Taps: 0. Total: 577.
Pre-Class: Brown Vince taught a nice Side Control Series, Top.
** Just hanging, chillin out in Kesa, hip to hip (like Saulo says), and if he turns in, step over, and move to other side to counter his escape attempts.
Class: Purple Steve taught 2 Open Guard techs.
1. Spider Sweep - one leg on bicep, the other leg kicks out his base.
2. Rev. DLR sweep - a. off the same Spider Guard set up, switch left hand grip and grab his lead right ankle.
b. Left leg on his hip, right leg hooks behind his left leg, right hand still has sleeve grip.
c. Push on his hip for the sweep.
Confession: I'm not keen on Spider Guard -- call me a wuss but it's a bit too tough on the fingers, holding on to that grip.
During the drills, I did figure out to focus on the grips, fight the Spider grips first BEFORE trying to pass.
Rolling
* Getting the Kimura sweep from Bottom of Side Control a lot, especially setting it up with Elbow/Armpit push sweep.
** Finally, starting to put what I know into practice. Seeing positions/situations and recognizing that I know a transition from there, instead of accepting the crappy situation, i.e. I was kinda in a scramble, lost top position and ended up in a bottom of half guard and I usually just lay down and accept half or even full guard, but I realized if I push/stretch his arm, and go over his shoulder and grab his lat, then shrimp out, I could roll him and take his back. (Of course, as I thought of all these the Window of Opportunity closes).
I can't think but must just react.
