Taps: 3. Total: 481.
Sunday class. Holy crap! I showed up a few minutes late and there were about 18 guys already there. Some visiting judo guys and some guys from another school. All invited by Black Joel. There was a brown and black judo guy.
Tech. Open Guard Sickle Sweep and a Omoplata "sushi" roll from the same set up.
Just been thinking about how there's a ton of blue belts now. When I was a White, there were about six or seven Blues, and now there are about 15 or 16, and I hardly know any Whites anymore, except a couple who are going to be Blue soon.
That means, all those Blues I used to train with are Purple, and when I get to Purple, they will be about six or seven Browns to train with and get my assed kicked all over again.
Right now, there's three or four Browns, and all except one are recent Browns.
Sheesh, hope everyone keeps training.
Focus -- Mount Escape and Closed Guard.

Taps 478
Taps: 2. Total: 478.
Brown Vince ran class. Tech. was just basic, fundamental -- Side Maintenance.
1. Basic knees flared out in a V, one by his hip, the other by his shoulder, arms spread out, butt down to put chest to chest pressure.
2. If his near arm pushes on my hip, go to Kesa Gatame, then swing that leg over his head, trapping his arm, then back again to beginning position.
Tech. 2 - If he gets his far arm over my shoulder (right shoulder), other side of my head.
1. Trap that arm by grabbing my own gi with my right hand.
2. Go Knee on Belly with my right knee, yank his whole body up and toward me.
3. Release my gi grip, get gable grip, just below his elbow, pull toward my chest as I hip into his arm for the sub.
Tech 3 - If his far arm goes inside my head (over my left shoulder).
1. Trap that arm with my left hand, as I reach across and grab near his stomach; my right hand goes on his near hip.
2. Swing my left leg over his head, and get it near his elbow of his trapped arm; Swivel and sit back down for the armbar.
3. Key: my left hand controls and holds his hand at the elbow, and as I sit back my right hand controls at the wrist to back sure his thumb is facing up.

Taps 476
Taps: 3. Total: 476.
Tech. 1 - Sit up Guard Pass.
1. With right foot in middle, right hand grips behind, neck collar; left hand on his left knee.
2. Pressure forward with my right leg, then lift out to outside his hip as I backstep with left leg, and come down in Side Control for the pass.
Tech. 2 - Choke when he shoots in.
1. Thinking about it, this is the same Basic Collar Choke from the Back, except I do it from top of facing Turtle or when he shoots in.
2. Left hand gets underhook and feeds near collar to my right hand, which is under his neck, get deep first grip, thumb out, palm up.
3. Left hand grabs far collar and pulls down as right hand goes up for the finish.
Misc -- Rolling with Black Chris (and I always roll with him when I get a chance. How often do you get to roll with a Black Belt?), I figured out a little, little bit of his game. He plays sit up or on his back then the sweeps and gets on top. From top, he uses pressure and weight to wear you out, then finishes with a sub because a sub is much easier to finish when the guy is tired from all that weight and pressure.
A little progress against Deep Half. Against Purple Phil, he tried DH and I kept low and somehow I ended up in Mount and worked the Roger choke and he Upa'd and rolled me (and thinking back, I forgot to keep my forehead on the mat above him). So I ended up in Guard but realized a second too late that I still had the grips and I could still choke him from Guard. And I tried but that second hesitation loosened my grips a bit, so no go.

Taps 473
Taps: 1. Total: 473.
Man, taking me a long time to get to 10k taps. Long warm-ups and drills, less rolling.
Tech. 1 - basic choke from guard.
Tech 2 - basic standing pass, single under.
Misc. -- saw Black Chris roll with Purple George and he used a Half Pass, that was Reverse and very similar to what I like to use, but his was a slight variation, where his right hand goes between the legs and holds under the thigh and prevents a tight lock and helps get his trapped leg out, which he backsteps out of.
Tried to use it against him when I rolled with him next. No luck. But I was able to pull off Vince's Tail Sweep. Must review, along with the Machado Half Pass, Passing Concepts and Cyborg Pass. and maybe London Sweep, too, while I'm on the Half Guard kick.

Taps 472
Taps: 1. Total: 472.
Tech. -- X Guard series. X guard to the back.
1. He pulls his sleeve out, pull his chest collar down as i stretch him and make him put his hands on the mat.
2. Get his near leg over my head, grab his belt and push out with my legs and get to his back.
Tech. Vince Half Guard Pass, get knee out and on mat, get other knee and flatten out and into mount.
Misc. -- still haven't figured out the Deep Half counter puzzle, but i didn't encounter it today.
I was able to use some Deep Half from Glover's DVD, especially Mount Bottom and Half Guard. From Mount, I've been thinking about the Elbow Escape and he will go to S Mount, that should give me room to shoot my arm through and wrap his leg and get to Deep Half and it worked.
From Half, I need to hip out, move knees to other side to get room to get arm through and into Deep.
Focus: Guard Passing.
Scull's Bjj concepts. Need to view again. It's long but would have helped in class today against Long Legs Pete.
Also, need to re-watch Cyborg's vid., too.
Have been slacking on my Drills at home, too. Need to get back on it. Need a Sarah Palin, drill baby drill t shirt!!

Taps 471
Taps: 3. Total: 471.
Tech. 1 - X Guard Sweep.
1. Open guard set up, and he steps to my right, and I hook that leg with my right hand, high under his knee.
2. Control his other sleeve, pull it into my right, and set up my X, right leg on his hip, knee under his crotch; other leg lower down on his leg.
3. Stretch him out and off-balance him as pull up with on his left leg and since I control his sleeve, he should roll over his shoulder, giving me the sweep, and I come up on KoB.
Tech. 2 - Same set up but he maintains balance when I stretch him, so go for Armbar.
Good class, and made me think that in the entire time I've been training at BJJ Club (which is over a year and a half), I've only had 3 BAD classes. And I think most of those bad classes were my fault. My ego and my unrealistic expectations... leading to injury or getting tapped by lower belt.
Even when I got a $60 parking ticket in front of the academy, I didn't even consider that a bad day of training.
Along those lines, I really really want to stay a Blue belt as long as possible. I have so much to work on. Like maybe 4 or 5 years. I want to go back to the beginning and start with Closed Guard, Passing Guard.

Taps 468
Taps: 3. Total: 468.
Tech. - continuing on with the Takedowns. Simple but good.
1. Standard grip, then move in and get right underhook and move to his side.
2. My head on his chest, pushes and off-balances him, which makes his near leg light, which I grab his pant leg and lift.
3. My right leg is behind his ankle of is other leg, stopping him and circle back for the takedown.
Tech. 2 - Double Leg counter.
1. He shoots in but has his head on the outside ( a no-no), and I go for the guillotine with my right hand.
2. He defends and pulls that arm, but I switch and shoot in with my left hand DEEP, and go for a RNC from top.
Tech. 3 - Single Leg counter.
1. He shoots in and grabs my right leg, I grab the top of his collar at top of his neck and push down on his neck.
2. I turn my right knee and put it on the mat, pull it out and come on top of his turtle.
Rolling with Black Chris, I learned: 1. He's two steps, probably a lot more than that, ahead of me; 2. I can't rest when he's on top because he's so heavy, I almost tapped from the weight distribution.
Focus:
Side Control Bottom -- 1. Prevent cross face; 2. Bridge.
Half Guard Bottom - Machado sweep; and hip out and sweep the other way (which is very similar to a Closed Guard sweep where i have his hand across my centerline and I take him the other way.)
Brown Chris says when in doubt hip out, then hip out one more time.

Taps 465 and Inches of Progress
Taps: 1. Total: 465.
Tech. 1 - Takedown.
1. Circle in and up and overhook with the left hand.
2. Move to the right as i get underhook on that side and get like you're in humping his hip positon.
3. Move right leg in front and hip under his hip and toss him.
Brown Vince tips:
Side Control Bottom -- Prevent the 3 hooks: 1. cross face; 2. far side under hook; 3. near knee against my near armpit.
Closed Guard - practice the grips: 1. Double sleeve and both feet on hips; 2. Sleeve and Cross collar for Scissor Sweep or Armbar; 3. Sleeve and knee for Flower Sweep or Armbar.
Inches of progress.
Got that Half Guard/Half Butterfly Sweep that Purple Carlos showed me. It's very similar to this Machado Half Sweep. Except Carlos didn't show me the label grip.
And I got a Harpoon Side Escape. Both against the same White Belt who tapped me at the end.

464 Taps
Taps: 6. Total: 464.
No taps last class, but not in a good way. Mostly positional drills.
Today, Carlos Purple taught me a cool, simple half butterfly, half guard sweep. Key: getting the hook in and trapping the other arm.
Still feel lost and floundering around.
