** detail: make a sleeve pocket with his gi folded over to get a good grip with second hand.

II. Mount Maintenance
 1. Cross face with left hand under his head, grab under armpit on far side.
 2. Right hand underhooks and keeps his arm above his head, helpless.
 3. Grapevine legs or cross legs under him.
 4. Pressure down on his stomach with my hips.

Contd. -- with Scissor Sweep. May try Saulo's variation with just the cross grip, knee in middle, scoot back for distance and gas pedal.

Or regular with Gas Pedal. Keep forgetting about it.

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Taps: 3059

Taps: 5. Total: 3059.

Man, nearly two weeks since my last training session. So what happened today?

Black Vince -- Kimura grip with head scoop control from Side, S-Mount and N/S to the Back into an Armbar.
*From Back: Top arm (right hand) controls his opposite wrist; underhook hand (left) grabs my wrist in Kimura grip. The only variation is the right hand his under his head for tight control.
 a. if he tries to roll to the right, my left leg is across his belly to keep him down, or I can come up into S Mount.
 b. if he turns to the left, take the Back, and if peels off my elbow, go into Armbar.

II. Back ESC - he has top gi grip ... grab elbow and sleeve, get his elbow on top my chin (no need to get it all the way out). Move to the left, left, then back to him to the right when the hooks are cleared.

III. Peel gi grip off -- stick thumb in on top and squeeze all his fingers together to peel off.

Black Chris -- DLR gi grip Sweep.
 1. DLR hook, right foot on his thigh keeping distance.
 2. Sit up, pass right gi tail from right to left under his legs.
 3. Right hand grabs his collar and pulls him down.
 4. Pass gi tail again from left to right, but on other side of his butt.
 5. Left hand post behind me on the mat, come up scoop up his ankle with my left foot, very similar to the Tanquino Sweep.

II. Passing Half to Quarter, and Armbar option.
 a. Sit back on his legs, get gi Tail for Brabo Choke, passing it from left to right.
 b. If he defends, pull that arm across, pressure down with chest for Choke or lift my left leg and pull that arm against it for the Armlock.

Bonus: After Class -- i spied Purple Brian showing a couple of techs to other people.

I. Lockdown Sweep - get them up high and over your head with the Lockdown, then push on hips for the Sweep.

II. Side ESC - trap their legs with near arm, clothes line with the other hand against side of their head as I bridge for the Sweep.

Review: Belly Down Armbar

Remember to hop over.

Also, Saulo's ESC - smash their legs, knees down to the mat with my chest.

Scissor Sweep 15.4

Everything I Know About the Scissor Sweep from Closed Guard ( v15.4)

Now that I'm coming back to focus on Closed Guard as a Purple, I've been seeing so many little gems of details and I want to get them down.

White Belt -- I first learned the Scissor. Grips -- Right hand (cross collar), Left hand (behind elbow or wrist). Shrimp out and get leg across belly or upright against his shoulder. Pull him to get him light then sweep.

Getting the grips was easy, but getting him forward to make him light to execute the sweep was the hardest part. That's when I came up with ...

The Falling Scissor.
a. On knees, at the beginning of a roll, I'd get my grips.
b. I would push and if they fell, then I'm on top. If they push back, I fall backwards like I'm Pulling Guard, bringing him with me.
c. As he's coming forward, his body is light and I execute the Scissor.

I've had the most success with this version of the Scissor.

Fast Forward to now and Purple Belt era, and I'm revisiting the Scissor as I look again at the Closed Guard.

Judo Dr. Rhadi -- main takeaway: Everything is done a certain way, certain order. The same every time. Grips -- Lapel, Feed, Sleeve. Lapel, Feed, Sleeve.
 * Get on side and leg across belly.
** If he lifts leg to defend, GAS PEDAL. (Push on his thigh/leg).

Andreh variation -- leg position and trigger.
 * Right leg - upright, leg on hip and knee against his shoulder.
** Trigger: wait, wait. He will move and try something. As soon as he lifts his hips up -- that's the TRIGGER. He's light, so use my right under his armpit for the Sweep.

Saulo variation (Revolution Series 2) -- knee up like Andreh, and just cross sleeve grip. He keeps scooting back to create distance and stretch him out. Then Gas Pedal his knee out from under him as he uses up leg for the sweep.

Last one. Dinklage from Precision MMA - swings back other way then comes back for the chop; also creates angle to make him light.

Taps: 3054

Taps: 1. Total: 3054.

Black Vince - Lasso Spider. Get on my HIPS. HIPS. HIPS.

And a simple sweep - Lasso to DRL, then DLR hook on hip, hand on ankle, other leg below his other ankle and push him down.

Same setup to Triangle. Lasso hand, let go and grab behind head, and shoot legs through. The Lasso side arm should be the inside arm caught in my legs.

Black Chris - Side Control Spin Armbar.
1. Belt and collar grips, hop up to KoB.
2. He pushes on my knee, underhook that arm, trap it and spin.
3. Knee on other side of his attacked arm, grab his pants leg and lean back for finish.

Armbar ESC where he stuffs my leg between his ... Counter with Kneebar.

After Class Bonus: Vince was showing White Mel a couple of things and I was uke.

Closed Guard -- Right hand cross sleeve grip, left hand behind the head collar grip. Shrimp left and arm drag, getting arm across center line ... as he comes back to square up, then PULL and sweep him like a Flower Sweep.

Gotta work that into my game.

And another thing -- my Side Control SUCKS. And Side Control ESC sucks a little less than top. But I guess I have to come around to that later. Working on Guard at the moment.

Monday, April 13, 2015

Taps: 3053

Taps: 5. Total: 3053.

Tech 1 - Closed Guard, Choke with the Gi Wrap.

Tech 2 - Collar Drag.

Working on the Scissor Sweep.

Man, getting so frustrated and tired of getting smashed by strong White and Blues. My Jits techniques are not good enough to overcome their strength.

Thursday, April 2, 2015

Taps: 3049

Taps: 5. Total: 3049.

Brown Arman led the class and started with lots of drills, drills ... then a couple of techs.

Tech 1 - guy gets knee up, Lasso other side and get under that knee and get top arm across and sweep.

Tech 2 - armbar if he stands to defend.

Tech 3 - tech stand up.

Focus - Guard, Closed ... Scissor Sweep (Rhadi) -- the Gas Pedal. Also, Armdrag and Xande Sweep and Crossbow Open Guard.

Deep Half Counter - step over. Blue Morgan was killing me with his Deep Half. Back to the drawing board. Never did really figure out a good counter.

And got dumped on my neck twice by accident -- once by Morgan during a Spider Guard start; he just picked my up and dumped me; second time, White Belt went to Deep Half really quickly and spun me on my neck. It's already pretty sore.

Lastly, my Spider Guard and DLR suck. Not too worried about it since I haven't spent any time on them. Just stating facts.

And not proud of it but Brown Izzy made me tap to his Side Control Pressure, not even Kob. Just had the cross face and pulling up as he laid on my ribs/chest. Damn.

Monday, March 30, 2015

Taps: 3044, Atos JJ League Open Mat

Taps: 5. Total: 3044.

Couple of pointers from Lil Bro Brown: on my Half Leg Weave Pass - vary pressure, don't be so predictable. Also, I have my head down to keep him down and flat, but not such a good idea when he's a collar grip and can easily get a Loop Choke on me.

Tapped to a big, strong 4-stripe White. Fast armbars. Yanking Armbars. The same White Belt got me with a Flower Sweep. Just excellent timing on it. I'm in his Closed Guard. He's real relaxed, controlling my right hand. Then he hips up, and out and arm drags me, then as I move in, trying to square back, he DIVES under my leg with his right with perfect timing and my momentum, sweeps me. Damn.

I'm thinking, I have to put that back into my toolbox. Start drilling that. For my Closed Guard repertoire. Arm Drag, wait for the Squaring Movement, Dive dive dive. Sweep.

Also, stop hanging out in a bad position. Stop stalling and waiting for the clock. Work on an escape. If I was on the street, there is no clock. Work on the escape. Work on the escape. Stop being a wuss.

Tails Sweep - hit that a couple of times. Try to work in the J. Wayne, too.

One more day of Passing focus, and then I move on to Guard work.

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Taps: 3039

Taps: 7. Total: 3039.

Tech - Over/Under Pass Var.

var. B -  Hop over to other side.

var. C - vs. Butterfly Guard and he has strong cross collar grip -- duck under the grip before going for the Pass.

Just remembered one more Pass to add to the List ... Sky Knee Re-Direct Pass.

vs. Purple Brian -- A sort of success with Half Pass/Z Guard Pass ... using the Leg Weave and controlling the bottom leg and wipering that leg (per Thorton), and I also hopped over to the other side.

Need to remember to do that more -- change direction/hop ... also, sprawl to break his hook and push against his chest with my HEAD.

Those three things!!!

Also, Brian was showing me some Williams Guard entries and the concept of creating space on the way.

1. How to break grip if he's holding both biceps inside the guard. How to get inside grip.
2. Cross wrist control and the pseudo kimura grip.
3. If his elbow's down and tight, hips up and on the way down, sneak your hand under.
4. Same applies in trying to get an Arm Drag.

He said he was going to lend me the Williams Guard DVD.

I'll add that to the list -- Covell Closed Guard and the Hauteur Flower Sweep -- for next month's focus on Guard.

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Tap: 3032

Taps: 6. Total: 3032.

Think i'm on a little plateau. Little frustration. It's been awhile since my last training session, and I didn't really feel like going today. But I did. And I knew I would feel better about it. But still.

Sticking with the Passing focus for this month. Need to Pass cleaner and not get stuck in Half Guard all the time.

And then also, getting smashed and stuck in Half Guard Bottom, too. Not a happy camper.

Need a system of improvement.

Drill: over/under Pass.

Sunday, March 8, 2015

Taps: 3026 and Simi Open Mat

Taps: 6. Total: 3020.

A slight improvement in Passing. Use rest of the month on Passing.
Hit a leg drag from knees, and want to look at TT wheel Pass or Lo's Long Fall Pass.

Work on:

Muscle Sweep
Flower Sweep - got hit with it a couple of times. Put in back in my rotation.
Inverted Sweep

Noticed these are all Closed Guard techs.

Thursday, March 5, 2015

Side Attacks 15.3

1. Zach/Rodolfo Baseball Choke.

2. D'arce (mma candy/Luta)

3. Slowly working in TT Switch Armbar.

4. Switch to other side -- Seat Belt.

Don't think. Do one of these.

Taps: 3020 and the Drop Seoi

Taps: 6. Total: 3020.

Tech 1 and 2: Seoi Nage and Drop Seoi Nage (Judo Hip throw).

I like the Drop. Need to drop both knees to mat at same time.

Tech 3 - Closed Guard Break - standing and shaking. Later, when i tried to defend it with the Muscle Sweep, I didn't quite pull it off. Review Muscle Sweep - Liera.

Mild Success with the Half Sweep - Tri Force.

Purple Brian kept swinging the leg over my head to prevent the Pass. I need to drill the Robot Legs.

Drilled with Brown Arman:
1. Leg Drag
2. Side Control Top - he turns into me, drop elbow on near belly, swing to the other side and get Seat Belt.
3. Knee Slice Pass.

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Taps: 3014

Taps: 7. Total: 3014.

Black Chris -- Tech 1. hip throw with Underhook.

Tech 2.  Block punch, underhook and get to the side, step in front to Hip Throw.

Tech 3 - Get to the side and shuck and RNC.

Tech 4 - Closed Guard choke with the Lapel. Key detail: flip over to make the "pocket" with his gi to grab with the second hand.

Now my Guard and Open Guard sucks. Not surprising, not too worried about it because I've been focusing on Passing last and this month. Need to keep Passing the rest of this month, then to Guard, Back ESC and Half Guard ...

Fail: Roleta Sweep. Came close with Darce from Side.

One more thing: REMEMBER to wiper the legs after I break open Guard, so I don't end up stuck in Half Guard, which happens half the time. And I spend time passing half guard.

Sunday, March 1, 2015

Taps: 3007

Taps: 4. Total: 3007.

Black Joel - Side ESC - getting far side Underhook and spinning out.

Counter to that - killing that Underhook and going N/S.

Misc: My Takedowns SUCK! Not surprising. I'm a total White Belt when it comes to takedowns. If I have time, I want to focus on the setups to:

1. Single
2. Double
3. Safada.
4. Graugart Arm Drag TD.

Still Focusing on Passing - did my reps of X Pass, on to Leg Drags. Most all of, I need to CHAIN the different Passes together ...

1. Start with Torreado, then X Pass, and Leg Drag, just cycle through them til I get the Pass.

Latest Half Guard Sweep I like.

6. Turn in to him, come up on knees.

ABD - Always Be Drilling

X Pass Drill ... no partner, no mat? No problem.

I just need a chair.

Goal: 1000 reps by end of the week. Halfway there.

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Taps: 3003 - Guest Instructor: Black Kenny

Taps: 7. Total: 3003.

Black Vince -- Double Under Pass.

Black Kenny - Passing Clinic / Drill.

Intro: 1. Stand to Pass. Stand to Pass. Stand to Pass. 2. Break at least one grip.

Drill Pass 1 - Torreado.

Drill Pass 2 - X Pass.

Drill Pass 3 - Leg Drag. (thrust up with hip to clear the leg just before dragging leg across.)

Drill Pass 4 - Right hand on Chest, Left hand on knee, and hop X Pass to the left. (Hand on knee pushes away to the right).

Dealing with DLR hook.
1. Kick away, step away, and come back and if he Sits Up, go to Pass 4.
2. Or Leg Drag the non-hook leg.

Switch over to Bottom - Closed Guard.

1. If he stays on his knee, Spider Guard Sweep.
2. vs. Combat Base - DLR hook, non-hook leg goes through for sweep.
3. vs. Stands, Spider Lasso to Triangle.

3a. Spider Lasso from Closed Guard to Triangle or Omo.
Step 1: Double pocket wrist gi grips.
Step 2: Scoot back, get both feet on his hips.
Step 3: Open my knees to outside, trapping his arms.
Step 4: Left leg Spider, get on my left butt, left leg on his bicep and extend my leg all the way.
Step 5: Right leg Lasso.
Step 6: Unlasso, and pull his arm in as I get legs over and closed for Triangle. Grab my angle and adjust.

Fail:
1. Half Pass - Criss Cross.
2. Reverse Omo. First time I tried it. Thought I'd try something different when he turtled.

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Taps: 2296 - Focus of the month: Passing

Taps: 4. Total: 2296.

Focus of the Month: (started today) - Passing.

1. Over/Under - Whittier and Grippo.
2.  Torreado - Lo. / steering wheel.

3. X Pass.
4. Leg Drag.

Misc - a. Blue Joey escaped Side on me twice with the same Shoulder/Collar Push. b. Can't seem to finish Loop Choke. Brown Steve gave me a tip - wrist turn and pull, to get it tighter.

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Open Guard Passing

4  PassingTechniques.

1. Bullfight.

2. X Pass.

3. Leg Pass.

And according to S. Whittier:

1. Control legs.
2. Control hips.
3. Lock in the upper body.
4. Finalize the pass.

i.e.

4th Pass - Over/Under Pass.

Thursday, February 5, 2015

Taps: 2292 - Guest Instructor: Kenny from Simi

Taps: 9. Total: 2292.

Side to Back Series.

Awesome class format. Technique, then drill, then one-minute drills. Then next part of the Series. Repeat.

Tech. 1 -- From Side, Bottom Guy shrimps and turns into you.
  a. Left arm, elbow in crook and swing right leg behind his head and get behind him, get my chest heavy on his shoulder. Get Seatbelt grip.

Tech 2 -- Same reaction.
  b. my right hand grips his top leg and presses down as I hop over his legs and come up behind him.

Tech. 3 - KoB, same reaction.
  a. step over with left leg, Knee of his back.
  b. He turtles, my left leg circles over his head, counterclockwise, and I sit on his back, and get Seatbelt, and fall to side, getting his back.

Tech 4 -- from S Mount, and Seatbelt.
  a. bottom hand feeds collar to top hand, cinch it tight.
  b. Turn him over to my left, make sure I get the bottom hook in, top leg hangs out on his hip.
  c. My face close to his, and I have the choke grips. I push down on his hip with my top leg, creating space, and get that leg over his top arm, trapping it, and now I can finish the choke easily.

Bonus: Passing tip.
1. Get knee grips, stand up, step back to get his legs stapled to mat, go to the right, and drop my shoulder.

So -- Get Grips. Stand up.

Mild Success: Tails sweep. I can't get left hand grip, but if they have a Kimura on me on that hand, it's like I have a grip, and can still do the Sweep.

Fail: Tanquino Sweep.
Fail: Roleta Sweep.

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

Taps: 2283

Taps: 5. Total: 2283.

Warmup - Leg Drags.

Closed Guard Armdrag Series.

I. Armdrag to Flower Sweep.

II. Armdrag to Sweep to Bow and Arrow.

III. Armdrag to Leg over Choke, kind like Triangle but with collar grip,

VI. Takedown - Underhook, move to get angle on his front leg, push him as I grip his front leg for Single.

Fail - Roleta Sweep.
Fail - Passing.
Success - Xande Sweep, and Armbar followup.
Success - Roll over Armbar.  Fail - Armbar Break.

Drill -
1. X Pass and Leg Drag.
2. Muscle Sweep.
3. Xande Sweep.
4. Roleta Sweep.

Also, been thinking about ...

a. Closed Guard - Reverse Scissor grip leads to an Armdrag on that side.
b. Armdrag with two-on-one, and if he pulls back go to Roy Dean's two-on-on Scissor Sweep.

Been practicing rolls in preparation for Berimbolo. Haven't had the guts to actually try it. Should actually drill it some.

Monday, January 26, 2015

Taps: 2278 and Simi Open Mat

Taps: 14. Total: 2278.

First time back with my Purple, and they really welcomed me with a beatdown ... gi burns on my neck from all the Bow and Arrow Choke attempts on me (think I tapped twice and a bunch of escapes); elbow and shoulder sore from getting armbarred and Omoplatted.

Purple Sky got the overhook on me and transitioned to Omo at will. Even from Half Guard Bottom, I would get the underhook and try my pass and he would hip out, control that arm, and that was that -- Omo city.

A tiny little Blue got a Bolo on my from sitting, and I maybe should have watched Kit Dale's Bolo Counter. No biggie.

Speaking of Bolos, I did get Purple Matt down on his butt like Aesopian's suggestion with the off foot on his stomach, but couldn't invert from there (because I haven't drilled it).

Should drill that and the Omo set up.

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Taps: 2264

Taps: 5. Total: 2264.

Black Vince - Side ESC series. Get the Underhook. Get on Side. Suck in my elbow.

Trying to add the Clamp down Rollover ESC to my toolbox, too.

On my mind:
1. Deep Half Entries.
2. Berimbolo.
3. X Guard entries.
4. Shin to Shin Guard.

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Taps: 2259 and Apt. training

Taps: 4. Total: 2259.

Now that we are both Purples, not a whole lot has changed about Brian and I. Just a little bit smoother. He's trained at a bunch of places the past few months, learned a ton of cool, new techniques and he's starting to get overwhelmed as he tries to digest it all.

Anyway, we tried a few.

For me, I got to work a couple of stuff from Liera's Closed Guard dvd. 2-on-1 armdrag and the Xande Sweep, and Muscle Sweep. I'm going to add Omoplata soon.

Oh, and my Sit Up Guard Sucks. He kept going right through into Knee Slice. Need to look into Sit Up Guard.

Also, keep working Deep Half and X Guard. And Around the World Wiper Drill.

Thursday, January 8, 2015

Taps: 2255

Taps: 4. Total: 2255.

Black Vince.

1. Butterfly to X Guard.
  a. if they stand or put knee up to defend sweep.

** details: -- dive under the raised leg, don't move the other side hook, get same side leg out and over my other leg, and GET KNEE INSIDE (between his legs, behind him).

** also leg lock series, which I am not ready to put in my toolbox yet.

Rolling with Purple Josh -- he's quicker than I in the transition and scrambles. And that was the difference. Tried the Lo Half Pass but couldn't get Underhook on him, but I just remembered I should try Lo's Plan B - cross collar face crank if I can't get the Underhook.

He also suggested going one way first before going the other way sweep in Deep Half. Good detail I need to remember.

Purple Brian came back from East Coast, trained at Renzo's, and showed a couple of stuff from there. Main one - Half Sweep, belly down.

Also, a Hybrid Guard, Omo setup, Spider to Triangle.

Thinking about:
X Guard
Deep Half
Closed Guard

Go back and Review -- Butterfly Passes.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Taps: 2251

Taps: 2. Total: 2251.

Black Vince.

1. Three point/Tripod push sweep.
  a. From Closed Guard - left butterfly hook, and the guy stands.
  b. Left hand controls right ankle, left foot on his right hip, right foot just behind his left ankle.
  c. Push on his hip with the left foot.

2. Butterfly Sweep A.
  a. Left hook in, and he grabs knee to push down.
  b. Underhook on the left side, right hand comes in front of his face and link hands.
  c. Fall to my right and lift with the hook for the sweep.

3. Butterfly Sweep B - Double Underhooks.
  a. Scoot close enough to link my hands behind him.
  b. Get my head below his head, on his chest, and fall straight back.

4. Butterfly Sweep C - push out his knee.

Black Chris.

1. Closed Guard - nice Scissor Sweep setup to Triangle, postures back and go for armbar.

2. If he stands, hook his leg and get my leg over his face for traditional armbar.

Bonus:

Brown Chris showed a Side Control to Ninja Roll Back Take.
  a. Get crossface out, onto other side of his face, my elbow tight against side of his head.
  b. Scoot back toward his head, and completely kill his near arm.
  c. Both my hands on the mat, below his hand.
  d. Roll over my left shoulder, kick with my right.
  e. Back take, keep the bottom hook, get right top hook in.

Fancy. About as fancy as I'm gonna get.

All the Brown Belts are very very heavy in Side Control. Cannot hang out there anymore.
