Seven taps from Nick, who's a Black now. Also, saw that Theo is BB, too. Didn't get to roll with him.
The other taps from BB Tarca, who showed me his wicked Side to Cruxifix.
* Crossface hand traps the elbow and pulls back, while other hand half Nelsons behind the head; back foot threads through crossface trap, other leg hooks under his hip and lifts him and get my far to the other side and link my legs to together and trap that far arm.
** near arm separates his arm from away his body, that leaves his neck free, and i attack with foot on his far arm or his neck for the choke.
Good thing i got vid of it.
Tried to get Top Lock armbar, but not deep enough as he pulled his arm out ... should have gone to Triangle.
1. From Side, get Giftwrap grip.
2. Step over and hook that foot on the outside of his HIP, and don't let him get that leg between his.
3. Fall towards his feet, and other foot in crook of their elbow (6:20)
4. Other foot crosses over the foot that jammed the elbow. (6:33)
5. (Opportunity here to get choke if the link in arms is broken, or continue on to armbar) - 6:41
6. Now get the arm over their head, as if going for armbar. (6:45), and sit up and break grip, should be easy bc of the crossed feet over one arm. (7:05)
7. Can finish w/o swinging the leg over his head, like in a regular armbar.
II. Collar Push / Ankle tap
a. same side collar, then push across and stiff arm
III. Collar Drag to Loop Choke
a. drag down, loop in
b. near knee/leg goes in and traps a la cruxifix
c. fall towards his butt, loop choke set
d. finish by getting other leg over to the back of his head, and pressing, tightening the choke.
Funny, purp eddie and purp paul -- the guy who injured my pec many moons ago and now i have to have surgery were both there today. haven't seen them in ages.
Side ESC -- they were demo a gurgel one push and stiff arm against collar and come up. Need to frame on his hip, too. Always looking for the magic Side ESC.
I really wanted to go to Simi Open Mat ... in honor of KB. Just couldn't make it up there with the timing of family obligations. Will try for Xmas open mat.
Having said that, Legacy was crowded! Lots of peeps from the Sunday Confessions. Saw Brn Leglock Tim ... asked for refresher to Knee Cut to 411.
Brn Monster Nick now a Black Belt. Tapped me five times. Tim declined to roll with him Smart. BB Ray was there, got me with Bow and Arrow, need to review Esc. I'm supposed to hold his ankle so he can't swivel but i think it was way too late.
Maybe people thought my faded Brown was a dirty White Belt. Rolled with a couple of Whites and Blues. Tried not to bully them. But did sweep them easily from Half.
Only one more sess before surgery. Plan is to buy a small mat and grappling dummy to use while i recover. Could be 3 to 6 months. Damn.
Bad News -- need surgery for a detached Tendon in my pectorial muscle from March 2018. Finally consulted a PT, who suggested i see a orthopedic surgeon and he got me an Xray and MRI and it's a torn tendon, that i've been rolling with for over a year and half.
My random thoughts on basics ... focus on three positions and branch out from there.
I. Closed Guard -- danaher top lock armlock
II. Side ESC
III. Passing
Those three will lead to others and will keep me busy for years to come.
BB Vince ... Turtle Series
I. Trap Wrist on Wrist
a. Turn my head into him, then Rollover Sweep
II. Trap Wrist
a. Stick my near foot on outside of his, Roll back sweep
III. if he sprawls and gets heavy
a. Duck my head under and out
b. release the wrist control and grab around his waist and come up in Turtle top / Back
** Do it fast enough so he doesn't Counter with a Step into MOUNT.
Bonus:
Half Pass I -- get knee out, regular Knee Cut
Half Pass II -- turn him into Quarter Guard, bring other leg over for Far Side Knee Cut.
*Man, finally back on the mat. It's been 11 days since last training.
Working on: Danaher Top Lock Armbar
Drilling SEQ
1. Grips: Cross sleeve / Cross Collar
2. Top lock/ High Guard -- shimmy to get on side to get space to lock up Top Lock
3. Top foot reaches for far shoulder to break him down further
4. Wrist on wrist control (to prevent RNC defense)
5. Pass leg over his face, feet pointed down and below my knees ... if done right, should be able to control without my hands gripping his wrist.
Like a 10-min roll with monster Nick. Nine taps to him.
Work the:
Side ESC
Closed Guard
Heisen Guard - totally forgot about today.
Back attack - Strait jacket system.
Side to ninja roll to back?
Some success vs lower belts on Side / Kimura to Armbar. Work on the giftwrap armbar.
from Brn Kris ... haven't seen him for awhile. Still recovering from shoulder injury. he told me an interesting thing -- when he escapes from bottom, he waits for the top person's muscles to TENSE up, that's when he moves. When they tense up, they are getting ready to move.
BB Chris ... Closed Guard Arm Drag to Side Guard series
I. Drag -- same side sleeve and other hand goes under and to the same elbow like i'm going for armbar, hip out and get him to Side Guard.
A. Choke
a. reach around, back of the head to front gi
b. get left leg over the shoulder and grab ankle with the other hand to tighten choke
B. Armbar ... trap arm under the armpit
a. reach in front of his face, chin, push face away to get leg over
C. Bump Sweep
a. reach in front of face, grip the sleeve and pull up
b. other hand -- big circle behind me to come up on my elbow, bump him over
c. come up in Mount, then S Mount and Armbar.
Getting better at Darce Escapes. Caught in Arm Triangle. Escaped Arm Triangle into Ezekiel. Man, I know that combo. Abandoned it awhile ago and now Purp AJ who used to Darce me moved on to that, sheesh.
Brn Wade ... who loves the Baseball choke, even from bottom. I wasn't having it. He back stepped a lot from my Half Guard game. Need to drill the counter. I'm missing the timing to hook and backtake, so work on the other sweep by lifting the pants leg.
BB Tarca and Brn Nick -- that's where all the taps came from.
One hand Blue tried all kinds of Darce but Malachi's Darce Killer tip saved my ass -- get my trapped arm in front and frame his hip!!
Passing Focus ... a. Hauteur old school over/under
b. Faria Over/Under -- go back to that
c. Keenan Knee Down or Knee wheel spin
Gift Wrap Armbar -- getting closer. Go back and Review.
Heisen Sweep -- finally almost got the sweep. He based back to i kept going that way and came up on top instead of sweeping the regular Shaolin roll way.
Nick -- good tip about Collar Armdrag, which i knew but that doesn't mean i was doing it. Don't pull the guy, more use the collar grip to PULL MYSELF to the side of him.
Back attack / Strait Jacket ... keep practicing. Pummel when he grips my top arm.
** Injury update -- finally went to Physical Therapist who say i have torn muscle and it might be too long since injury for fix with surgery but will still see the Surgeon.
Checking my records it's been YEAR and 8 MONTH!! Injury occurred March 2018.
Left pectoral muscle ... can lift things but CANNOT SUPPORT weight since the injury. That means i can't do PUSHUPS, HANG on a bar or Downward Dog.
BB Chris ... Basic CPR Armbar from Mount
a. push up to feet, transition to S Mount
b. gather both arms, under the one attacking, elbow of the other one, suck it in to me
c. lean forward and to his far leg, get my leg over his head
Mount Armbar II
a. get High Mount, flare his elbows
b. into S mount / left knee against his ear, bend S to other leg
c. he defends / RNC grip and hides attacked arm under, keeps far arm on top
d. go under the top arm, gather his elbow, flare my elbow up, breaking his grip
e. post hand on mat, swivel to FAR armbar.
* Rolled with BB Chris ... he pretty much immoblized me with Omoplata. I rolled and he kept it on top. I couldn't do anything and he could have subbed me any time. He just let time run out.
** Cut on my eye closed up. And it held up to rolling today.
*** BB Vince's Closed Guard Pass -- knee up and baiting the underhook on his leg and when they do trap the arm by bring leg back down. Then go into a Over/Under Pass.
BB Chris ... I. Open Guard / X Guard Sweep I
a. Double sleeve, double feet on hips ... get his hands on outside of my knees
b. Transition to X Guard ... right foot tucks in on outside of his right hip but my knee inside and behind his left knee ... underhook his left leg above his knee with my right hand
c. my left foot hooks his right foot / left hand has same side sleeve
d. push with my left foot, make his post on mat to my left ... then lift with the underhook hand to come up in KoB.
II. X Guard to Crab Ride Back Take
a. he breaks sleeve grip and postures up -- grab collar and pull and make him post his hand again on the mat
b. past his leg over face to the other side, frame behind his leg with my left hand, get my left knee in behind the leg, reach over with right hand for his belt ... Crab ride to Back.
* Only got 1 1/2 rolls in before i got a Cut under my eye and blood ... rolling with heavy Blue Alex ... when i washed the blood off, the cut looked deep, thought i might need stitches but the silver lining is that Alex is a nurse and said no need for stitches. Saved me a trip and money for Urgent Care.
Alex is getting better, as is the other Blues and Purples. Can't do my usual Half Guard shit on them. Or it takes me longer to pull it off, usually at the end of a roll. I need to evolve.
Review -- Mermaid Sweep -- man, i had the guy's legs locked up with my legs but i just could not sweep. i was missing something.
** Also, Kneebar from Half (Keenan).
*** Tried the Heisen Sweep, but could not get it going. Maybe i need to post my foot on his hip, and get deeper under his armpit before i flare out the other way.
All but two taps to Leglocker Tim. Didn't even roll with Nick. Would have had another 8 or 9 taps then.
BB Tarca was in the house. He was getting me with the Reverse Kimura. Cross wrist grip, then Rev Kimura lock up, then into him, away from the grip, making him roll with me.
Also, a Side Cruxifix ... cross face, separate his far hand away, my other hand behind his neck, then there's room to get my leg over, and my other leg traps his arm for Crux.
Of course, Nick says why all the steps. He just wraps under the elbows in Side, then locks his hands and rolls to the other side and takes back and cranks on the chin.
Tim really gave me more tips on his Saddle entry ... it all starts with Knee Slice Pass ... get underhook and go for the Pass, when he defends ... ride the thigh, backstep and two on one the far leg and Heel Hook.
* He finally showed me a Heel Hook Esc -- turn away, point my points and YANK fast away my foot.
Tim's goto Side Attack ... cross face, collar, and lift elbow to turn the face ... tripod pressure and make him turn, lift him a little, get my leg under and take the Back, get my head close and next to his head.
one last tip from Tim -- Pull / Push to create tension and power with less effort, examples of KoB, pulling on collar while pressing with Knee; Kneeshield -- pulling on collar while pushing with Knee, etc.
*** frustrated ... feel like i'm again losing a lot of the SCRAMBLES. either tired or lazy, not coming up when i should, after a near Sweep.
Had to take couple of weeks off due to Pinched nerve in the neck. Still not 100%, but if i didn't train today, it would be whole another week before i could get on the mats.
All 5 taps to Leglock Brn Tim ... and he did show me his entry vs Sitting Guard ... lead with the foot and bait the Single then Back Step into Saddle.
Start with riding the hip, in an almost Knee Cut, then 2 on 1 the leg at the knee and ankle, backstep into it.
Focus:
1. Gordon Strait Jacket Back Attack.
2. Gordon Side to Back
3. Gordon Closed Guard
4. Gordon Butterfly Sweep
** Prevent Underhook. Go Deep Half. Grab ankle. Turtle Turnover.
He told stories in between a few techniques. Did not roll with anyone; that was disappointing. Did stay to take pictures with everyone and answered all questions.
I stayed and rolled.
Injury update: that soreness from Saturday was pinched nerve. Still feeling it. Might have to take a break.
Damn, neck and shoulders super sore. Thought it was from the Darce drill but actually that one time the Blue belt had me in a Triangle. I escaped but while i was in there was enough and now i'm paying.
Closed Guard -- did better. Played the Shotgun grips and if they passed that, they fell into my Half Guard and Coyote.
I. Failed shot, to single to Sit out to Turtle Top
a. trap above elbow, post up leg on same side, Sit out
II. Turtle Attack, Bow and Arrow Choke
a. Choking grip on the left hand
b. Post right hand on right hand, go over to the other side turning him over
c. Reg finish with legs crossed, and pants grip but i really like the JT Torres tip of underhooking the leg and falling towards the leg for even tighter, more efficient finish.
man, my Closed Guard and Passing sucks so bad. I need to focus, focus and spend more time and drill these two positions. And Muscle SWEEP vs Standing.
BB Vince ... Kesa ESC with grabbing the near leg with both hands and looping it over my head for the sweep reversal, assuming my back hand is in front of the guy and not behind him, where mine is usually.
BB Chris ... I. Side ESC
a. prevent crossface, pass that hand over to other side'
b. frame both on his back, scoot up
c. bridge and recover knee, then guard
II. Review / Back attack, to kimura armbar
drill:
1. Side ESC / wall drill
2. Side ESC, ankle trap roll
3. Closed Guard, roll armbar
4. TD -- 1. kata guruma / 2. Armdrag Single
BB Vince / Wrestling Basics / Fundamentals
the Takedown / Distance / Can't shoot unless both conditions exist:
1. One hand on mat
2. One hand on the other guy
Closed Guard ... just do one thing:
1. Don't let the guy's hands touch me, no grips, nothing on my chest, etc.
** had to smile, bc just when i start getting cocky, thinking i know what i'm doing, i have a day like today, and i get smacked down to earth and know that i know nothing, and have a looong long way to go.
BB Chris ... I. Back Attack, Seatbelt Grip,
a. Underhook side controls guy's wrist, other than grabs mine wrist in Kimura grip
b. Fall to other side, Overhook side, hook his leg and lift up on underhook side and get the other leg ou
c. come up to Side Control w/ the rev Kimura grip, pass overhook hand in front of his face
d. Sit down for Armbarj
II. Same set up but Ezekiel Choke
a. shoot underhook hand in deep, and other hand goes in front of the neck
Work:
ESC -- Side and Mount
Closed Guard -- Elbow and Collar Tie to High Guard
My buddy BB Z -- the toughest guy at SO -- came today to train. He rolled with Brn Nick, the toughest guy at Legacy. It was Godzilla v Rodan. I didn't get a chance to watch too much because i was rolling, but i think Z had a slight edge.
Those guys are so tough not many want to roll with them. I'm glad i was able to bring them together so they can get some challenging rolls.
Only four of us -- Z, Nick and Blue One hand and me. I had to roll with Nick three times, Z four -- that's why i had a new record of 19 Taps!!!
Nick tip: Side Control ESC to Kesa -- move my LEGS away before i push on the chest. Create dead zone into which i push into. I was always just push, not moving my leg.
BB Chris ... Closed Guard, Double Sleeve Arm bar swing drill.
II. Double sleeve to Scissor Sweep.
III. Armbar into Scissor Sweep.
IV. Scissor Sweep to Triangle.
a. Knee over the top of his elbow and push out to get to Triangle.
BBs i rolled with: Chris, Gors, Z. Only three. Felt like a lot more. Didn't get to roll with Dean, Gerald or Jason.
Almost forgot -- that Brn had a Rollover Sweep from half guard -- stuff his arm like i'm going for kimura, reach over that arm to his belt, sit up and back down and roll over my shoulder for the sweep.
Work on: Side ESC and Mt Attacks, Passing and Arm Drag.
No Monster Nick. Others were relieved. I feel bad for Nick and BB Z at my school. No one wants to roll with them. I try to roll with them as much as possible but ... i don't give them much of a resistance as do others.
BB Ray -- nice armbar tip, as i was going for Armbar from side, LEAN forward, and put weight on, then scoop the arm in and either roll into armbar or Sit back down at that time.
Blue One hand -- nice Butterfly Pass -- right hand cross frames/blocks the right foot, as i Pass that way to the Left.
Finally got the Giggler Sweep to the right, off the Shotgun grips ... he posted on his head again, but i gave it a little more umph and i pulled on the sleeve as i got up.
BB Chris ... I. Closed Guard Pass, trapping wrist underneath
II. Side Control, Choke w my own gi
a. Cross face hand grabs my own gi, gets in front of his neck
b. Turns into Pipe choke, my other hand goes under my elbow and grabs gi
Sept is Passing Month. Just work on Passing.
Oct come back to Closed Guard.
Speaking of which ... Roger Closed Guard armbar ... two new details i noticed while watching the vid again.
1. if i turn the body, like Scissor Sweep position, then i automatically have his hand ACROSS my center line.
2. Cross collar grip hand -- that elbow comes down right over his arm and locks it down.
Brn Nik scaring everyone with his rough play. i think people are reluctantly rolling with him. Didn't get to roll with him today.
Purp Ira loves the lapel and wrapping it all round. he's also started doing more Wristlocks, came close on a couple and now my wrist is sore.
Forgot that Brn Wade loves the Baseball Choke, got me again on one but defended another.
One hand Blue -- don't let him Smash Pass my Half, then he's into Mount, then frame his hips, don't let him get High Mount ... his pattern is Kimura, pass over to Arm Triangle ... his end game ... and again he almost got me but time ran out. i should find escape or better yet not let it get so far.
Passing needs more work.
Turtle attack ... get into Tonon Turn quicker.
Closed Guard to High Guard. Kick under armpit. or Underhook thigh. Get the Perpendicular Angle.
BB Ray and his Closed Guard Lapel -- start with Brabo seq then if they defend, pass under the thigh.
* also, Knee up into a Kimura
** one more and i forgot.
BB Chris ... DLR Sweep stuff arm under leg but with a Kimura grip
II. Half Guard Sweep
a. with lapel, shovel torque and either knee tap or circle behind a la Telles.
BB Z -- Closed Guard ... same side collar grip (right hand) ... Omoplata attempt with left leg, underhook that side and thigh, swing other leg over his face for Choke.
BB Jason -- MOVE! ... need that internal voice in my head, otherwise i will just stay there on bottom catching my breath, and can't do that when i'm rolling with heavy, upper belts. Also, he said as you get better, it's not about just tapping people. It's more about keeping Top pressure and seeing how they will react and move and reacting to that, and that will open up other positions and submissions.
Rolling with BB instructor Chris -- poked myself in the eye. That's a first.
Play more Closed Guard, more passing, and then Lasso Guard, then Cross Guard, and Side Attacks.
Most high percentage -- got it three times today, without the advanced part at the end. Love this.
Rev John Wayne Sweep/Gigger from Half -- to the opposite side -- off the Shotgun two-on-one grip -- 2nd time they have posted their head on the mat to prevent my Sweep. I need to switch to Old Man/Hip Bump and Sweep them to the Backwards more and not the to the side.
BB Ray -- Closed Guard Lapel to the Under Thigh -- pass to underhook of the thigh, to Armbar or Omoplata Sweep, come up to Mount and Spin to Armbar. Pretty slick if you can get the Lapel passed over to the Underhooking hand.
Tap to a four stripe White, was very lazy with my Triangle defense.
BB Chris ... I. Sit up Cross Collar Guard
a. Collar Drag to Turtle to Shin to Shin and Turnover to Back
b. Collar Snapdown to both knees ...
BBs rollcall: Chris, Joel, Mike, Dean, Tobias, Luis, Jason, Z -- man, felt like there were more.
Passing / esp Butterfly
1. Brn Nick -- Hop over
2. Moriarity Ankle Trap, Knee push
Armbars from Side Control
1. KoB Far Side Armbar, a la Marcelo
2. Kimura armbar, top leg over
3. Giftwra (Brian P)
4. Leg swings around (Bruno Mal)
5. Overhook step over (scully)
6. vs Turning away / Bruchecha Near Underhook, Rolling Armbar
BB Tarc has been around lately. Attendance starting to fall. Big monster Brn Nick, as highest rank and toughest guy, running the show and dropping knowledge.
He was telling Purp Shane he needs to stop hesitating during his escapes; he pauses each step of the way to give top guy a chance to kill his escape. Make it one smooth motion.
Also, when framing, it should be no effort, just forearms.
Continue on with: denying Underhooks, look for timing escape.
Close G -- two on one, high guard, even Rev Kimura, Old Man Sweep.
Side Control top -- bruno step over, underhook step over (threaten pipe choke first).
BB Shark Mike was showing an offside / far side Knee Cut off the pinch knee, double lapel grips.
Watching Pritt really helped my defense ... just denying them all Underhooks really kept me safe. In order to armbar me or even Triangle me, they need to get an Underhook. Next step -- look on Escape timing.
Drilled Hop Pass but could not get in Live rolling, might need to got to leg trap var. against BBs.
1. Kob to Rev Kob to Kob to Windshield to Kob on the other side and repeat
2. Open Guard Passing / Leg Pummel
a. Shin to shin pressure, swivel off hook to Knee Cut with hands on knee and hip
3. Stand Up / left hand collar tie, right inside elbow control
a. lift up elbow control to get space, dive for the Single, High Crotch to Back Take and Take Down
b. or Single Leg finish
c. or sit down to dump over shoulder for Kata Guruma/Fireman
BB Vince -- Open Guard Passing
I. DLR Pass ... Floating var. of a Knee Cut
a. Back up a little and put non-Dlr knee on the mat, takes tension away from that leg, and stuff his leg between my legs
b. Square up and pinch that leg with both my knees, squat back / Double lapel grab or both hands on mat and Knee Slide into the DLR side for the Pass
** Tweak: if he turns in and gets Underhook, he can escape or create scramble / if the does that Step over into MOUNT.
II. Spider Guard Pass I
a. He's got double sleeve and feet on both biceps
b. Get double pants grips, put my right foot forward and press against under his thigh -- that takes tension away and allows me to get his foot off my bicep
c. stiff arm that leg with pants grip to the right, get it on the mat / staple shin on shin with my right foot
d. wiper with left foot and replace staple off right foot with left
e. Pass to the right
III. Spider Pass II
a. Double pants grip, step forward and lean/push to one side
b. Step over both his legs / Slide down into Pass.
Rolled with only BBs today, except Fredo. Vince, Gerald, Chris G, Mordy (who is the oldest at the academy; turns out i'm second oldest). Got Pipe Choked twice by different guys.
Rolling with Gerald, said i would go light because he's got injuries. And i did for about 15 seconds, when i was close to Passing, and I Passed and realized i was going too hard and was being a jerk and had to dial it down.
I respect all the BBs but i do not FEAR them. Not any more.
Drilling / before Class -- worked the Hop Pass on the dummy. Didn't get to drill the Bruno Side Armbar.
Brn Nick, Purp Ira, Purp Shane, Blue One hand and me.
Nick showed me his Butterfly Hop Pass ... need to drill One Shoulder Handstand, to get balance and weight right, where all the Shoulder weight is coming down on his belly.
a. jump opposite side as i'm facing
b. that side, post my hand on mat
c. other hand, under his thigh, jump up to Shoulder stand
d. come down on other side -- my knee tight against his HIP
e. with my other elbow, gather up his hip on other side, too.
II. var. Trap one Butterfly hook with two hands, then mini-hop
* Keep working on Closed Guard ... getting to Side and even to Back, but then getting stuck there. But progressing little by little.
Wow, learning curve on the Rugby Pass ... my head is down and it's a Big Invitation to Loop Choke me -- which i got caught a few times.
Also, Brn Nick just pushes my head away or he Headlocked Swept me twice. Is it not a Gi thing? Just no-gi?
Brn Wade got me with a Baseball Choke ... that's been awhile and he tried a Darce, which i rolled out of, but he got a different Darce. I got a KoB escape on him, twice, into a footlock position, which i couldn't do anything which.
vs One-hand Bluel -- can't believe i couldn't finish RNC from top on his back and having him flattened. His hands were in the way and i could not get under his chin. sheesh.
BB Ray -- sneaky pipe choke setup, quite elaborate -- from Side, gets under far armpit, to MOUNT, then rainbows that arm, gets under the collar grip, dismounts to Side, and moves to other Side of Side Control and finishes Choke from there.
BB Tarca -- just tight control from Closed Guard with the Cross Collar and same side Elbow under grip. Just throws armbar from there or the Triangle is there, too.
Ray got a sneaky Sickle/Tripod Sweep ... i was in his closed guard and was going for my usual Stand to Pass, controlled the left sleeve, stepped up on the left side ... he crossed grip and also got right side leg, then scissored his legs -- one on my hip and other underhook the back leg and swept. Nice.
Also, he helped tweak my Step Over Armbar from Side ... 1. near knee needs to be tight against the arm and armpit; 2. Step waaay over to the far armpit.
* if threatening pipe choke, need to go deep grip and maybe don't need need the grip -- go over the top.
Didn't get to practice any closed guard setups, even with the two blues that were there.
Lots of chock full of BBs, most i've seen ever. About 8 or 9. Tried to roll with as many as i could -- only got to about 3 bc others asked me to roll while i was waiting for a BB.
No techs, just Positional drilling.
Did better with Roger Armbar set up -- remembered 1. the Palm down, curl grip deep behind the head and the cross sleeve and the 2. foot on hip.
But didn't do good job kicking under armpit and High Guard before i can get the leg over the head for the finish. So i didn't get the finish.
Keep working it. along with Giftwrap Armbar. Need to go back to Triangle ESC, too. Saulo -- knee up same as the the arm inside, twist that side.
I. Sweep, Leite Torque Shovel
a. Torque, Shovel with foot (if he's hiding that leg, use my off foot to push it out and expose it for the outside leg to Torque) -- my tweak
b. Come up and get Underhook, come up to Dogfight
c. Gather up his far knee, tap or just push over
d. or Circle back and if he's hooking my foot, backstep, knee behind his foot to clear hook -- my tweak 2
II. Half Guard, he gets Underhook ... Overhook Triangle
a. Overhook, and get far gi grip
b. hip out and put foot on his hip
c. other foot out and over his head to lock in Triangle.
Blue Gunther keeps wanting to work Turtle ... and so i kept practicing the Tonon Turnover ... need to push his head down with my forearm, and walk around instead of just flopping down in front of him.
BB Vince also showed a nice Turtle attack ... hook near foot and also underhook other outside foot and stretch and flatten out his Turtle.
Closed Guard ... 1. Galvao Armdrag ... get grip to outside of his wrist, and foot on hip like Roger.
2. Roger ... foot on hip and he has Armbar and Arm drag to the Back.
3. Old Man Sweep ... need to time and get HIGH on his hip.
BB Gerald showed my Shark Mike's variation -- he armdrags 2on1 to SAME SIDE, then when opp PULLS back, then he DRAGS across the body ... the momentum is very hard to stop.
Tried to Prezel Pass on BB Gors ... failed miserably. Keep getting arm triangle wrapped and swept. I'm doing something wrong. Don't know why it works sometimes and not. Usually not vs higher belts.
a. playing Half Guard Knee Shield
... opp. brings inside knee up to Knee Cut
1. sit up and bring gi tail under his leg and pass it to underhook hand
2. come up to Dogfight
3. knee tap and push over sweep
if he hooks my leg, staple the leg and come up to the back
BB Vince showing Blue some Turtle options and i forgot to use my go to Tonon Turtle Turn to the Back.
Keep playing:
1. Roger armbar
2. Old man sweep
why? because based on same grips -- cross collar / cross sleeve and works in with my Rev Butterfly Sweep, too. Need to time the OMSweep better.
Worked on Bow and Arrow better since those tips from Brn Nick from Sunday, even though i forgot about the wrist twist and foot on hip pivot.
Could not work in any Overhook or Gift wrap Side Attack, and failed on one attempt at Step Over from Side.
Brn Nick ran mini-seminar on Back Attack ... esp the Bow and Arrow.
a. open gi with underhook hand, get deep choke grip
b. stay tight, outside foot on his hip to pivot, inside feet across his belly like Body Triangle
c. get pants grip
d. twist my choke wrist as i lean back
* to make it tighter I -- throw my outside leg over his shoulder
** make it tighter II -- throw leg behind his head
II. Triangle from Back
a. as i pivot, get outside leg over his shoulder and grab that ankle with the underhook hand
b. lock in triangle with inside foot
c. finish by pinching in my knees together
then Nick explained PASSING... must be done in LINEAR fashion.
1. Pass feet
2. Pass Knees
3. Pass Hips
* his Pressure-Hop Pass -- gather in Feet, knees, then Hop over to Side. And if he can get one foot, one side, he can pressure into the pass.
Gotta drill drill the Hop Pass.
*** ESC work the same way --- Heavy Side Control, must create room to get Head turn, shoulder, hips, knees, then feet.
Second Wave of Leg Lock attacks are here
a. first wave -- i tapped a lot, then i learned some defense and could hold off most
b. NOW the 2nd Wave are much better, bc of Danaher and C Jones ... and my defense has to level up if i'm going to hold them off.
Reminder -- Silverado: Top arm through / bottom arm behind near my belly to torque.
BB Joel ... Stand up
I. Armdrag to Back
a. lift and foot sweep
b. can't lift or too tall ... kick, fold his knee from behind, get him down to my level for RNC
II. Sit Up Guard Series
a. Break grips on knees
b. Collar Drag
c. Push into come up on Sweep, esp if he tries to break grip with two hands
** come up on both knees pull back for drag, face plant him into Turtle
Focus:
1. Closed Guard Overhook to Choke threat, grab sleeve and High Guard to Triangle.
2. Old Man Sweep with Cross Sleeve Grip
3. Cross Collar Cross Sleeve to High Guard and Roger Armbar
I. Kimura
1. Underhook Far arm up to shoulder, bring his elbow in, dig my elbow into his belly, make him turn into me and onto his side
2. Step over with my left foot over his head and lock his head in from N/S
3. Switch underhook so my left hand goes under and lock in Kimura on Far arm
4. My right knee pins his other arm's bicep
5. Finish
II. Option B -- Magic grip one hand gi wrap
a. From Kimura grip, pull out his gi tail, pass to my underhooking hand (right hand, palm up)
b. Other hand is free to choke -- if he gets flat, then go for PipeCutter
c. If he goes belly down, reach behind his head and in front to get Bow Arrow grip / and or release Magic grip and put in behind his head for more leverage.
For me only -- asked Vince about the BACK ESC he was showing from Tues.
1. Fight for control of top choking hand
2. Fall away, to the underhook side, trap his foot with my feet
3. When he pulls out his underhook hand, slide out to that side and come up to Side.
Focus:
Closed Guard -- Roy Dean Overhook to Triangle and Arm Drag. and Omoplata.
Roger Gracie -- armbar setup cross collar / cross sleeve to High Guard ... and the Old Man Sweep is right there, and the Ninja Hip Bump ...
Nine or 10 taps just to Brn Nick on the first flow warm up roll. He was just catching and releasing and going from the position.
BB Ray ... gave me tip on finishing the Step over Armbar from Side Control that i have been having so much trouble with.
a. Threaten the Breadcutter Choke, when he defends, get him on his side and Step over with the TOP leg first (that will prevent him from coming up, which i keep having to deal with)
BB Tarca ... he's back from injury and showed a sneaky sneaky armbar from Closed Guard.
a. cross collar grip and same side ELBOW grip on arm i'm attacking
b. get arm just a little across center line, get the same side Leg on his shoulder, then IN FRONT OF HIS FACE/NECK
c. switch from collar grip to wrist grip, pinch my knees together, bridge for finish.
Brn Wade ... man, he's always a couple of steps ahead of me. i'm always defending. he's got a good Butterfly Sweep, too.
II. Cross Choke set up to Armbar
a. When he defends, push his elbow across and pin it with my chest
b. S Mount to armbar
Holes in the game:
a. BB Z -- keeps Bolo-ing me / back to looking up counters
b. Closed Guard / same side grips ... Rhalan ...
c. Passing
d. Foot Sweeps ... get him to move and put weight on one foot, that's the foot i SWEEP
Braulio Cradle Pass ... Weave to collar grip / Cradle and backstep / into Knee Weave and Dope Mount or clear and Side Control on other side
Rolling with Coach ... slick pass of my Butterfly Guard ... clear one hook, trapped the other leg, then HOPPED to the opposite side. I expected him to keep going in the same direction.
Closed Guard -- want to dive deep into it. Fake Scissor, push my knee down over their elbow. If they don't post, remember to pull with my legs AND collar grip. They have to pay for not posting.
asked Brn Nick about Closed Guard -- 1. other guy's Head position (posture) will determine what i can do / 2. I have to create ANGLE. Can't attack straight on.
General, I need to get CONNECTED to him / supertight, esp when i have Side Guard.
Side Attack -- 1. Giftwrap armbar; 2. Triangle
Mount -- 1. crossface, padlock armbar -- remember pick up his head and put it on top of my thigh; 2. padlock Triangle
* Also, Nick was showing a Cross Choke from Mount. Need to remember that when i can't get the armbar or set up armbar with.
**w/ Right Hand Same Side Collar grip / Left Hand hand same side Sleeve grip
2:00 -- His left hand has to post on my chest / if not, i can pull with collar grip and Break Posture / So get good grip, my elbow on top and outside his elbow
2:15 -- ATTACK 1: Shrimp out to right, left hip on mat / my right knee COMES OVER his elbow (almost like Scissor Sweep), pushes his hand down, Lock in HIGH GUARD on right side, into Triangle.
**triangle detail: 2:50 -- leg around the world / cover up his shoulder
3:30 -- ATTACK 2: If he uses Right hand to push down on my knee / Shove his hand in with sleeve grip (left hand), lock up High Guard on Left side
4:35 -- ATTTACK 2a -- he has right hand on OUTSIDE of my knee... pull my leg out and High Guard
5:30 -- ATTACK 3 -- he STANDS ... hang HEAVY on the collar grip, keep his posture compromised / sleeve grip switches to UNDERHOOK his right leg ... shimmy up his shoulder, lock up HIGH GUARD on the right side
5:50 -- possible Armbar, if i swing my right leg over his face
6:00 -- if not / keep the grips and SWEEP him over into SPIDERWEB.
BB Chris ... Arm Triangle from Side Control
i. he frames against my neck, push it aside to other side of my head
ii. change base, get near knee against his hip, that same knee comes up on pseudo KoB as i ride it over to get far leg over to other side of Side ... key detail so I don't get caught back in Half
iii. Finish on other side, sprawl low, Rnc grip or reach my own elbow grip.
II. From Spiderweb -- Armbar Break fail to Triangle
a. Bottom leg weaves through the two hands
b. other leg goes off his head, reach behind his head and grab first ankle
c. Lock in Triangle
** might be hard to finish unless angle is right, but the Armbar is there, too.
Injury -- had Mount on Brn Liran, he tries to buck me off and his body comes back down on my foot. Can't move my big toe.
Got to roll with Coach Chris. Always a good day when that happens. And with BB Dean, who is same age (52) as me.
So, still sucking at Closed Guard. Keep having get bailed out by Half Guard.
Passing sucks, too. Trying Floating Passes. Keep forgetting to Wiper off the Hook. Needs lots of work and reps.
Tried Giftwrap Armbar on Brn Eduardo, couldn't quite get it. Didn't cross my feet. Keep at it.
recap:
1. Closed Guard / armdrag or high guard and Scissor setup to Triangle
2. Floating Pass
3. Giftwrap armbar
1. Control Elbow: His elbow INSIDE my hip / two on one grip (wrist and behind elbow) (2:00)
2. Control Head: Break posture with Collar Tie / Back of the head (2:33) ... ideally get his head over the elbow
3. get small angkle to get Top lock (aka Pitstop, High guard, Diamond etc) -- (2:40), (3:40)
4. Pivot, Hook arm and Underhook the leg (3:11) B. Quick -- Closed Guard Arm Drag options
1. Wrist and cup Arm and his hand under my armpit (1:30) / come up on my HAND ... if he pulls out, HIP SWEEP
2. 1:55 -- Arm Drag, take the BACK / 2:30
* His REACTION / 2:50 lifts his foot, Swing leg over for Arm Bar
3:10 Drives shoulder down into me, Same deal, swing leg over for Arm Bar.
3:35 ... if he presses in, swing into Back Take
Lots of peeps, lots of Browns, only one BB other than Chris.
BB Freddie Po Po ... leading us with Leg Drag Pass drill to Robot Legs onto other side.
BB Chris ... Brabo Choke from Half Guard
* felt bad for the all Whites, and first day Whites ... there's like 10 steps to this tech. Mayhaps teach it like a dance -- instructor at front and everybody follows each step of the way.
1. Near non-trapped knee close to guy's hip, trapped knee to the right to FLATTEN him out
2. Crossface, other hand opens his gi and pass it under his arm and to crossface hand
3. Crossface pressure as i switch base and go to Reverse Half and bring trapped knee up
4. As he pushes on that knee, underhook that arm, reach far up the mat
5. Come up in a kind of KoB style stance, left leg based far left, trapped knee up
6. Underhook hand comes in front of his face, and takes gi grip from Crossface hand
7. Other hand reaches behind for crease on gi for the Choke finish.
Okay, maybe only 7 steps, still though. All the lower belts around me struggled to get through the whole tech.
Latest Focus:
Side Attacks
I. Gift wrap Armbar (Brian P)
II. Grape Popper (Brian P)
III. Near side stepover Armbar (Scully and Milton)
Closed Guard
I. Pitstop / high guard entries
II. Flower Swp
III. Heisen
Brn Nick, the monster, has no set game. He sees what's there and takes the submission. That's why it's so hard to get anywhere with him. Plus he's got great balance on top and good escapes.
Think i rolled 4 times just with Brn Wade. He doesn't get to train much so he was trying to pack as much in as poss today. He kept trying D'arce and I rolled out it pretty well each time. Not completely, but 75% out.
Keep drilling -- Closed Guard, 93 to Old Man Sweep.
Rare to not tap. Need to roll with tougher, higher belts. Came close a couple times but got out somehow.
BB Chris ... I. Side Control Attack 1 -- Triangle
1. Kill near arm and have crossface and tuck near leg in
2. My other hand presses far arm into his belly so i can swing leg over it and grab it with my crossface hand
3. Roll forward into Triangle from Bottom, lock it in, adjust and finish.
II. Attack 2 -- Kimura grip Armbar
a. get K grip, and push him onto his side, make sure his elbow is tight against my chest so he can't turn back in
b. lean toward his feet, swing top leg over his head / lean toward his head, get bottom leg over his belly area
c. Armbar Break -- bottom hand underhooks his arm, grab my collar, push his ELBWOW into my armpit / my free hand posts on mat for balance as i lean toward his head to break grip.
BB Mike -- kept getting me in Overhook Butterfly Sweep. Gotta put that in my toolbox.
Close Guard Series
I. Collar Tie and Elbow to get to High Guard / a la Danaher / Gordon
II. 2on1 (wrist and elbow) to get to Side Guard
III. 93 Shotgun -- Old Man Hip Bump
a. Trigger -- soon as he pulls his arm back
b. Doesn't pull -- try Flower Sweep.
All taps to Brn Nick. Get squished, smashed by him here and by BB Z at home base. the two toughest guys i know. With Nick, he grabs a foot or a knee, it's over. And he was working the DDS straight jacket system on me. Need to get on that once i can get the back consistently.
Now that i can Pass, get to Side Control and maintain Side, need a Sub from there or go to Mount, and sub from there. Trying to work Scully's N/S to Rev Kesa to near Armbar, but i'm doing something wrong. Need to review.
But Nick got disgusted with me and showed me an easier Tech ... from N/S go to Rev Kesa, lock in his far arm with my elbow, lock in near side with my knee, bring his knees down close to me ... MOUNT and rainlock his arm into ARM TRIANGLE.
update: found the Milton Viera version:
**slick bc he tucks his own arm under his leg so the guy has no chance to link his arms.
Drill: entry to High Guard and 2on1 Side Guard to Armbar and Flower Sweep (teach me grapp).
BB Z -- i'm always happy to see him. But he's a monster, and i roll with him and i'm always left wondering, why am i always happy to see him? Look, when you can survive him, there's nothing worse left. You've survived the biggest, baddest dude there. it's mental toughness training.
He's always going to tap me, but each time it's going to take a little longer, a little more effort on his part.
Rolling w Brn Nick -- afterwards, all i could think about was the quote: "the light at the end of the tunnel is actually an oncoming freakin' TRAIN."
Drilling w Savage ... he showed me a 50/50 escape ... scoot and get my off-foot UNDER the 50/50 and come out or backstep.
Drilling w Blue One hand ... was trying the jump flower Takedown but he showed me a easier TD -- 1. Collar Drag and slide/sit down; 2. Capt Hook .. wait for the push back and post on his hip or chest and take him overhead.
Reminder: Hitch Hiker ESC ... roll AWAY from my arm.
** Closed Guard Attacks ... gordon?! and get into High Guar more. drill that.

b. 32:10 -- straighten leg back, bring back and trap one side leg, push that knee aside for the Pass
34:10 When i get elevated --- Pinch my legs together, then HIP SWITCH PASS
Starting more aggressive, even with Blue One Hand. Had Mount to Triangle, but didn't think fast enough to adjust the angle to lock it up before he stood up and hulked out of it.
Tried the Roger Bow and Arrow escape, fail -- bc i couldn't break the pants grip, but if i could, need t roll into the grip. Second time - just ducked under like i normally do.
Success -- Darce esc and KoB esc -- need to transition into footlock.
Brn Nick was showing a sneaky Slicer when they Z Guard Half, wrap up the top leg and if they don't tap, go up wrap up the head for Pass or tap.
II. Clock Choke var. -- Switch Grips and hop to other side
III. Turtle Turnover
a. reach over to far elbow / back ankle grab and tip over into Side Control
** C. Haueter's Side Control Position really opens up the near arm bar step over sub. Hands on either side of hips, my hips hunkered down over his shoulder -- 3/4 N/S.
Full notes of Haueter Top vid coming soon. there's about 20 or 30 techs in there.
Can't believe Brn Nick has only two stripes. he's a monster. he shows up, destroys everyone and leaves. And he keeps escaping my top Side by pushing on my armpits. I gotta learn that. i think Purp Ira does the same thing.
Armpit Push Side ESC.
Blue Spencer the Red from Steve's place in Noho ... very chill style. Med flow.
One handed Blue ... he's so strong. Cannot let him settle in top Half. He has gotten me in Kimura and Americanas from there, and almost did today, too. And he likes the Arm Triangle from there. Need to stop the CROSSFACE and get Kneeshield in. Don't get LAZY.
New guy there, Brn Dio ... and he tries to Wristlock me in the first 20 sec and i pulled back to defend and he catches my mangled, taped up fingers. sheesh.
Was a bit more aggressive bc i've got Haueter's Rules in my head.
1. Fight to get to the TOP. Stay on Top.
2. When on Bottom, have a Guard. They shall NOT Pass.
3. Don't forget Rule #1 ... easily forgotten due to the seductive and lazy nature of Guard.
BB Joel ... I. Tai Otoshi ... sweeping like Uchimata
a. Standard grips, Left foot steps forward and outside his right foot
b. Lean him toward the left, UNBALANCE HIM and get all his weight on his RIGHT FOOT
c. my Right foot swings to outside of his right leg and SWEEPS his leg like Uchimata (but on outside reap)
II. Tai Otoshi 2
a. Same as above except ... Left foot STEPS BACK, bringing his right foot forward, but make sure to UNBALANCE before sweeping the leg Jonny.
b. Go into Armbar finish

d . when in Mount / S Mount into Armbar
Just when i thought i was the merde (that's the fancy sh2#@$t), i rolled with BB Z and he brought me back down to Earth. All three taps were to him. Although i made tiny tiny progress ... got a Half Guard roll under sweep on him and also Passed his Guard.
Was being more aggressive today, heeding BB Vince's words and Hauteur's Golden Rules. Get on Top, Stay on Top etc.
Thinking about Takedowns:
1. Tai Otoshi (above)
2. Overhook Uchi
3. Knee down outside Seoi
4. Rev. Seoi

a. Swing free leg over his head, Kneebar
IV. He defends by Triangling his Legs
a. Gather both feet, go for straight footlock on off foot, to free the other foot
b. Weave over/under the other foot ... Kneebar.
Bonus Time:
1. BB Mike -- Worm-like tech .. DLR and pass gi under his leg ... stretch him out with the other foot ... that same foot hooks low on his ankle for the SWEEP
2. BB Vince ... Kimura grip w/ N/S ... can't finish bc he gets on his side ... hand that's on his wrist goes for Underhook his arm ... put my hip/butt on his belly to Flatten him to Side Control ... trap his other arm between my legs ... go back to KIMURA but from Side instead of N/S.
3. BB Steve ... Triangle Setup ... half Spider with foot on his bicep ... other foot KICKS out his knee ... that BREAKS HIS POSTURE ... can swing and lock up Triangle with the foot that was on his bicep.
Good talk/REMINDER from BB Vince -- KEEP MOVING and fight to GET TO TOP and STAY on TOP.
I really need to FOCUS on that ...especially with Higher belts / Purple and above and bigger guys.
** with lower belts, I can work Bottom and Sweeps.
Just what Hauteur says -- Golden Rule of BJJ #1. Be on Top, Stay on Top and Win on Top. #2 -- Win on Bottom, Have a Guard, and Tho Shall Not Pass the Jiu Jitsu Guard. (sweep to get to TOP.) #3 -- don't forget about rule number one due to the temptation to be a lazy jiu jitsu fighter and stay comfortable in the guard.
For such a small class (about 10 peeps), there were a lot of BBs, about half i think. Vince, Mike, Freddie, Mordecai.

b. Move up my left knee next to his ear, kill his elbow by getting in trapped up on my thigh and against my belly
c. Gather up his OTHER elbow and tuck my other leg crooked under it
d. if near arm is on top, go for that armbar, but if he hides that arm and so the FAR Arm his on top, Switch / Swivel to that arm bar

BB Vince helped me out with that Kimura to Kneebar from Half Guard bottom.
a. really need to get my Knee across to the far hip, get belly down.
Also, he was showing Blue belts a Half Guard Bottom Overhook, grab belt Butterfly Sweep, or just a Push sweep on Other Way bc you're trapping that side with Overhook.
Keenan's Half Sweep vs Heavy Crossface Pressure
Roger Pretzel Pass -- having trouble getting it against long-legged guys, keep pushing me away and i can't quite get the stack on them. prob need to get on my feet more and then step to the side for the angle.
Then there were four. Since BB Tarca got hurt, numbers are down.
But i got there early to drill with Savage Alan. Got 10 reps of Triangle -- getting angle and covering right side shoulder, i don't even need to squeeze.
Drilled also -- Kimura Hotdog Roll and DLR truck roll.
Brn Nick suggested King of Mat with just three of us, Blk Ray and me and of course he stayed on the whole time.
But he gave me a great combo tip -- Half Guard Kimura combo:
1. Got for regular Kimura from Half, he pulls back, push with the Knee shield knee to create space to make space to dig under his thigh and Roll to Kimura side into KNEE BAR, make sure to tuck ankle in against his hip.
2. If he presses back into to defend, then go back to Kimura and SWEEP to the right.
BB Chris ... I. Half Guard Butterfly Sweep

b. left hand on his elbow, push into him to create space on his legs
c. my left knee goes over back of his near shin as i pull with gi grip and turn him into Back Take.
Review:
1. Octopus
2. Roger Prezel Pass ... x 2 / Roger and Invis JJ guy.
Focus: calm down and get Side Control to Dope Mt, then Mt attack, Choke to Armbar. just calm down and focus on that.

X Guard Sweep w/ tech stand up
a. stretch him, than push on the thigh as i get up.
** Triangle reps 5 / 45
and even worked a little bit of Kesa esc.
Rolling with BB Gors, we started STanding up and realized my Stand Up game does not exist, and it if did it would SUCK! He foot swept me twice and maybe got a Double Leg and i pulled guard.
Then came Bleu Carlos -- and we started on our feet again and everyone watching. This was the closest to a competition i've come to, even though i've got 7 or 8 years experience on him but he's about 30 years younger and we weigh about the same.
And i'm thinking i'm ahead on points and then he gets Mount and I'm so disappointed that i don't properly defend the Americana and i've basically given up and i TAP. And it's a MENTAL thing.
So i have to work on my STAND UP and my MENTAL game.
I. CG Sweep, arm across, side guard sweep
a. Reach over grab lat / Rev. Scissor Sweep with the open knee
II. Armbar pulls out into Omo
III. Omoplata to toehold

Rolled with 3 of 5.
Work: Old man sweep n Overhook Butterfly Sweep.
also, got the KoB escape a couple of times but must REMEMBER to underhook the leg to come up instead of just laying there. sheesh.
And i got a great detail on Triangle from Brn Alan via Keenan ... when i'm pushing on his biceps with my left foot and he pushes back, I SLIDE my foot up toward his shoulder, let it SLIDE off and he Falls into the Triangle.
keep working Closed Guard high guard .. Triangle reps and Juji.
Fun stuff: worm guard, inamari roll and berimbolo.
II. Drill ... counter Torreado Pass with Lasso Spider.
There's a few lower belts who play above their colors. Have to be on my toes with them. Others just avoid them. I just can't do that. I don't have it in it.
Speaking of which Purp Mossad (not his real name) ... got me because i was being lazy inside his Closed Guard. Working the overhook game then when i stood up he went from one armbar to the other, which i was totally not expecting. lucky i tapped fast.
Triangle reps 5 / 29
and i do like Danaher Armbar from Guard, too. work on that next.

1. left hand cups his elbow, to get it inside my HIP, or across center line
2. Right hand gets collar tie / behind his head, for Head Control (ideally close and right over his elbow)
3. "Top lock" aka High Guard or Diamond
4. Left hand weaves in, overhooks the attacking arm, Right hand underhooks his thigh
5. Pivot, get leg over his head.
3 Main Problems from Bottom
1. Posture Problem
2. Stack Problem
3. Pulling Away Problem
A. Posture Problem
1. If he's on Knees -- I want his spine in 45 degrees, leaning in (not straight UP or completely leaning in against my chest)
2. Collar Tie and elbow to keep him at that IdEAL range, and get his elbow across center line
2a. Also lock guard higher up on his Back.
3. then turn into High Guard and final pivot into Juji
Ai. If the STANDS / Vertical Posture
1. Can't Juji from there
2. need to get him back down / Pivot Sweep into Knee 7:05
B. Stack Problem
a. get my feet pointing away from his BASE / hips away, hand in front of his Base foot, INVERT and turn him over onto his Back, into SpiderWeb.
Bi. Extreme STACK -- come out the Back Door, other side of him and turn him over
C. Pull Away Problem
a. Pivot, far leg tight against his face/ear/chin, then scrape against his face as i get it over to OTHER side.
b. and near foot his pressing down on his neck from other side
Eight taps to Brn Nick n he wasn’t going that hard. I asked about Side Control — he said Top, it’s not SC unless you’re turning his face/chin away, that means pressure n Shoulder of Justice. From Bottom— frame with both hands under the armpit n push.
Triangle drills — 3 reps / 24te
Review — nat mend mt Armbar
For fun — rewatch worm Guard ... Mario lo private w Keenan
"Ego no Ego." -- that's the t shirt, that's the goal. might never achieve it but that's what i'm striving for.
BB Chris ... Closed Guard Side Guard Series
I. Flower Sweep
a. Reach under n across to elbow control like a basic Armbar but get elbow across n into Side Guard
b. Reach over, grab under armpit while getting my legs over shoulder into High Guard control
c. Reach under grab outside knee gi
d. Open legs n rock or reverse shrimp for Flower Sweep
II. Choke
a. Can’t reach the pants grip, over hand comes in gets gi Choke grip
b. Other hand grabs my top ankle like triangle adjustment, pull both hand s for finish
III. Push into Sweep
a. Can’t get pants grip or choke grip, armpit grip comes in front of face n reaches for elbow
b. Other hand sweeps back to come up on my elbow to push into him to Sweep
c. Hold elbow to get leg under his elbow for S Mount, other knee comes top of his forehead
d. Into Armbar
BB Chris ... I. Lasso var. vs Combat Base
a. opposite side as Combat knee lassos then hooks under the Combat knee
b. Reverse Butterfly sweep.
II. Review / Half Guard Top, gi wrap over the wrist ... Americana
a. keep knee high near his head, tuck other leg in to prevent Lockdown and Leite foot scoop
BB Chris ... I. DLR Sweep w/ sleeve under the leg
* funny enough i just saw this and its from the Knees var. from O'Connor yesterday.
II. DLR if he breaks grip on right side
a. switch to cross sleeve and same side pants grip
b. non-Dlr foot goes under his armpit and pushes
c. Dlr leg straightens on the back of his calf to turn him and he puts knee on the mat
d. Leg goes from armpit to hook behind calf
e. switch from pants grip to belt grip
f. shrimp away and pull him to the BACK.
Drill update - Nicky Triangle 3 / 3 total / 997 to go.
Bonus: BB Vince's Open Closed Guard
a. lift knee to bait him to underhook it, then bring it down and trap his arm
b. lift up other side leg, push down on that side leg to open guard
c. knee slide up and staple, other knee wipers and i get crossface for pass.
** totally disgusted with myself for rookie move ... insisting and holding on to choke from top of closed guard as he was choking me. terrible defense. i had to tap to purp shane. i could of defended, could have sat back or stood up to pass. but nooooo. must do better next time.
Haven't rolled with Brn Nick in a few weeks, and this is what happens. he tapped me about 7 or 8 times during one roll. i think he was going easy on me. no joke.
no easy rolls ... three BBs, 2 brns, one-hand blue and me. One-hand guy always bulldozes his way to crossface my Half Guard. makes me life tough if i don't win that battle.
so BB Tarca using the Floating Pass, not sure if it's from Gordon or Vacha but it's a Floating 3/4 Mount, and Pressure and soon as i move he drops into Mount. the pressure really prevents from dropping into Half.
That inspired me to practice my Floating Pass, via Glover. love it. Float, pinch into Half Guard, swing hips one way, hip switch the other. Got it a couple of times.
damn Askren. bc of him, more people are trying that damn Bulldog Choke on me. more of a crank bc they don't quite do it properly yet.
arm drags
nicky triangle
floating pass
side control dope mt.
BB Chris ... vs Combat Base, Reverse DLR, hook the knee and Sweep.
II. Half Guard Top, gi wrap over wrist into Keylock
III. if he takes arm out of gi wrap ... Ezekiel Choke going under the gi wrap.
Thinking about:
* Color coded training ... training different things depending in belt color of my training partner. ie defend more vs Whites and Blues / Purps and above -- go to my A game.
Drill:
** Triangle ... nicky ryan two-on-one set up / very similar to my 93 grip game, adding the disappearing shoulder detail.
1. EXTENSION is a straight line of Force. ROTATION is a circular line of Force.
2. Counter Extension with Rotation.
3. Counter Rotation with Extension, then Rotation.
Side ESC 1:20
a. if Crossfaced - that TWISTS my spine
b. Extension with Hands, move feet away to Realign Spine to make Bridge effective
c. Bridge away, then turn into him, use near Knee in, if he stays on his Knees.
d. 2:10 If he goes KoB, then other leg comes in to recover
Defending Knee Cut 8:50
a. Frame/Extend on far shoulder, while still getting elbow down and blocking the Underhook, getting under his armpit
Closed Guard Attack 14:10
a. coming up to cross collar, TWISTING out the SLACK
b. leg over shoulder (High Guard)
2:30 Twisting to get SLACK out for Control
9:25 Fixed Point Concept - to use torque / replace with another fixed point as he defends
11:40 w/ Side ESC example -- extend him down to my belly, over my hip BEFORE i bridge. Extend, create separation/space by creating SLACK. Extend the Hip with Bridge, Rotate w/ Shoulder to create space to move back to get leg in to Extend legs to recover guard.
12:30 if he pops up to KoB -- put his knee over my hips
Big Picture ... a la Mendelsohn, i will work my way backwards from Submission from MOUNT and Back.
sub from Back / Mount
Side Control to Mount / Back
Pass Half Guard to Side Control
Pass Open Guard or get sucked into Half Guard
Pass Closed Guard or get to Open Guard
ok, the MOUNT
1. Armbar
2. Cross Choke
of course, there are other options, other subs from Mount, but i need to spend couple of years on JUST these two to Master them.
3 Main Setups to Armbar (all lead to S Mount and Spiderweb)
1. Danaher - Crossface to rachet
a. break detail: get forearm under his WRIST.
2. N. Mendelsohn (see previous post) - Threaten Cross Choke
3. Rodolfo - Padlock both elbows / arms
a. High Mount, both feet on top of his hips, pressing down with my hips on his elbows touch the mat above his shoulders
2:40 Threaten the Choke -- gets his Elbow away from his body
4:09 when elbow comes away, bring my Knee against his Head, his elbow is stuck against my thigh/hip
4:20 my other Leg wraps Under his other armpit, L bracket,
4:50 switch hands, my Top hand wraps under arm i'm attacking, reach for my Lap/Thigh - key detail, hold this position throughout tech, his Elbow tight against my belly
5:45 Keep tight, legs PINCHED against his head, so he can't bring Elbow down to Mat, and if he can move his head away, then he has space to also bring his Elbow to mat
7:15 Underhook his leg
8:00 Pass my leg over his head, BEFORE my butt hits the mat, that's the last step
13:09 He needs 3 things to ESCAPE, if he can't get his elbow to mat / 1. able to SCISSOR his legs, turn and come up;
13:30 2. his HEAD has to come up; 3. my BACK has to touch mat
14:00 To prevent those 3 Things: a. grab his knee / b. that elbow posts on mat to keep my back off mat; c. stomp down to keep his head down
16:08 Armbar break / Rnc def ... lean back towards his feet, straighten my leg on his head, that will pressure his arm, and when i see his palm, then PALM STRIKE his Elbow
16:40 Palm strike hand is between his other hand, hug his arm before his can link hands.
17:20 Grab his WRIST and Thumb / palm strike hand comes over top of my own hand, keep his hand on my chest, my elbows down, pinch knees, keep his Thumb UP, lean back down
17:40 No space between his hand and my chest / if he doesn't tap, bridge up slowly
18:45 Other Breaks / grabs his own wrist - WRISTLOCK Break / holds hands together (GABLE GRIP), palm push/strike on his Palm
20:10 Links hands together ... i switch hands, go under his WRIST with other hand, get my bicep under his wrist, grab my collar / LEAN back towards his Feet
