Black Vince - Half Pass, getting the ankle out. Go Reverse Sit, then come back and the foot should be easy to get out.
II. DLR Counter with Ninja Roll to Back.
a. Right foot forward, and DLR hooked ... Don't left him get Left Hand gi grip.
b. He stretches you, and almost down to mat, Post with left hand on the mat ...
c. Hook with right leg and Ninja Roll over right shoulder.
III. Same Ninja Roll from Half Guard Top.
** either normal or from the right side, but hook top leg.
IV. DLR Counter Footlock (he's seen the Roll), Scoop his ankle, sit back down for the Footlock.
** Hide my foot under his leg, so he can't footlock back.
Black Chris - review from Tues - Brabo Series (Choke, Choke w/ his arm, Armlock).
** detail: make a sleeve pocket with his gi folded over to get a good grip with second hand.
II. Mount Maintenance
1. Cross face with left hand under his head, grab under armpit on far side.
2. Right hand underhooks and keeps his arm above his head, helpless.
3. Grapevine legs or cross legs under him.
4. Pressure down on his stomach with my hips.
Contd. -- with Scissor Sweep. May try Saulo's variation with just the cross grip, knee in middle, scoot back for distance and gas pedal.
Or regular with Gas Pedal. Keep forgetting about it.
Man, nearly two weeks since my last training session. So what happened today?
Black Vince -- Kimura grip with head scoop control from Side, S-Mount and N/S to the Back into an Armbar.
*From Back: Top arm (right hand) controls his opposite wrist; underhook hand (left) grabs my wrist in Kimura grip. The only variation is the right hand his under his head for tight control.
a. if he tries to roll to the right, my left leg is across his belly to keep him down, or I can come up into S Mount.
b. if he turns to the left, take the Back, and if peels off my elbow, go into Armbar.
II. Back ESC - he has top gi grip ... grab elbow and sleeve, get his elbow on top my chin (no need to get it all the way out). Move to the left, left, then back to him to the right when the hooks are cleared.
III. Peel gi grip off -- stick thumb in on top and squeeze all his fingers together to peel off.
Black Chris -- DLR gi grip Sweep.
1. DLR hook, right foot on his thigh keeping distance.
2. Sit up, pass right gi tail from right to left under his legs.
3. Right hand grabs his collar and pulls him down.
4. Pass gi tail again from left to right, but on other side of his butt.
5. Left hand post behind me on the mat, come up scoop up his ankle with my left foot, very similar to the Tanquino Sweep.
II. Passing Half to Quarter, and Armbar option.
a. Sit back on his legs, get gi Tail for Brabo Choke, passing it from left to right.
b. If he defends, pull that arm across, pressure down with chest for Choke or lift my left leg and pull that arm against it for the Armlock.
Bonus: After Class -- i spied Purple Brian showing a couple of techs to other people.
I. Lockdown Sweep - get them up high and over your head with the Lockdown, then push on hips for the Sweep.
II. Side ESC - trap their legs with near arm, clothes line with the other hand against side of their head as I bridge for the Sweep.
Review: Belly Down Armbar
Remember to hop over.
Also, Saulo's ESC - smash their legs, knees down to the mat with my chest.
Everything I Know About the Scissor Sweep from Closed Guard ( v15.4)
Now that I'm coming back to focus on Closed Guard as a Purple, I've been seeing so many little gems of details and I want to get them down.
White Belt -- I first learned the Scissor. Grips -- Right hand (cross collar), Left hand (behind elbow or wrist). Shrimp out and get leg across belly or upright against his shoulder. Pull him to get him light then sweep.
Getting the grips was easy, but getting him forward to make him light to execute the sweep was the hardest part. That's when I came up with ...
The Falling Scissor.
a. On knees, at the beginning of a roll, I'd get my grips.
b. I would push and if they fell, then I'm on top. If they push back, I fall backwards like I'm Pulling Guard, bringing him with me.
c. As he's coming forward, his body is light and I execute the Scissor.
I've had the most success with this version of the Scissor.
Fast Forward to now and Purple Belt era, and I'm revisiting the Scissor as I look again at the Closed Guard.
Judo Dr. Rhadi -- main takeaway: Everything is done a certain way, certain order. The same every time. Grips -- Lapel, Feed, Sleeve. Lapel, Feed, Sleeve.
* Get on side and leg across belly.
** If he lifts leg to defend, GAS PEDAL. (Push on his thigh/leg).
Andreh variation -- leg position and trigger.
* Right leg - upright, leg on hip and knee against his shoulder.
** Trigger: wait, wait. He will move and try something. As soon as he lifts his hips up -- that's the TRIGGER. He's light, so use my right under his armpit for the Sweep.
Saulo variation (Revolution Series 2) -- knee up like Andreh, and just cross sleeve grip. He keeps scooting back to create distance and stretch him out. Then Gas Pedal his knee out from under him as he uses up leg for the sweep.
Last one. Dinklage from Precision MMA - swings back other way then comes back for the chop; also creates angle to make him light.
Black Vince - Lasso Spider. Get on my HIPS. HIPS. HIPS.
And a simple sweep - Lasso to DRL, then DLR hook on hip, hand on ankle, other leg below his other ankle and push him down.
Same setup to Triangle. Lasso hand, let go and grab behind head, and shoot legs through. The Lasso side arm should be the inside arm caught in my legs.
Black Chris - Side Control Spin Armbar.
1. Belt and collar grips, hop up to KoB.
2. He pushes on my knee, underhook that arm, trap it and spin.
3. Knee on other side of his attacked arm, grab his pants leg and lean back for finish.
Armbar ESC where he stuffs my leg between his ... Counter with Kneebar.
After Class Bonus: Vince was showing White Mel a couple of things and I was uke.
Closed Guard -- Right hand cross sleeve grip, left hand behind the head collar grip. Shrimp left and arm drag, getting arm across center line ... as he comes back to square up, then PULL and sweep him like a Flower Sweep.
Gotta work that into my game.
And another thing -- my Side Control SUCKS. And Side Control ESC sucks a little less than top. But I guess I have to come around to that later. Working on Guard at the moment.
Brown Arman led the class and started with lots of drills, drills ... then a couple of techs.
Tech 1 - guy gets knee up, Lasso other side and get under that knee and get top arm across and sweep.
Tech 2 - armbar if he stands to defend.
Tech 3 - tech stand up.
Focus - Guard, Closed ... Scissor Sweep (Rhadi) -- the Gas Pedal. Also, Armdrag and Xande Sweep and Crossbow Open Guard.
Deep Half Counter - step over. Blue Morgan was killing me with his Deep Half. Back to the drawing board. Never did really figure out a good counter.
And got dumped on my neck twice by accident -- once by Morgan during a Spider Guard start; he just picked my up and dumped me; second time, White Belt went to Deep Half really quickly and spun me on my neck. It's already pretty sore.
Lastly, my Spider Guard and DLR suck. Not too worried about it since I haven't spent any time on them. Just stating facts.
And not proud of it but Brown Izzy made me tap to his Side Control Pressure, not even Kob. Just had the cross face and pulling up as he laid on my ribs/chest. Damn.
