17.29. Sunday Confession 4051

Taps: 4. Total: 4951.

First roll with Random 3 Stripe White I've never seen before. He shut down most of my stuff, thought maybe must be a wrestler and he could of tapped me but was nice enough not to, which was not expected.

From now on, i will treat everyone like a Purple Belt, til i know for sure i can relax.

Predictable pattern in majority of my rolls: I will end up in Half Guard and they will try Knee Cut, and it's a race to see if they can Pass or I can work my Leite Half ... getting Underhook, hooking the leg and hiding my bottom arm before they can work their Knee Cut.

Work on: hip bump sweep with cross collar -- put in 1000x drill machine. Side esc - popcorn shrimp and ghost spin, adem pass and Guard recovery drills, grips for berimbolo.

17.28 Saturday Breakie Club 4047

Taps: 3. Total: 4047. weight in 144-148 range.

Basics with BB Joel.

Double Leg entry. Clinch to Back. Back to Takedown 1 - pull both ankles; 2 - kick in fold behind his knee.

Side ESC Series ... I. Long Bridge
II. Popcorn Bridge ... near Underhook to Ghost Spin: bridge again to get space to Spin; frame against his shoulder so he can't follow.
III. Near Underhook to Roll: get parallel, then bridge with near underhook.

Blue Asian Paul kept basing on my Rev Butterfly Sweep attempts, but just realized there is a Triangle there when he puts his hand on the mat.

Berimbolo ... Blue Spider David: since getting better at inverting, I'm 30% there to getting a Berimbolo, don't even have the grips right but fumbling my way to the Back or top.

Getting to Blue Guard ... need to get to next step: Omo or Triangle?

High Guard Triangle ... getting better, but couldn't finish Blue Shane. He said he had his knees under my butt. Need to scoot away or even bridge up and to the side. Burned out my legs.

Octopus Half ... getting the the Back. Keep practicing.

Open Guard? ... DLR and RDLR to some inverts.

Passing? Side ESC. Lots to work on.

17.27 Thur AM Club 4044

Taps: 4. Total: 4044.

weight: last night 148.5, this morning 146.5, after training 144.5.

BB Vince ... Side Control Attacks ... another Trinity Chain: Kimura-Straight Armlock-Americana.

I. from Side Control: Kimura - he straights arm ... Straight Armlock; he turns arm up, switch grips: my right hand goes under my other elbow, grips his wrist, my right grips my left wrist.
*Keep my left elbow on mat and against side of his head; keep my chest heavy on his chest.

II. from Kesa Side ... underhook far arm and bait him.
 a. When he brings that hand in front of my face to frame, then step over his head, stay heavy on his face, grab the Americana.
var. -- he he doesn't tap, come up to KoB for more leverage and definitely get the tap.

III. from Side, Underhook far arm, pull it towards me, dig my elbow on his chest to get him on his side (BB Mike had a vicious, sick Elbow in Belly)
 a. step left leg over his face, get my left hand under my right elbow to make the Grib Switch to Kimura.
 b. both knees tight, keep right knee down, can bring left knee up tight against him.

side help: asked Brn Arman how to deal with Brn Chris' Far Side Knee Cut, which he kills my Half and Reverse DLR like butter. He said to hold to his ankle like DLR, and i need to switch guards. The advice helped, and i held off his pass a bit longer than usual but he still went for the Hopping/Jumping Far Side Knee Cut that he loves and usually crushes my knees but this time, his knee landed on the mat and he need to stop for a quick break.

And another episode of freakin' spazzy White Belts ... going to subs, wristlocks, spazzy armlocks, chokes from inside Guard ... although a Three/four stripe White did tap me with a Loop Choke of some kind. I was curious to see if he could and he did. Thought i'd be more upset about it than i am. very philosophical these days about tapping to lower belts.

Brn Sky from Simi was there. Forgot that he and BB Kenny have a nasty Omoplata that always fall slowly into. He gets into it from the Overhook but i can't remember how Kenny does it.

Half Passes ... Redzo Footwork and Lo Wiper Half Pass.
Guard Recovery and Switching to other Guards ... DLR to X.

17.26 Tue AM 4040

Taps: 3. Total: 4040.

some more stats: 144 lb, fat 12.4%.

BB Vince ... Butterfly Guard Basics.
**Make sure to get in TIGHT and CLOSE, scoot in as close as I can.
 I. Double Unders, and lift him straight back.
  a. if he frames or re-pummels, sweep to that side.

II. Too Heavy or Good base and can't lift him back ...
  a. Scoot to the side, ie to right and keep underhook on that side and Hook on that side.
  b. Left hand bases behind me; get left leg tucked under my other leg, then scoot back in Tight again.
  c. Left hand scoops his right elbow and SWEEP.

next hour: Half Guard Basics - Top and Pass.

I. Knee Cut variation, actually a Knee on Belly in Half.
 a. right hand over top of his frame, same side collar grip.
 b. left hand controls his bottom as usual.
 c. knee in center, heavy KoB and very uncomfortable he has to move.
   i. moves to the left, Knee Cut
   ii. to the right, Mount.

II. he moves from side to center, almost RDLR or you can force it by moving to right two steps.
 a. either way, he's got your right leg between his legs and he's on his back and his knees pointing straight up.
 b. Right hand has same collar grip, left hand pushes his knees over to the right and gets Right Elbow on the Inside to smash his knees down to the mat on the right.
 c. Kick back right leg to free it and get the Pass.
 d. If leg still trapped, OFF Side Knee Slide with left leg cutting down over his top thigh for the Pass.

Work: S Mount ESC and Kob Escapes and Wiper Passes and ... this is my new favorite 1/2 Pass ... Adem Redzo Pass:

17.25 Sunday Confessions 4037

Taps: 2. Total: 4037.

BB Tarca showed a simple DLR sweep: hook low with non-DLR foot and take out that leg and he falls over.

Random Purp plays same Half Guard as me (based on Leite's game) and he gets the Underhook and scoops with outside foot, etc. Good detail: he gets deep Underhook and hugs around the waist. I thought high Underhook, but I'll have to play around with it.

My Guard Sucks! I didn't play it at all. Played top and passing. Need to practice Guard more.

Roll call: 1 BB, 4 Brn, 3 Purp, 1 Blue.

Work on: Half Passing TT style. Closed Guard. Side ESC.

Saturday, March 11, 2017

17.24 Saturday Breakie Club 4035

Taps: 2. Total: 4035.

BB Chris ... X Guard to Deep Half to Lapel Sweep
1. If he comes down and tries to hug my head or even pushes top leg through, go to a Deep Half: my right hand underhooking his leg, switches to hugging the other trapped leg with both hands.
2. Hide left hand under his leg, pull out his far Lapel, grip with both hands: left hand lower and right higher up.
3. Turn into him for the sweep, come up in Side Control

II. Continuation into N/S Choke.
1. As I come into Side, wrap my left hand on his head as choking hand, my right hand grips his wrist gi and pushes away from me.
2. Make fist with choking hand, make adjustments to get under his chin and get my lat against side of his head.
3. Twist my fist away from me.

17.23 Thur Am 4033

Taps: 6. Total: 4033.

BB Chris ... basic warm-ups with Mount Swim in / Mount Arm bar
 I. Mount to S Mount Arm bar.

BB Vince ... Triangle ESC Counter (to my favorite escape).
 1. Gets my knee down on the mat, then ADJUST: release leg, hold on to my ankle and released leg goes on his hip and brings him back to center, and my leg off the mat.

Tapped to Blue Joey and Blue Angelo ... Angelo got my arm in a scramble and Joey got a Bow and Arrow Choke.

Work on: Closed Guard Gi wrap Armbar; Kesa ESC; X Pass; X Guard; Side ESC (popcorn shrimp).

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

17.22 Tue AM 4027

Taps: 6. Total: 4027.

BB Chris ... Reverse DLR to Waiter Sweep.
 1. Reverse DLR pinch his leg with both knees, knees pointed up.
 2. Left hand has pants grip on Dlr leg; right hand has near collar grip to pull him down or forward.
 3. When he steps forward with his non-Dlr foot, release collar grip and underhook that leg.
 4. Release my outside leg and come inside the Dlr, so both legs are hooked into the Dlr, rock forward for the Waiter Sweep.
 5. Lift the hook to raise his leg on that Waiter sweep side, come into and grab cross collar to Pass with over/under.

Reverse DLR to low Single.
 1. He postures up and can't get the collar grip.
 2. Sit up, wrap his leg with the left hand as i L hook the leg with my right foot.
 3. My head on the inside, push into him with my right hand and my forehead and he FALLS DOWN.

Just realized there were 5 BBs on the mat: Chris, Vince, Mike, Morecai and Kenny.

I have a bad habit of being tired and lazy and letting the lower belts get dangerous grips and positions and THEN trying to get out. Must BREAK that habit.

During drills, just the Standing up in Guard was quite a workout. Burned my thighs. I should put it into my routine. 20x/day.

Work on: Closed Guard ... gi wrap and High Guard and Overhook Omoplata/Triangle. Triangle setups.
  Side ESC ... popcorn shrimp.
  X Guard and DLR.

17.21 Sunday Confession 4021

Taps: 3. Total 4021.

Big Blue drilled the Schnreiner N/S choke to Paper Cutter to Step Over Armbar. I have to go watch the vid.

BB Tarca showed Armbar Break Alternative Choke ... top left hand under his arm, right hand underhooking his leg; switch hands: right hand grabs his arm, left hand gets choke grip on his collar; top left leg comes off his head and lets him come up for more leverage on the choke.

More Closed Guard (Drac bump n collar scissor Triangle), Half Guard, Side Esc (911) and Passing.

Saturday, March 4, 2017

17.20 Sat Breakie 4038: Color Change: BROWN

Taps: 2. Total: 4038.

BB Chris ... Straight Footlock ESC.
 1. If he's got my right foot ... cross collar grip with my left hand, keep him close ... apply BOOT to push my foot in and curl my toes toward me.
 2. Scoot out to the right, push down on his outside foot and sit on top and over it.
 3. Left leg loops over and in between him and my left hip, and come up into KoB.

Straight Footlock to the Pass
 1. If he counters and gets too close and i can't finish the footlock (ie i have his right foot under my left armpit) ... right hand controls his outside leg so if can't come up.
 2. Left hand goes under the footlock leg and grabs far opposite collar, like in over/under Pass and come up.

Wow. Skipped two stripes and straight to Brown. Thought I had a couple more years to sandbag at Purple. 6 1/4 years to Brown.

Some luck with Octopus Half Sweeps. Closed Guard needs more work. Making incremental progress on Side ESC, along with X Guard.
